What are you playing?

Oh nice! I had a circa 2005 or so Kia Forte that we drove into the ground and a 2011 Kia Sorento that we drove for ten years and then sold for 4K when I got promoted to DC and was fortunate enough to get assigned a take home Tahoe, which given the current state of things is worth it’s literal weight in gold.

Funnily enough, the wife’s Mercedes died around the same time (same boat with it costing more to repair than it was worth plus it looked like wet dirty ass. The woman has never seen a pothole that she hasn’t actively swerved into) and we were looking at the Telluride, but decided we didn’t need two full size SUVs and got her a Subaru Legacy lol.

imho you can’t go wrong with the Kia - they’re great cars, cheap to repair when the usual wear and tear crops up, and very cost / benefit efficient

I picked this up because I couldn’t resist. I haven’t gotten through the tutorial case yet but I can already tell this is going to be one to watch. I really hope it turns out to be as special as it seems like it will. You can get it for $15 on Fanatical for the next few days:

Twelve Minutes. Free with a Netflix subscription. An interactive thriller about a man trapped in a time loop. All-star voice acting cast.

I’m looking for recommendations for a good narrative/explorative FPS on PS5 (preferably) or PS4. I just finished Metroid Prime Remastered and it reminded me that FPS as a vehicle for exploration or storytelling is great. I had flashbacks to enjoying the Bioshock games. I like shooters in general and have a blast with my brothers playing CoD, but I’m not looking for a game that lives on its multiplayer unless it has something good attached to it that fits my requirement. Any recommendations?

I’ve been playing Wildfrost a ton. Very cool deckbuilding roguelite that looks a lot like the path-based ones you’ve seen before on the surface, until you get into the first battle and learn that the lane-based gameplay makes it much, much more like a tactics game. Each unit has a turn counter that tells you when it’ll attack, and repositioning your units to attack the desired enemies or take damage to the right units is a necessity.

The game got some negative reviews off the bat because of its difficulty. I think people saw the cutesy art style and assumed it would be a “cozy” game. It’s hard, no doubt–I’ve made 41 runs and have 41 losses. Only 4 or 5 of those have ended on the final boss. But all of the other ones ended because of some dumb mistake I made in battle. The devs have talked about rebalancing the game in an update to make it more accessible to new players. I hope they keep the original difficulty as an option, because I love the challenge.

This may be a dumb question, but have you played the original Half-Life? Black Mesa is on sale for $5 right now and I remember quite well being just blown away by the sense of place the original managed to evoke. Looking forward to revisiting it through Black Mesa sometime in the not too distant future.

As for what I’m playing: oh god so much Factorio.

I did, but it has been a while. I’m also not that interested in PC gaming at the moment.

Also, moot point; Zelda is out on Friday.

My kids saw the pre-order pre-downloaded on the Switch and got VERY excited until I explained the point was just to avoid slow downloads on Friday.

I think the constant “X days until Zelda” news pop-up on my Switch are Nintendo’s way to farm the FOMO and Hype about the games and pressure them poor parents to get the game asap to shut up their kids?

I don’t play Zelda games ( I despise them in fact) but I think this particularly crazy marketing drive by Nintendo seems a bit unusual…is the game maybe a dud (as far as the franchise itself is concerned) and they try to get in front of the review embargo to milk the crap out of pre-order sales or what?

I don’t hugely dislike Zelda games, but I tend not to enjoy them, and I am also pretty tired of the pop-up notifications on Switch about the game.

I agree it feels a bit intense from Nintendo, and you may be right about the reason for it. I was thinking it was a result of the game somehow costing a LOT to develop and they want to be sure they recoup out of the gate. Although Zelda is also one of only a few real tentpole properties for Nintendo systems (along with Mario and maybe FE), so they may see it as essential to Switch’s continued success for the new Zelda to be a big seller.

I also see I called it a moor point because I can’t freaking type on my phone and the only thing autocorrect is good for is taking words I meant to write and changing them into words I never intended.

Do you guys have Nintendo online? I don’t and I haven’t noticed any adds popping up, though I do get notifications all the time for sets of icons or stickers or something that I promptly ignore.

I have always enjoyed Zelda so I’m looking forward to the new one. Even some of the lesser Zelda games are pretty good, so I have expectations of at least having a good time.

A) The scabbard for that sword is absurd. If it’s wide at the bottom and skinny at the top, it doesn’t come out without destroying the thing.

B) I don’t have nintendo online. But I do own a Zelda game, so they must assume I’m their target market. But I have moor of a casual interest at best.

If you look closely, there’s a metal edge riveted onto most of the top side of the scabbard. Presumably it’s open on that side down to the widest point, and so the tip needn’t enter the scabbard at the throat, but much lower down.

I’ve been seeing no pop-ups for Tears, but don’t have Nintendo Online and already have the game pre-ordered, so there are a few possible reasons for that. But I also don’t know how much of it I’ll be able to play for a while, because both of my kids have been big on Breath of the Wild recently. Then again, they go to school and bed.

For what it’s worth, the first review for Zelda that I’ve seen is from Game Informer, who called it “incredible” and gave it a 9.75. Yes, it’s the subjective opinion of one person but maybe all the ad slamming isn’t to prop up a mediocre game.

Edit: Reviews are starting to pop up on various sites and it’s getting 10s from a lot of them. If Zelda isn’t your thing, you’re likely not swayed, but this sound like a winner for anyone interested in the IP.

Yup, my buddy is BIG into Zelda, calls BotW one of his top games, and is constantly shocked that I don’t care for them. This morning he said its a 96 or something absurd on metacritic.

Not my cuppa, but to each their own.

I have and I keep getting bombarded, also the USE THE DAMN COUPONS ads get pretty annoying

Nintendo Online users can buy 2 coupons worth 50€ for 99€ which then can be used on about 3 dozen games to purchase. Those games are all Nintendo published and all top-shelf Nintendo games. Since Nintendo asks for 70€ for about a handful of them and only discounts those specific games once in a blue moon the coupons are actually a good deal but come on.

Or when they circlejerk 3 times with three different ads when games are added to the Online Subscription (NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBA or MD collections)

Maybe I wouldn’t be as pissed at that stuff if they would…
a: have a better online/shopping experience about 10 years more modern and only 5 years behind their competition and…
b: a release schedule worth a damn regarding the back catalog as well as worthwhile (and MORE) offerings.

Or maybe I am just entering my final form…
