I’m concerned about a massive open world game getting rave reviews on release day. Did they get advance copies? Did they finish the game? Or are the reviews actually first impressions that are hurriedly published to capture the zeitgeist (and the clicks)?
They will typically get advance copies, so they should have done their due diligence. That said, honest reviews are few and far between, so take all scores with a pinch of salt. They almost certainly did not finish the game.
Yeah, these journalists must have advance copies. I forget where I saw this point, but there are a number of reviews out there already saying things like, “I’m 60 hours in, and I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface!”
That looks incredible who’s in when it releases?
I tried to set up a multiplayer with friends a decade ago, but couldn’t get them committed. I think someone corrupted the save file after a couple of turns and that was it.
Wishlisted. Had me at sync and async
I’m in
So far I’m quite enjoying Tears of the Kingdom but, as mentioned, I’m a Zelda fan. I don’t think there’s much here to sway anyone who doesn’t like Zelda or, in particular, Breath of the Wilds. So far, it’s really BotW cranked up to 11. There is a new crafting element that really opens up puzzle solutions and has had me patting myself on the back a couple of times over what I thought was a clever way to solve a puzzle.
oh yeah, and turn-based.
I’m definitely enjoying Tears of the Kingdom more and more. I’m not a big open world gamer and I rarely get hooked on them, but Breath of the Wild got its claws into me and now TotK.
I just made it to the first temple and the path there legitimately made me sweat. I guess that’s a sign of a good game.
So I have been playing a bit of Age of Wonders 4.
You know how there was that master of magic remake? It didn’t really scratch that itch… not sure why.
But AoW4 feels like it is exactly what I have been looking for to modernise and replace my MoM obsession.
The sheer amount of variability has been amazing. The way tye tomes work. The cultures and the characteristics!
I get the issues with races not having an impact, I don’t like that change, but I don’t see a need to shake my fist at the moon.
But yeah; I no longer feel a need to go back to MoM
Had you played any of the previous AoW games?
Yeah, heaps! They never quite hit it for me. Either the heroes were overpowered or non-existent.
And the pacing was just off most of the time.
I don’t remember the research and magic system being as good as what this iteration is either.
Another cool aspect is that you get a hero option when you get an extra city. So it feels less random and more functional.
I want to play an arpg… but don’t know which!
I own d2r and d3, but kind bored. PoE always is so intimidating and grim dawn feels slow.
Wait 2 weeks for d4?
Yes, but I also recommend Chronicon
I can’t imagine wanting an ARPG at this point and not waiting two weeks for Diablo 4…
Two weeks?!?
4pm PDT on June 1st is less than 8 days from now!
I didn’t preorder
I will also always and forever buy physical as often as possible so my plan is to walk into a store on release day and grab a copy.
What do they give you physical these days?
I don’t even have a cd drive!
