I’d post mine, but the 2 months I spent unemployed tell quite an embarrassing story when it comes to my screen time
Same. The PSP was a SRPG wonderland, and I thought the Disgaea port there would be another crown jewel like the TO and FFT remakes, or fun new stuff such as Jeanne d’Arc. But I bailed early into it. Disgaea was wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle. For a FFT superfan like me, that held little appeal. Grinding through endless fights with tons of samey experiences over and over, what was the point?
Triangle Strategy (Switch, PC) and Tactics Ogre Reborn (Switch, PC, PS 4+5) had the most nominations for tactical/roleplay GotY on many gaming websites.
Ok, I am already like 6 hours into Against the Storm and this is really good!
Shocking…not shocking that the MP Games I play with my group of friends every Wednesday and Thursday evening dominate this chart. As I am more of a couch gamer the focus on Steam was mostly MP…and most of the SP stuff was done on the couch with my Steamdeck which arrived end of June.
I really liked the hexagon chart of this statistic. I always scroll down to it when I see shared stats.
Mine was…rather eye-opening…and they have a “Warhammer 40k game” metric? Bwhahaha!
What truly floored me was my Ixion stat. The game was released on 7th December. The cutoff date for this statistic was the 14th of December. 10% of my playtime this year fell on one game which had only 1 week to count for it. And that’s with MP Sessions of Valheim, Borderlands 3, Stellaris, and Wildermyth twice a week for ~80-90% of the year…
…yeah I am an Ixion-addict, go figure! I fear for my health when Homeworld 3 is released next year…
Edit:
This stats are so fun. This is the one time I regret going with the “don’t share my data” option. Both the brand new PS4/5 and the Switch version of this statistic didn’t work for me since I opted out of data sharing.
Greedy corporate hounds…of course if they had a dedicated “share only data for play statistics” I would have checked that option but no…all or nothing data sharing… fistshake
And I am wayyy more interested in my Playstation/Nintendostats than my Steamstats…grrrr
Finally got my link.
Looks like I am a loyal gamer on a platform. Played Gloomhaven and nephilim to conclusion, aria chronicle is about 70% done, and against the storm has been lovely.
See that big play gap?
I will give you one guess what consumed that time… it was something I had to quit when I moved to the US….
I like this recap actually!
I almost bought Symphony of War over the weekend, but then instead bought:
XCom Chimera
Steamworld Heist
40k Gladius
For a combined $12 for all three.
But Symphony does look good, I just went for some deep discounts instead since I had already bought Against the Storm on Friday.
Does anyone have any experience with at-home VR?
I’ve never used VR, I’ve never been interested in VR, but my 10 year old has been talking about it and I’ve now begun to think ever so slightly about the PSVR2 coming out in Feb. for the family.
One thing I need to do is figure out if there are even games that would make it worth it.
I really liked XCOM Chimera - finished it once, decided not to go back for achieves.
It’s a really solid game I thought, as good as x com 2
I picked up an Oculus (now Meta) Quest over Covid. Despite being owned by Facebook, it seems to be the best thing on the market for untethered VR (wireless, and without requiring a PC). In terms of games, I mainly picked it up to play HL: Alyx, but this requires a PC with a GPU capable of running it (probably a 2070?). Unfortunately, while HL: Alyx is a pretty amazing experience, once you’ve played HL: Alyx, the remaining VR games seem not so great. Beyond that, I pretty much just used it to play Beatsaber (which is great if you like rhythm games).
I expect PSVR2 might push for some better games, but the downside of the PSVR environment is that modding is not available. Mods for Beatsaber allow you to play thousands of songs that other players developed their own charts for, rather than being limited to the 10s of songs that come with the game. Modding for HL: Alyx opens up some user-made VR versions of Bioshock and HL using the Steam Workshop. Apparently Astro Bot Rescue Mission is supposed to be a full game VR-experience for those looking for more of Astro’s Playroom, but without PSVR I’ve been unable to try it myself.
Nice Stats bro!
Kinda a missed opportunity for Valve to make the games on these stats not directly linked to the store page of said game. There were a couple of ones here where I had to search manually because I got curious…hmpf!
Yeah! So, interestingly, I put back a number of games after plying and deciding they weren’t my jam.
- Roll Player
- Hard West 2
- banners of ruin
- Chrono Ark
- Vermintide 2
I can’t stand having games in my backlog I will never play… so the refund button is my friend
I have previously bounced on Hard West and Roll Player as well.
I bought nothing in the current (or recent?) Steam sale but I did buy a few things on Switch, and still have one left to try before I post a rant here about my own poor judgement in buying games on sale…
It’s probably a good thing that I don’t play PC games because I make enough bad decisions on the App Store already.
Hahah! I do like that refunds are so easy on steam and iOS, certainly helps with fomo (and means pirating is less attractive)
So of the games I bought in the Steam Winter Sale, here are my thoughts:
Against the Storm: I bought it last Thursday night and already have 25 hours in the game. It really is a nice mix of relaxing builder, with moments of frantic tension to break things up. I really like it so far. I am a little concerned about it getting somewhat repetitive though from here on out.
Chimera Squad: This is a nice “X-Com Light” and I find it very refreshing. Just enough to fiddle with, while not making you spend half your time managing a base. The base is there, it is just easier. I love X-Com and it’s depth, but this is a really nice steamlined version.
Gladius Relics of War: So I just finished my first Space Marine game and I won. It was not what I was expecting, as I was really thinking Civilization but 40k. It really is more of a tactical battle story though. I had to play through 6 chapters and I did and won the game from finishing the story? It turns out there were some AI factions in the game also, but I never saw them, I guess they were following their own campaign in their corners and we never had to branch out full map? I liked the game though. Will try another faction this week.
Steamworld Heist: I have started it twice now and have just gotten bored at the beginning. I hear it is good, but I am having trouble getting into it so far. Will try again this weekend.
It doesn’t feel like there’s much game at the beginning of Steamworld Heist, but it gets richer as it goes along. There’s an over-arching plot, and you start adding more crew members and weapons as you complete certain missions, each with very distinct personalities and skill sets. So you have options for each battle. There’s very little “management” that happens and the story is completely on-rails, so you’re not going to have any branching path action. But it has a lot of character, and I enjoyed the gameplay. And the meaningless hats.
I have added Chimera Squad to my list–that sounds really good : )
I do like having Steam friends, I get a lot of ideas of games to buy. So if you are not my Steam friend, please add me. I think I noticed from those who posted recent Steam year in review things, @Baelnor and @Private_Prinny are not my Steam friends for sure. My Steam friend code is 64748372
Only a couple of you are my Steam friends, and I’d like to add more, so my code is 65032622.
I didn’t post a replay because I didn’t play all that much on Steam this year. Hope that’ll change this year. The one thing I bought in the winter sale was Wildermyth, a party-based tactical RPG that (at least from the description) lets you use heroes across campaigns. I’m only about a half hour in, but I plan to play a bunch this week. That and Dorfromantik, because it remains one of the most relaxing games I own, and it’s super easy to jump into and out of.
Invite sent. I’m 1067607617, also JS619 on Steam.
