I am very much the exact same way, though I am currently back in FFXIV, so I guess you can say that is ongoing.

I think this is one of the reasons I’ve gravitated towards the Roguelike games recently - you don’t need to (though you can) play them for hundreds of hours. I find I am enjoying the quick-hitters more that the big epic games, and I am happy spending a couple dollars on something that I will get a couple hours out of.

Wow, Solforge was great. Damn they ruined it with the „new“ Client.

League of Legends and MTG Arena is all I play. Been playing League since 2011 predominately. Youngest son is now into it and a higher level than I am…of course. MTGA I just get in my dailies most mornings and play around.

LoL addict here. I’ve been playing since beta with a big break when I was in law school.

Nice!

Favorite champs?

What level are you in ranked?

Have you tried Faster Than Light?
And if you like Civilization, have you tried Through the Ages? It’s like Civ as a board game.

Yeah, this is where I have been recently too. I played a game of Civ 6 a couple weekends ago and had to make myself stick to a single game. I kept wishing there was a rogue-like version of a Civ type game.

Yup, I play TtA fairly regularly and have FTL on both Steam and on my iPad. Good suggestions though.

Have you tried Northgard? I just got it on iPad last week and it’s very like a civ game as rogue-like.

Shadow Empire, if you want to disappear into a game. 350 page manual. Completely opaque. Civ 4x wargame card-driven RPG. Fucking silly.

Nah, just the good ones (although my collection does seem to include almost all of the roguelike deckbuilders).

I actually have a story about that. As you know as a long time player, there used to be a level cap of 30 and there was no champion mastery. They introduced that right around the time I took my law school break so when I returned I was still level 30. I only started playing ranked last year and I am very hard stuck bronze and (even though this is everyone’s excuse) it is usually because of my teammates. Climbing has been rough because when I get on a roll I’ll suddenly be in a team of level 30s who are all trying new champs in ranked or something like that.

Anyways, I play mid and play a fairly wide range of champs. My highest masteries are Cho (playing him AP mid), Shyvana (also AP mid), and Kassadin. My favorite off-meta pick is a Lee Sin mid that I will play into champs like Yone or Talon. I have a decent pool of traditional mids that I play depending on team comps.

Yup, 106 minutes played on Northguard. I keep saying I should go back and play more, but just unmotivated to do so. I am sure it is a fine game though. I picked it up because I wanted a game I could just build a defense and turtle on, and I read that turtling was a good strategy in that game, but then it turned out I had to remember where all of my people were and what they were doing.

I have it but I haven’t sunk my teeth into it.

Is it worth it?

It is…but you have to get into it for it to be worth it if you see what I mean. Once you’ve actually read some of the rulebook and played enough to puzzle it all out I think the time cost is justified, but also the game is too opaque for its own good. I would never recommend it to someone not looking to sink serious time into it.

Looking at that list of games, the obvious suggestion for a time-eater that comes to my mind is a Paradox grand-strategy: a rough recommendation order for trying them would be Crusader Kings (2 if you want a more mature but rather more opaque experience, 3 for the streamlined-but-barer-bones-as-yet), Stellaris, Europa Universalis IV, but go with whatever theme appeals to you.

I like to play support and top. Support I’m pretty decent with Nami, Leo, Naut, Pant. Top I usually go Malph or Yorick.

I was silver for a few years, but am in promos now to get into silver. It’s crazy how bad your teammates can be. Such a lack of understanding for the game. Can be very frustrating, but man I love this game. It always keeps me coming back for some reason.

Years ago there was a neat little rogue-like 4x game on iOS but it has disappeared. I don’t even remember the name of it. Empires, maybe? You basically expanded your civilization but there was some persistent supernatural plague that would eventually overwhelm you. I was just thinking about the game recently and wishing I could find it again.
