Wargames: WOPR?
@feederofgoats great suggestionāI will try this one on her : )
@univac She doesnāt like being told what to do : ) Or maybe itās just when I tell her?
@Apex You are spot-on! I put Flipflop Solitaire on her phone last night, but I donāt think sheās tried it yet. I think that will be a winner. I was not aware of the other two, but both look promising. I may try Hero Emblem myselfā¦
@Tamsk I shall try these out. I was totally unaware of these.
@Mirefox I love the Layton games and wish theyād create a new one for switch already! I think they may be a little too cerebral for her wish to zone out.
THANK YOU all for these great suggestionsāI really appreciate it : ) If I knew how to use emojis, Iād put a bunch here. It would be dazzling.
Two late suggestions since I just saw this post: Topsoil and Six Match, two of my favorite match-3-ish zone out games of the past couple of years.
These looks greatāthanks!
Eloh is a fun one. You slide boxes around to redirect a bouncing ball to the target. Starts simple but the difficulty ramps up. Good relaxing rhythm element, too.
I have finally beaten all five teams at covenant 25 on monster train. Some of the elite challenges are absolutely bonkers. I consider it āfinishedā though, so on to a new game.
I submitted a refund ticket for Curious Expedition 2, not a fan.
And I have swapped back in to Godhood which is fun.
Still want to put more hours into Final Fantasyā¦
Also, playing a little F2P gem - Dicast. Super fun, based on D6 rolling and pvp.
If you check it out, let me know and you can join my guild - not competitive at all. Somehow the old guild master timed out and I couped it.
Just started getting into Stellaris after finally getting a new MacBook Proā¦ any tips would be welcome lol!
Flipflop Solitaire is a solid recommendation. All of Zach Gageās games are fantastic.
Stellaris, uh, thereās a lot going on in that game. Good luck! I ended up sitting down with a friend and getting a one on one tutorial to get me up to speed with that game. It was worth it though
Donāt be afraid of the first couple of hours and restart frequently if you think you messed up hard. It is a complex game but it becomes evident what is important soon enough. What I like about Stellaris is its Sci-Fi focus and also (in direct comparison to Paradox other Grand Strategy titles) easy approach.
I suggest focusing the first couple of months on energy production to get enough credits to recruit a couple of researchers. Get the youngest first (longer life-> more chance to get old and level up which increases bonus stats). If their expertise is better than the expertise of the current 3 heads of sociology/engineering/physics research switch them out, if not put them into Science vessels and start surveying away ASAP. After 3-4 ships try focusing on expanding your empire with the constructor ship and focus on systems with lots of resources (Energy->Alloys->Minerals->Trade Ressource->Science resources). Try to focus on energy creation first since you can easily end up in a spiraling deficit loop if not careful.
Edit: After a year or so check your capital planetās population. It may be between 2/3rds and 3/4ths of growing one population. Build then one building or district to get free spots for employing new pops.
A pitfall I fell often into is overfocussing on districts/buildings first which then burden your income with their maintenance cost and are not working since you miss working population.
In the first years try increasing ressource production mainly trough stellarexpansion with mine stations.
That seems to be the way to do it. A friend took me through CK2 in the same way. Iād love to get to the point where I can really play Paradox titles on my own all the way through.
Iāve been dipping my toes a bit into Achievement Hunting and it is honestly soul crushing. Some games have some solid and well-defined achievements that reward skill or ingenuity; I recently got everything in Meteorfall and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges. There are other games, though - and it seems most board games do this - that tie achievements not to special challenges but merely to the amount of games played. Win 10,000 games of Ascension (not sure if real, but if hyperbole a good example of many of the achievements out there)? Thatās just stupid. I think achievements that I can theoretically do in one game are rewarding; bringing games for the sake of grinding games isnāt.
As far as my personal quest goes, at this point I am just forgetting about any games that tie achievements to play count/time and focusing on the more single-player-driven games that reward the completion of fun challenges.
@Private_Prinny Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny drops June 29th for Switch in the US and I assume EU.
It looks bonkers-crazy with 4 new characters.

I meant to reply to this at the time, but consider the gears of war series. They have an achievement called āseriouslyā and each different gears game has one of these. Kill 10,000 in multiplayer, or kill 100,000 enemies etc. The thread I read said āseriously 3.0ā would take 2 years of grinding for 7 hours a day to achieve.
But some people do it, and they get the achievement pop up (and hopefully they can then get on with their lives).
My take away when I see an achievement like that is to know itās just not for me. Maybe grind it out for a couple of days to get a sense of the scale of the task, then move on. If you really, deeply, exclusively love a game so much to get these achievements, then I think itās only fair you get the achievement banner pop up when you do. Good for you, I hope you had fun mate.
Im having a little blast through FTL (when Iām not playing pinball anyway). I almost forgot how tense the fights can get, and how then can turn on a dime if you get a bad hit (or a hack bot to the shields).
Iām currently trying to unlock the tenth ship via finishing the game with A and B ships from the first 8. I took a screenshot of my rock A run to enjoy the carnage, then I saw I had 69% oxygen left so I felt that was a sign for me to post it
Do you allow yourself to pause while playing, or do you outlaw its use?
I lolād at this - isnāt the game hard enough on its own without pauses?
I pause, extensively and unashamedly. Iāve seen someone play without pausing and I have nothing but respect for that added difficulty, and Iām certainly going to try it myself some time.
As a rule, if it is a feature, Iāll use it. This goes doubly so for a difficult game. No need for me to make FTL harder than I already find it.
