Apple Arcade is getting Civilization VII and three more new games - 9to5Mac

Huge, literally and figuratively. Civ VII coming to iOS courtesy of Apple Arcade. No word on whether maps will be limited ala the Switch 2 version, but it says cross play with Mac which leads me to believe it will allow them all? We’ll find out in a few weeks.

This actually might be the first game to make Apple Arcade a worthwhile part of my Apple One sub.

eta: trailer looks REALLY good - Popular PC franchise Civilization comes to Apple Arcade on February 5 - Apple

This is cool. I have played every Civ since the first, except for VII since the reviews are just not good and I figured I would wait for a deep discount. So I also have the Apple One family plan, so this will be nice way to see for myself. (Although there is usually an Apple Arcade game or two that my daughter and I like)

I’ve also been playing since the first iteration. Civ 7 is good; I’m not a huge fan of how things go to shit each new age, but I think they’ve implemented settings to minimize that.

I miss the religious aspect, but don’t mind not having to manage missionaries and priests and whatnot.

imho it’s Civ - it’ll take them till Civ 8 to make everyone somewhat happy with it lol.

There was a perfectly functional Hive app long ago, before the appocalypse, and it was a terrific phone game. Right up there with The Battle for Hill 218.

Agreed, I remember. And Phantom Leader

It reads: from the same team that brought you 80 days, Overboard! … I wonder if it’s the ‘Inkle’ team under a new name. They make amazing games. But they did not mention Sorcery, despite being their best game(s) really…. Very mysterious.

It’s one of my go-to travel games.

I like the look of the app as it looks exactly like the tabletop version. I do find it a bit concerning that there is no mention of multiplier. If it comes with any challenges or even Game Center achievements to hunt I may be onboard, but I don’t think I need a barebones game just just play the AI ad nauseum.

Ah, didn’t look that deeply but agreed

Apparently on “mobile” too, though I couldnt find exactly what they mean by that

If you wanna play Hive in a dedicated app, you might wanna try “Hive with AI”. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.hive.android

Older then the recent AI-on-everything-hype. And it uses/is integrated with BoardGameArena to find players worldwide with ELO-rating etc.

At least that was a few years ago. I just ay it over at BGA

Galactic Civilizations IV 50% off in sale for 18 bucks on steam.
a boardgame adaptation, right?

No, the GalCiv series is Stardocks take on the Masters of Orion series. The game is fairly solid if you are looking for a MOO/Civ type game.

We played Gal Civ quite a bit in college. It’s the spiritual successor to Master of Orion. There is an unfortunate lack of multiplayer.

I know just about everyone here uses Steam but the whole series is available in GoG as well for the DRM-free version.

Bought this on ipad for nostalgia. Haven’t played any of the new games. $30 for the full game.

I did not know about this:

Zee just released a video on dice tower, this is how I came to search for it on the store. But I don’t like watching the “What’s APPening” series, so I really don’t know if the digital version is any good.. But I’ve heard good things about the physical game, and I was on the edge of getting it anyway.

Lack of multiplayer killed my excitement.

I would love an asynchronous cooperative game.
