The game itself seems legit. Like age of rivals but with a bigger budget. I suspect I’m gonna get slapped around by freemium nonsense soon enough, but we will see

Yeah, keep us informed. The original was great.

Here’s some gameplay found on YT of AoR:C

I downloaded and started. So many flashing numbers and lights, hasn’t required any decisions yet (almost cleared first stage).

That said, these games are like crack.

Let us know how it goes. I always find the first 30 minutes of all these games entertaining and there is always that pull of getting a chop new character, but the appeal fades fast. I mean, you couldn’t target me any more directly with “RPGs” where you collect characters from Marvel or Star Wars or Final Fantasy but even those don’t hold my interest. The only game of this sort I currently have running is AFK Arena and mainly because of an inside joke I’ve had with some buddies for well over a decade about an old computer program called Progress Quest.

Anyways, I previously said I’m done with genre all together and I’m probably sticking to my guns there, but if you report back that this is something exceptional I may still take a peek.

I remember progress quest, and on IOS there was Godville, which was a play on that.

I will say that Marvel Strike Force has managed to keep my interest for 3 years. It’s the only game of its kind that has kept me coming back day after day. It’s also my favorite IP though.

Sadly, AFK Arena limits your AFK progress to 6 hours or something, so it was no Progress Quest.

Also, while you can accumulate exp and gold while away, you still need to apply it to your characters, so there is zero character growth without your input.

Honestly, it is exactly like every other game in the genre.

There just seems to be no end.

There is an auto battle mode whereby you fight inside weapons, upgrading them, and there is no energy consumed.

Insane.

i don’t get what these auto-progress and auto-battle games (but not the so called “auto-chess” games like TFT) are all about.

i prefer a game like Rivengard where the tactical turn-based battles really need some brain and wits.
good team synergy and clever maneuvers rule.
and i’m making good progress without spending big money.

They are about the illusion of getting stuff. They really aren’t games at all unless you consider a slot machine a game. I hate them to my core and even then I’m suckered into taking a peek if one has an IP I like.

A couple updates on Summoner Wars (from me, not anything official):

  • While you can still download the now-pulled app if you’ve already purchased it, you cannot get your IAP back; clicking restore purchases gives you an error that the App Store can’t be found. Unless you’ve kept the game on your device, you’ll be stuck with the tundra orcs and Phoenix elves. I don’t know if multiplayer works.

  • The browser-based version of the game is still in alpha and is a bit rough, but it is playable on my iPhone. While a browser game is clearly a step back from a native app (with asynchronous notifications - a huge deal for me), it looks like we will still be able to play from our mobile devices.

  • I’m not a fan of the new art. The cards are all more interesting, though. As a game, I’m looking forward to digging in to the new edition. I will definitely be picking it up as a physical copy and will likely try and stay on top of expansions, unless Plaid Hat gets very carried away.

Is it just me, or is there a huge speed increase in connecting to online Digidiced games since iOS 14.5? My Castles of Burgundy game seems lightning fast.

You are not the only one. Wow. Way faster!

I just means I lose faster :frowning:

The Riverfolk expansion is out for Root. There are also three new Vagabonds and it looks like more than one person can play as vagabond.

Anybody up for a game?

If anyone figures out if everyone needs to buy the expansion for one person to play Riverfolk, please let us know. It would be nice to play as a new army without requiring each of my friends to buy the expansion if they don’t want it.

Woah, that is ambitiously priced for an expansion. Well, I’ve been waiting for the new factions so I’ll pony up, but hm.

I’m in!

@whovian223 @Mirefox @feederofgoats
I’ve bought the expansion and started a new game, password sptest.
Feel free to pick a faction if you want to play with any of the new ones specifically. @Mirefox - if you haven’t bought the expansion, see if it’ll let you join.

Yeah, I’ll do that in a bit. I think I want to buy it, but might as well test this out without it first.
