For what is is worth, I have not purchased the expansion but I was able to at least join the game lobby.

I’m in! I chose Lizards since I just finished the tutorial for them

You know what I should have tested? Whether I could select a dlc army without owning the expansion. I think I may back out and try.

I left and came back in to see if I could select the river folk. I could not. I picked the eyrie because I understand them best. I still suck at the game.

The actual board game has suggested mixes of factions. I don’t know if the app version recommends or enforces these mixes. I assume they do this for balance reasons.

I don’t know how detailed it is, but there is a “warning” (it’s the exclamation mark at the bottom of the screen) if the factions chosen may have “low interaction.”

I also don’t know if it has other similar warnings based on factions chosen.

MuHa Games and Slitherine are bringing back Master of Magic in 2022.

Oh, this could be interesting. I was definitely confused by this since they’ve already published Master of Magic on Steam, although it is just a modded up version of the original version. I wonder if the remake will incorporate any of the “Caster of Magic” mod maker’s tweaks?

I asked about Card Hog just yesterday and in a strange coincidence it is on sale today for - free. Perhaps it is more shallow than other games in the same genre that we like around here, but now everyone can try it out, I guess.

Not our usual fare, but “Mighty Doom” has soft launched in New Zealand, and probably other places.

It’s a twin stick shooter (which only uses one stick) and has a doom theme. It’s got all of the usual freemium stuff, though the only real timer is an energy timer. There is another chest based timer, but it doesn’t restrict gameplay like clash Royale and it’s ilk. It honestly feels more like design by committee and they’ve stuffed a timer in there because everyone else has one.

The gameplay loop is reasonable, with temporary upgrades during your run allowing different builds, and permanent upgrades between runs. Normally permanent upgrades act as a gatekeeping mechanism as you can’t continue until you grind them up high enough. The thing that has me curious is that shoot em ups/bullet hell games are intrinsically skill based, so you might be able to finish without the upgrades.

Anyway, would be worth a look if you’re into that kind of game. I’ve no idea what kind of legs it’s got, probably none, but worth a look

Deja vu, anyone?

Maybe…

But also don’t expect much post-release content. They make good games but once they publish them they are not all that concerned with future support…

Divinity Original Sin 2 is out on high end iPads now. I can’t play it due to hardware limitations but what a great game to have on a tablet!

They did say all existing Dominion expansions will be available at launch, so hopefully they won’t have to do too much post-release support. Agree 100% with you, though–I’m still mad about the lack of a Shards of Infinity expansion.

Shards is dead without expansions. There are only so many times you can play that base game before it becomes stale. That isn’t my biggest issue, though - lack of notifications for Race and now Shards with zero indication that they care to fix it does not instill confidence for future games.

If Dominion is a couple bucks I’ll try it out, but based on their previous games I’m guessing $10. And $5 an expansion gets steep. We will see…

Temple Gates’ tweets say the base game is free, expansions will be $5 or $10 each.
