Interesting, dont know how it will transfer to digital though. It’s a long game with a high player count, with lots of negotiation.
Checking the Steam forums, apparently this has asynchronous, but no notifications.
In my one play of the physical game, it seemed like this game is pretty unbalanced if your aren’t playing the full 6 players, but I’ll always have fond memories of the wildlings overrunning the Wall on turn 1…
There’s a system for handling lower player counts, but I think it’s introduced in the first expansion. I seem to remember it being called the vassal system. Other players (Or yourself) temporarily take control of the vassals so they can be a threat or a temporary ally. I thought it worked pretty well in my group, and let us play with the full board. I’d imagine the balance goes downhill fast without the full player count or vassal system.
I’ve given Squire for Hire a try and I’m a little torn. Thus game itself is neat. It is a micro game that consists of 18ish cards. You get a squire that has unique ways of scoring and then essentially go through the deck and add cards to the tableau in front of you in a nifty little spatial puzzle that tasks you with minimizing the visible junk while placing certain items adjacent to each other. The visuals are pleasant other than the fairly basic quest text. There aren’t many options for play but you can play a solo game, a campaign or sorts, or pass and play multiplayer. I would bet I get the most mileage out of simply comparing my high score to my wife’s.
My biggest issue with the game is actually the price. $4 certainly doesn’t break the bank and the developers do deserve a reward for their work but the game is also very simplistic. On top of that, the physical game is only about twice the price (and thanks to this app I will be buying it for an upcoming trip). I can recommend the game, but it also feels like something that could have easily been $1-2. I hope this doesn’t come off as whiny because I am willing to pay premium prices for premium games, but I also recognize there is a big difference between a game like this and a game like Root, for example, in terms of depth and options.
Update: I’m terrible at Squire for Hire…
XCOM 2 coming to iOS …
…mind blown!
Should I purchase it a third time? And also finally, finishing it? Darn…it will be a hard purchase…but supporting full premium mobile ports is a warpath I am still not tired trudging on…
Edit:
iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)
…barely made it on the combatibility list…which makes me nervous…it IS a ressource hogging game after all…
The XCOM 2 Collection for iOS includes the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen and four DLC packs. It is priced at £23.99 / $24.99 / €27,99.
That’s a price point I can get behind!
Take all my money! Exact same boat as @Private_Prinny - third platform and maybe I’ll finish it finally?
Full disclosure: I never finished the first XCOM and probably won’t buy the second, but I knew plenty of people here would be interested in the news …
I appreciate you letting us know about Squire for Hire. I didn’t end up buying the app, instead I downloaded the PnP version. I’ve played it solo once and did okay, but not quite the 35 points for a win. Because this is such a fast and easy game I’m looking forward to playing it with friends.
I decided to go for the PnP version because I liked the idea of actually playing it in real life instead of on a screen. You cannot beat the price, but it does take some time to cut out the cards just right. This was my first time putting together a PnP game.
My best may be 20. Usually closer to 15. I’m just terrible.
I’ve ordered a number of the printed to copy to give out as gifts for the coming Christmas season.
Just came here to post this. I assume you’re on the emails as well
That’s great news, and a hell of a scalp for Acram. Concordia is a pretty big deal, and everyone I know knows Concordia
More good news for us, looks like Labyrinth is coming to mobile on the 12th of November. Should be pretty popular considering how many twilight struggle fans we’ve got here
I know I’m really enjoying it so far.
I’m not very good as the US player, but I’m enjoying it.
This news wins the internet for the day!
Was there any word if that’s iPad only or universal?
Dicey Dungeons on sale on Steam for like $7.50 and I highly recommend.
