It turns out 3p games still have a bug in viticulture. So we’ll have to wait.
Odd that 2p invites work fine.

Wonder if 4 has the same bug?
we are playing a 4P and it runs fine.
notifications and badges are functioning well and i always have a fast connection to the running game when loading the game.
graphics are nice and UI is clear and pleasant.
gameplay seems to have promising potential.
i’m glad to play.
what is the problem with 3P games?
We get an error when we try to set it up.
Any 4th player out there want to join to test?
How steep is the learning curve for Viticulture? I’ve never played the game, but I won a copy in a giveaway yesterday and gotta learn sometime, so I could be your 4th …
I have a question about Slay the Spire. I understand that it is much-loved and highly-praised, but there are also plenty of other games that seem to do similar things. It’s been 3 years since STS was released and as I never played on PC, I’ve had 3 years worth of other games riding that card-base roguelike wave. On iOS I’ve played games like Meteorfall, Night of the Full Moon, Solitairica, Void Tyrant, Hearthstone stories, and I’m sure others that I’ve forgotten about at this point. Slay the Spire is $10 so I am trying to decide if it is different enough or better enough to justify paying for another game similar to the many I’ve played. Any opinions?
I think it’s the cream of the crop for that genre. No question it has a lot of similarities with other deckbuilding roguelikes, so if you’re burned out on that genre, I can see waiting for a sale or passing it up altogether, but $10 is a fair price for a game that goes for $20 (I believe) on other platforms.
The game does play better on iPad. It’s good on iPhone, but I’ve accidentally played cards and struggled to see their descriptions, as my finger blocks my view in a way the pointer doesn’t on the PC or Switch versions. It’s still perfectly suited for mobile.
It offers more variety of deckbuilding options than the other games you’ve mentioned, for sure. The card pool’s just that much bigger. Meteorfall & Solitairica offer more heroes, I believe, but the path to the boss on each level is much more linear. Void Tyrant has somewhat similar variance in exploration options, but the different heroes are too alike for my liking. StS’ four heroes are well fleshed-out and play very differently.
I’m a huge deckbuilding roguelike fan, so I had no problem buying the game on a 3rd system.
Yeah, Slay the Spire is a no-brainer purchase, especially if you don’t already own it on PC, and regardless of whether or not you’ve played other similar deckbuilding games. It essentially created this specific genre that other games are trying to emulate and build upon, like Monster Train, which I prefer to StS.
I think it’s pretty easy to pick up for someone who’s an experienced gamer. Just have to remember not to ignore the cards.
just FYI
digidiced’s Viticulture loads and connects to a running game on my old and (kind of) outdated iPad Air2 in 12 seconds.
faster than many other games can do.
i tried to upload the screen capture video but “sorry, the file you are trying to upload is not authorized (only jpg, jpeg, png, gif)”.
I think Dream Quest can be called a predecessor to SLS, but personally SLS got me hooked much more. Don’t know why, but it’s been quite a while since a game captivated me as much as SLS did.
“SLS” being the French version of StS of course.
Mirefox, as others have already said, StS really is the pinnacle of the genre. Dream Quest set the mechanics, as did Dominion before Dream Quest. But then StS took that game idea and developed on it with very polished play and visuals.
That said, unfortunately part of that great polish for which StS is praised has been left at the wayside for the iOS port, because there’s a bunch of issues with it out of the box (UI basically). Though entirely playable still, the text is a little small and selecting cards is finicky. Honestly, nearly all of the other games currently on iOS in the genre do as of right now do the UI thing better than StS. But that aside, StS is the superior in gameplay.
Personally I find Meteorfall and void tyrant to be very light versions of the StS gameplay. Night of the full moon is somewhat better though and gets fairly close. For me, I actually find Pirates Outlaws to be the near equal (aside from Dream Quest). Pirates outlaws has mechanics which set it aside from StS and for the better honestly. One example
I’ll give is that in PO you can only carry 5 relics. This means that you have to be quite selective about what relic you want to select or sell off. Compare that to StS where a large goal of any game is to basically collect as many relics as you can, no matter what. That to me just seems more based on luck, where PO has this yes still based on a bit of luck but also the strategy of build that you want by making hard decisions to sell off relics.
So, there’s good options on iOS already. For me, those options are: Pirates Outlaws, Card Quest, Dream Quest, Dimensions of Dream, NotFM, and Blood Card.
But StS is that game that stands atop them all. It’s a very substantial game. Definitely worth the purchase right now.
Oui
I’ve put 5 hours into StS so far, and While I’ve enjoyed it, I’m not getting the same satisfaction out of it as Dream Quest. 5 hours for three runs seems excessive, especially since most decks seem to be able to autopilot to level 3 without any difficulty. When playing Dream Quest, if I made it to level 3, I knew I had a halfway decent deck. But my last run on StS I didn’t even understand the mechanics of the Defect, and I still made it to level 3.
Another thing I prefer in Dream Quest is the difference between Attack cards, Action cards, and Mana cards. Right now, everything in StS feels like an action card. And with there seeming to be less ways to get actions, the decks seem to plod along with limited ways to enable the higher action cards.
Sentinels of the Multiverse is free for a couple of days, if you haven’t tried it and want to give it a go. It hasn’t been my cup of tea, but it is certainly a well-done app and there is plenty there to keep you entertained for a long time if you like it.
FYI …
EDIT: embedding tweets not working, so what I tried to post was a MegaCrit tweet about StS saying, “Updates will be coming. Cloud save and allowing music to play are priority updates.”
Let’s hope UI improvements are high priority as well …
