great find, @Mirefox!
it really looks like a new announcement for a “complete overhaul” of Neuroshima Hex.
would make my year 2020.
but…sounds too good to be believed.

and a great (overwhelming?) chance that Portal will screw the async part of it anyways :man_facepalming:

I don’t know … I’m not optimistic.

It looks to me like the site owner just rounds up whatever iOS boardgames news he sees. And that NH thing sounds like it was taken from the same meaningless tweets/posts over the last 2-3 years. "Soon"™

I have zero faith NH is even being worked on.

There’s a new game out from Kenny Sun, developer of Twinfold, and I like what I’ve played so far:

Also, I think this announcement got lost a bit in the news of that other PC game coming to mobile this month, but Crying Suns will be out on iOS on June 25. Never bought the full version on PC but enjoyed the prologue. I’ll probably grab this to play on my iPad (I’d embed the tweet announcing the port, but it’s not working at the moment.)

Ooo, nice - I missed the news about Crying Suns (ignored the Kickstarter notification). I liked what I played of the beta.

Viticulture from Digidiced will be released next week. While I wasn’t impressed with the game the couple times I played the physical version, I’ll probably give it another shot with the digital version…

I own it on Steam and love it. They’re currently conducting an open beta for a major update dubbed Advanced Tactics, which started on May 19:

  • Each Battleship will have a specific technological modifier (that you can’t sell) that will greatly impact the strategies and builds
  • Reworked all enemy battleship setups to use a larger array of weapons/officers/squadrons/auxiliary system and offer more variety and challenges.
  • Player battleships have been reworked
  • Some difficulty settings have changed.
  • A new type of POI where you can Upgrade you squadrons Marks: the OMNI forge
  • 3 new categories of neutral units on the battlefield that can be “activated” during the fight.
  • 8 new types of weapons with brand new effects
  • 4 new auxiliary systems
  • 5 new types of squadrons
  • 3 new officers abilities

I suspect the update will drop on Steam to coincide with the iOS release.

Sounds a bit like FTL’s “Advanced Edition”

Err no…the Ship to Ship combat is QUITE different.
It copies some things from FTL (the approaching Danger from pursuers mechanic) but all the fiddly onboard stuff is simplified to weapons / active abilities and strike craft management on the battlefield.

So no moving around Officers in the ship to repair stuff/extinguish fires open airlock and all the useless stuff which made me hate FTL…

They love this game over at The Dice Tower. I’ve always wanted to try it and almost blind bought it once. I’m glad for the chance to play digitally. If I like it, I imagine I’ll grab the physical game since I love Stonemeier’s production.

I get that about the game mechanic differences between the games. I Wasn’t at all just comparing crying suns to FTL directly. What I mean is in terms of the overall theme of an expansion that adds to the game on many facets like what advanced edition did for FTL base game, but never mind, I could’ve communicated that better.

I have played viticulture on table top a couple of times and really enjoyed it

Viticulture now out on iOS and android.
Digidiced said steam is soon, but seems there’s a steam page up with purchase option already.

It looks like Viticulture is $8.99 on iOS. I will download for sure as I’ve always wanted to play, but the curmudgeon in me notices that in the app store screen shots, the screen looks cropped to the 2-years-and-older iOS aspect ratio, which is a bit of a bummer.

It’s $11.99 up here in Canada (our exchange rate sucks right now).

But I downloaded it and will be trying it out later tonight.

Assuming it has async games, I’ll be more than up for one after I take it for a test run!

It has async but I’m currently having trouble getting a game to start. Sent in a bug report.

I’m up for a practice game once they start working.

I’ll play if you get a game set up.

This news has persuaded me to finally buy Terra Mystica.

Just played an AI game and it’s a pretty neat implementation.

They need to get that multiplayer bug fixed.

Anybody else want to join us once it is?

I hate the App Store and hate App Store users even more. I was just looking at Viticulture reviews to get an idea of the stability of the app and saw:

  • One review gave the game 1-star for not being universal, while it clearly is.
  • One review game the game 2-stars for not including expansions.

It is a good thing I’m not an app developer because I don’t have the patience for that kind of idiocy.
