agreed on NH, they really dropped the ball on that one

not holding out hope for mp in the IS app but it might be a fun solo

I couldnā€™t get Rob added to the game either. I started a 4p game without him. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Hopefully we can get him in the next one

My wife and I have some very vigorous competition over high scores in all of ODā€™s roll and wrote games (Noch Mal, Qwixx, Hex Roller). While multiplayer would be nice, high score competitions can be a blast.

Did you submit that as a bug? I will also do so when I can log into the game again later today.

Thanks for starting the game!

I have reported it ā€¦ using the BGG forum option ā€¦

I took the plunge on Imperial Settlers Roll & Write so Iā€™ll share my thoughts once Iā€™ve given it a fair chance.

Ok, a couple early observations.

As we already know, this is as barebones as Tides of Time. Maybe even more so. That isnā€™t as huge a deal to me in this time of game, as Iā€™ve mentioned, because the game is a simple high score chaser.

The music is pleasant and the presentIon is good. It has the same graphic design that I remember from Imperial Settlers.

The dice donā€™t roll. You just see a static picture of the dice faces. That is a disappointment.

The tutorial is wholly inadequate. It doesnā€™t tell you how to do anything, just tells you what to do. I was left baffled and will have to watch some videos on how to play.

Edit: The static dice were for the tutorial. They do roll in a normal game.

The game plays in portrait mode.

There are achievements and leaderboards.

Took the plunge for $4 also and echo your thoughts almost exactly. Tutorial was more than useless, as more than once I found myself confused about what it wanted me to do with no clear ā€œthingā€ to click or next step to take, and only through blindly clicking and dragging random things could I advance. Perhaps some knowledge of the game coming in could have helped, butā€¦ tutorial.

Graphics seem in line with IS, no idea if itā€™s true to the cardboard as I havenā€™t played that. As @Mirefox said, Iā€™ll have to watch a video or read some rules to really understand wtf is happening here.

As a game it seems good, not great. I still prefer some of the simpler roll and writes and find them to be more exciting. Perhaps as I get better at the game Iā€™ll be looking for those clutch rolls, but I havenā€™t yet found myself sweating over what the dice were going to show. Contrast thy with something like Noch Mal where I know I need a green and/or 2 with my last roll with no wilds left and there is more excitement to be had.

IS R&W basically letā€™s you use your dice to do the either unlock some buildings, which work as minor engine building, or cross off boxes on a 4-row track, which is where most of the scoring comes from. There is also a little Tetris-style mechanic that doesnā€™t seem immensely impactful or necessary.

The game does have a ā€œcampaignā€ of sorts where as you play you can unlock new sheets to play in which have new buildings to play with, so there may be some longevity.

One thing is for sure - Iā€™m apparently terrible at this game. You are ranked out of three crowns when you have finished and I have yet to get higher than 1 of 3.

I found placing the blueprints matter because they level up your buildings (something the tutorial should have explained). So, if you build ā€œSettlersā€ (lower left corner) and place that blueprint once, now you get 2 meeples instead of 1 every time 2 dice match. Figuring that out helped me get to a whopping 2 crowns out of 3.

Yeah, I get how it matters but I have yet to see how to use them all that effectively. Iā€™m sure Iā€™m not maximizing my moves at this point.

If anyone needs to learn the game, Rodney Smith has a good tutorial on YouTube.

Iā€™m finally starting to understand Roll for the Galaxyā€¦at least now Iā€™m playing with some idea of what to do, even beaten the easy AI two times in my last two games.
Took me a considerable amount of time to understand how to produce VP.
And this despite having played Race for the Galaxy for a solid year being able to beat the hard AI fairly oftenā€¦but I forgot it all.
Actually I think I might prefer this one because I love dice in general and their unpredictability.
Iā€™m still not crazy about games without a direct confrontation but we will see.
Thanks for the invites, Iā€™ll now play with some vague idea of what Iā€™m doing now.

I was browsing PixelatedCardboard and under the ā€œupcoming appsā€ section they list a complete Neuroshima Hex overhaul with an ETA of 2020. Does anyone know of this is some sort of recent announcement, or is this more likely just an updated date to the years-old promises?

Regarding Roll for the Galaxy, Iā€™ve been told by Temple Gates that the reason all of my friends are greyed out except @Hardco is that they are from Shards of Infinity and they either donā€™t have Roll (since Iā€™m in games with some of you, thatā€™s hardly true!) or they havenā€™t confirmed their email address yet

Not sure how that can be either, and I havenā€™t checked today yet, but any thoughts on what might be happening?

I did say that Iā€™m in games with some of the greyed-out friends, but havenā€™t heard anything back.

@whovian223

I have confirmed my email address so that isnā€™t the reason that you canā€™t see me. Plus ā€¦ spooky ā€¦ I can see you.

There was no reaction to my post with more details on the BGG beta feedback forum so I just assumed priority was going to gameplay bug reports.

Edit: In my report I mentioned that the buttons to scroll through the friends list were a ā€œmess of colourā€ and that has now been (coincidentally or not) fixed. Just now, in the list, I could see that halfvoid was online but I still couldnā€™t invite him to a game. So itā€™s like an alternate universe ā€¦ I see the ghosts of former allies but when I reach out my hand passes right through them and they feel nothing.

GOG.com has their summer sale up. Thousands of DRM-free games at some great prices. Iā€™ve personally always preferred GoG to other digital distributors, though there are certainly some gaping holes in their library. If you want older games, though, there is none better.

There was for a short time the dotemu shop. It had a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery limited catalog of some of the old classic games, but it had the old Silmarils games (Transarctica and Storm Master) on sale which was the ultimate wet retro-dream for me. I played the hell out of that games (Amiga versions back then) and HAD to get them again for modern hardware.
I was a bit miffed about the port quality but that was a legacy problem from the old version since back then Amiga games were superior to their pc counterparts (resolution, amount of colors, and especially (!!!) Sound quality).

I hoped that they would re-release ā€œIt came from the desert!ā€ as well but alas, that was too much to ask for. After a while of stagnant sales, they switched business models (they ported Titan Quest for iPad) and shortly after that shut down their shop. (GOG was more well known, backed by a big powerhouse (Project Red) so publishing deals must have been scarce and far between. The woes of small publishing houses/resellers to be wedged between gog, steam (and now epic).

Still, for bringing me back 2 of 4 of my teen-year most beloved ā€œpcā€ games I will be forever grateful to them (the last one was Dune (1) which I got via other means in the meantime.

Roll for the Galaxy is rapidly becoming one of my fav games.
I have a thing for dice, allocating different dice in slots is something I always found hypnotic, something I canā€™t resistā€¦first Elder Sign: Omens then Quarriors, now Roll for the Galaxy.

I was obsessed with Race for the Galaxy for many months when it first came out (especially with last expansion letting players to actually fight against each others).
Here you donā€™t fight directly but you have to check constantly your opponent progression to get the most from the dice allocation phase, which I really like.
The app has the usual polish, Iā€™m confident all remaining bugs will be solved fast.
A nice companion to the fast and furious Shards.

Awww, I miss Quarriors. Imagine if instead of letting the app die they updated it and maybe gave it a modern multiplayer suite?
