1 campaign and several quests later, I found the right analogy.
LOTR The card game is ti cards what Elder Sogn Omens is to dice (with way less RNG factor).
It’s AMAZING imho, too bad it’s not on iPad.

You may have just sold me on this game : ) I love ESO and have often wished there was a better way to augment the RNG.
Have you tried One Deck Dungeon? Still has the RNG you get from dice but there are so many different ways to mitigate the randomness.
Yes, I bought it at release : ) I played it like a fiend for a while but haven’t gone back to it in some time, though maybe now… : )
Same.
It’s a great game, ultra addicting, but after I completed all quests with all characters other games stepped in and I didn’t play it anymore.
I liked a lot (maybe even more?) Bottom of the 9 from same developer.
As for Elder Singh Omens (one of my fav digital boardgame ever) and LOTR the Card game one of their strong selling points is also having a strong narrative perfectly interconnected with mechanics and gameplay (not the case with the aftermentioned games). I’m finding LOTR particularly strong in this, with a ton of content too (3 completely different full fledged campaigns, a random adventure generator and 3 brutal ‘mini’ campaign, plus coop). Everything changes a lot too with different heroes (there are a TON).
It’s too bad that the dev (FFG Interactive Software, same of Elder Sign and other digital FFG games, before Asmodee acquisition) was disbanded after LOTR.
Not sure if the iOS port (announced years ago) is still in the cards…(they did the Switch port tough).
Ugh, you’re making me want to buy LOTR … I’d written it off after I saw FFG Interactive disbanded, assuming it wouldn’t be supported well enough to make it worthwhile.
You’ve convinced me! Do you have it on Switch or PC? If the quality of play is not much different, I’m leaning towards Switch.
Sorry can’t help, I have just the PC version
If you want to just try it, you can get MS Gamepass for just 1 euro first month in Europe, no strings attached. It’s included in the offering (among other 100 very good games).
Fort Triumph available on steam.
will come to consoles too.
a kind of Heroes of Might & Magic world exploration game with fantasy X-Com battles.
I picked up Fort Triumph over the weekend, so far so good. I am just working my way through the campaign right now.
I purchased Fort Triumph on Day 1 of entering EA. At that time, it wasn’t an HoMM-type design or fun to play.
So the devs went back to the drawing board and changed the design to be more HoMM-ey and less RPG-ey. This design was much better, but, IMO, it didn’t feel focused.
The devs then changed the design, again, to provide more focus by eliminating creatures from the player’s parties, and focusing solely on the heroes and their abilities, which is what Fort Triumph is today.
Of the three designs, the release design is, by far, the best and a lot of fun. I give the devs a lot of credit for realizing what they had initially wasn’t clicking, and going back to the drawing board not once, but twice, until they had a design that did. The game is charming as hell, and the amount of polish they added since the last day of EA to the first day of release has blown my mind.
I hope the devs receive the support they deserve, because I’d love to see them add additional content.
One final note: keep in mind that the initial hook of the game was physics-based combat. So keep this in mind when you’re in battles. You’ll be much more successful if you use the environment via physics to your advantage
North Star Games just released Evolution: Education Edition… because that’s what we needed?
Don’t know how many people here ever played (or wanted to play) Tanto-Cuore (the Dominion-like card game with anime-like girls as maids?).
Playdek originally did it for mobile platforms, but after the App-pocalypse, they didn’t update it. They originally said they were planning to do so, but never did.
I guess they never will, as I received an email from Japanime Games announcing their new digital division to bring some of their games to digital format.
It said: “Conceived to coincide with the release of Tanto Cuore’s 10th Anniversary edition, Japanime Digital has been busy working on bringing Tanto Cuore to the digital format as their very first project built from the ground up.”
So it looks like it is going to be coming back to digital, but not from Playdek.
I do recall that it was a pretty decent Dominion-like game but it was kind of creepy.
Some people must like it, though, because it has tons of expansions.
It was not my favorite theme and I always felt like I had to make sure there was nobody looking over my shoulder when I played, but it was done with the typical Playdek polish and I tend to prefer the Dominion-style deck building over the Ascension-style. I probably won’t be rushing out to re-purchase the game, but if it turns out to be competently done I may consider it.
Remember the Penny Arcade one they did too?
I liked the Penny Arcade game also. What was the one that had the dark theme and the card piles were arrayed in like a semi-circle in front of you on the board? I remember really liking that one.
Nightfall?
Yeah, that was it. I liked that game.
I remember there were testicle monsters in it, so it was always a tossup between Penny Arcade and Tanto Cuore for which game I didn’t want people to see me playing…
I also really liked the Penny Arcade game. Too bad they couldn’t add the expansion to it.
