Gems of War News and Discussions

I think 6 PvP matches a week is not a huge imposition. That is a time investment of probably less than 30 minutes a week.

Just as an aside, is two mythic drops ( I got the same one twice) unlucky by level 400 or about what is expected if you put no money in? Or is there some way to improve it that I am not seeing? I face a lot of teams with multiple mythics and I feel like I am missing out.

All of my Mythics have come from Gem Chests for the most part.

These days I only open Gold Chests, to get rid of all of the keys we get from guild, on a regular basis

All of the other chests I only open when there is a news announcement of a new Mythic in some of the chests. I even save all gems for those announcements for Gem Chests.

Re: proposed GW rulesā€¦I am traveling from today until next Saturday with the family, and although limited, will still be able to check in daily in game.

So letā€™s give everyone this coming week to weigh in, but most likely will take effect for Guild Wars week #3. This is plenty of notice that at least some participation is required.

To reiterate the proposal to anyone just finding their way here from the guild:

Proposed Rule: All members are required to play at least 6 Guild Wars matches a week.

Exceptions: Any member can come to this forum and let us know they will be out for a week for any reason.

The goal is to keep competitive enough that some of our most active guild mates donā€™t leave the guild, while not making it too difficult for people who really donā€™t like PvP or just donā€™t have time to play much.

ā€¦but not missing out in the guild wars!
youā€™re doing great, and i would like to assign you as TKKā€™s ā€œTop Research Specialist :mortar_board: for color specialized team designsā€! :+1:

and your TKK Top Score of 27,694 pts and no lost match is awesome!

has been an inspiration for me to try out different attack teams with at least 3-of-a-special-color approaches.
leaving the comfort zone of my sturdy regular team resulted in some exciting nailbiter matches. great fun.

kudos too to our rockinā€™ Band of 3 Tough Soldiers: @Falkenstein (15,697!), Cjcool and Malinda! impressive performances.

The Vanguard the true Backbone of the TKK Army!
a 24k and 3x 21k+ scores all over the Vanguard place :v:
way to go!

Heralds and Champions complete (just 1 player still missing) on duty now.
nice!

all in all we were doing great :sunglasses:
i really like this guild. i will never leave.

oh, back to your question, @Debris:
true generic Mythics are very rare drops indeed.
most of my troopers are ā€œnormalā€ homegrown Mythics.

I donā€™t know if it would be of value for people to post successful colour teams here. Here is what I used last week. All minions were fully traited and there are at least 3 minions of the correct colour for each team. You can probably see that I am a big fan of gem generation.

Yellow - Fail as I did the matches for the day before realising there was such a thing as colour bonuses

Purple - Dragon Soul, Kerberos, Giant Spider, Kerberos

Green - Wulfgarok, Forest Guardian, Wulfgarok, Druid

Blue - Celestasia, Krystenax, Dragon Soul, Borealis

Red - Jarl, Crimson Bat, Valkyrie, Mab

Brown - Gorgotha, Kerberos, Giant Spider, Kerberos

Edit: Is there only a guild war every second week?

The stated time to the next Guild War implies that ā€¦ if the official start day is a Monday. If the start day is a Tuesday (as seems ā€œmore correctā€) then ā€¦ ???

Thanks for team details ā€¦ I lack some key troops like Dragon Soul, Wulfgarok, Forest Guardian ā€¦ I guess I didnā€™t open chests at the right time or was unlucky. The Guild Wars prompts me to pay more attention ā€¦

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for, as Iā€™m short on time for building/experimenting right now, Now need to check if I have all troops and can trait them up.

Had a lot of fun in the games last week, managed to go 25/0 with no unit losses, but I had one nailbiter against Devourer/Kerberos/Kraken where all three managed to devour units, and it was my last Kraken against Devourer. Canā€™t wait to start next war tomorrow!

oh yes, i would have liked that too!
but no, dā€™oh.
guild wars only every other week. [EDIT: nonsense. i was wrong.]

now that we know it, we could think about raising the mandatory quota a bit?
10 or 12 guild war games in a guild war week? [EDIT: so just forget about that.]

but i think thatā€™s not really the problem anyway.
players who took part in the GW seemed to have fun and to like playing the games.

problem is that the other half of the guild does not know about guild wars or does not play at all.
and no easy way to communicate with them.

@JammaTal
Guild war IS every week. It can be a bit confusing in which guild wars tab you look. But some guildmembers played already a few games today.

yes, i had noticed in the meantime :flushed:

well, then just forget what i said about ā€œraising mandatory quotaā€.
no reason for that.

Last week and this week are grace periods. We cannot make people check chat. I have been trying to make sure everyone has time to know that they might find themselves without a guild. But at the end of Guild Wars week three, yesā€¦there are some people who are surprised to find themselves guildless. But hopefully, replaced with people who check chat, or at least play some.

Those are really nice teams, Debris, thanks for the post!

For myself, I lost one match last week where I failed to adequately ā€œcounterā€ the opposing troops, so with my more limited options and my amateur matching skills Iā€™ve been working more towards trying to counter and then work in the colors as I can, usually two is the most I can work in with confidence, but will stretch to three when I can. For example, for Red last week when facing a Bone Dragon team I was able to use Hellcat, Alchemist, Goblin Rocket, Goblin Rocket, which I was also able to use a bit today for Yellow, since it was not only 3 red but also 3 yellow. It is not fast but it has worked for me against appropriate opponents. :sunglasses:

Red - Hellcat, Alchemist, Goblin Rocket, Goblin Rocket
Yellow - Hellcat, Alchemist, Goblin Rocket, Goblin Rocket

For my last opponent today, the top tough high point match, I felt I had to unfortunately drop down to just one Yellow to beat what looked like an intimidating Scale Guard Naga poison team, so I was trying to work in poison resistance and true damage, as well as some mana stealing. With the yellow troops that I had available Gorgotha was the only one that came to mind that I felt confident enough to put on the team, which I suppose is one of the reasons that Guild Wars is so interesting, trying to fight teams that are tougher that I usually would pass on in PvP, while trying to mix my available troops with the preferred color of the day. I wanted to put Shadow Dragon in there, but just didnā€™t feel confident doing it.

in this Naga bonus week these Scale Guard defenses (most seen is Scale Guard/Scale Guard/Naga Queen/Scale Guard) are tough nuts to crack.
they can kill Gorgotha in 2 turns. just a frightening exampleā€¦

i suggest our whole guild should switch to these as Guild War Defenders.
imagine you had to play one Naga/Poison team after the other :flushed:

letā€™s do it!

kudos to Debris, MadManDan and Kennfusion for achieving amazing scores again. i really wonder how to win vs this last Scale Guard defense with a 4x-in-yellow team?
Debris and MadMan must have done it this way. at least with 3 yellow troopers in that last battle.

The naga teams have a big weakness, I think, in that troops with poison resistance neutralize their damage. The giant spider is a great troop to use against them if you have the spider swarm traited to be immune to poison. Endless swarms to eat up the scale guard attacks.

There are quite a few other troops out there with either impervious or immune to poison like carnex and bone dragon which really reduces the effectiveness of the scale guards also.

and could you do it with 4 yellow troops?

even without special double damage multiple Scale Guards are often loaded up with one spell ignition of Naga Queen.
with only 8 mana to fill but 37 ā€œnormalā€ spell damage and 35 attack they are nasty enough.

hahaha, i just totally fumbled my attack vs that Naga team.
by a mistouch when trying to switch up the app to close it down, i must have come into contact with the ā€œTo Battleā€ touch area and so started that fight and had to go with whatever team on duty.
it wasā€¦my new Naga defense team which i had taken through some test battles just before.
it was ok. i won the mirror fight easily butā€¦NO SINGLE YELLOW TEAM MEMBER :flushed: :confounded: :weary:
that hurts.

I didnā€™t try it (seer and infernal king not traited) but maybe

infernal king, manticore, manticore, green seer

might work as a yellow team. manticore to reduce mana and green seer to reduce attack and reload manticores. First troop is going to die most likely so I looked for one with resurrect. It is hard to know without testing it though.

Iā€™d love to hear more thoughts on anti-poison teams, especially during Naga bonus week, since I can no longer avoid them as I used to before Guild Wars.

Who do you prefer to use your Giant Spider with, Debris? Perhaps to feed Psion, Shadow Dragon, or Mist Stalker (I like that Mist Stalker canā€™t be targeted with Stealthy traited)? I figure it would be hard for the Spider Swarms to kill the enemy team on their own so would want a Purple to lean on for using Giant Spider.

Sometimes I wish for 5 slots instead of 4, but then that 5th troop would have a hard time getting mana so 4 is likely the sweet spot for gaming!

I had thought of putting Shadow Dragon in there somewhere, but wasnā€™t as keen on the random enemy targeting, but the real kicker was my opponent had the Poison Master and I didnā€™t want the Shadow Dragon feeding him Purple matches. Facing a defensive team without Poison Master might be a good one to squeeze in Shadow Dragon?

I donā€™t have Mab traited out, but did use a Jarl, Crimson Bat, Moloch, Mist Stalker, giving me four Reds and a True Damage focus to take me to the final top tough high point match, which for my opponent is all Scale Guards. Will be back later to consider my options but am open to suggestions.

I do hate facing Famine, at the end of my last match poor Jarl was just a shell of himself after Aspect of Famine, ā€œFirst enemy loses 3 Skill points at the start of each turn.ā€ That Jinx, ā€œHalve enemy Gem Masteriesā€, is no joke, either, Iā€™d use Famine if I had him!

I hastily tried to put a team together before we headed out to Epcot this morning to deal with the 4x Scale Guard final fightā€¦and it literally came down to one on one and both under a single skull hit, and he just landed the lucky skull fall before I did.

We all have to fight the 4x Scale Guard if we make it to the 5th battle today. The way it seems to work is that in each round you play a random opponent from that rank. So your first opponent is always one of the Soldiers, 2nd is a random Vanguard, 3rd is randomly one of the 5 Heralds, 4th is one of the two Champions, and then the Paragon.

I did not even try to go 4 red on the Scale Guard, I thought I could get away with Carnex, Bone Dragon and Spirit Fox to star with, as the first two are immune to poison and the third cannot be targeted, and comes empowered with mana drain. Then I added Mercy to healā€¦but that was the mistake. He was still hitting for 30, and I needed more damage.

I had more ideas for an anti-Scale Guard team than I had traitstones to implement. I ended up going with the Giant Spider option to keep the throwaway Spider Swarms protecting my True Damage hitters, both of which were Purple to benefit from the Giant Spider transforming gems to Purple, as well as the Magic Link traits for bonus Purple (my understanding is the multiple Magic Link traits stack).

My anti-Scale Guard team: Gloom Leaf, Shadow Dragon, Mist Stalker, Giant Spider w/ Spider Swarm traited to Sturdy (Immune to Poison)

Gloom Leaf went down fast, as expected, Shadow Dragon got low before I was able to get the first Spider Swarm up, but after that I took my time so as not to make a mistake and was successful. I was glad to get two Red troops in there, but would have settled for one with the victory, heh! :sunglasses:
