The world events immediately made me think of GW2 as well.
Always online isnāt usually a problem for me on console and PC games. My problem with it here is that I like hardcore and being server and connection-reliant make playing hardcore a risky proposition.
I like that Borderlands 3 lets you choose if you want to go level scaling or not. It is the best of both worlds. If you want to carry someone it is fine, but for me who doesnāt enjoy doing that (or being carried) I like that the option is there to contribute on an even playing field where neither person is bored to death and/or gets crappy loot for low-level players since the current area is balanced that way.
So if there were no world events in D4 they might have gone the road of BL3 where you have the option to choose one way or the other, but for obvious monetary reasons (i.e. maximizing milking the crowd for cosmetic purchases) they did not.
This was a great post all around - I learned a ton I hadnāt known. Much appreciated.
I have really enjoyed it, but got to about level 30 in the first zone and wanted to see the story. So I have a done a beeline for the story now and getting close to wrapping it.
Will go back on my necro and methodically unlock everything in every world.
That said, I donāt know if I would do a new toon on a seasonal server and start from level 1, with nothing unlocked again. Really not sure how seasons will work hereā¦
Seasonal characters will start with the Altar of Lilith bonuses, skill and paragon boosts from renown, and the ability to skip the campaign. You will still have to level the character up, but youāll have a significant power boost at the start. Diablo 3 seasons had some decent themes that made them fun, and the D4 developers have promised more of a focus on seasons, so hopefully it will turn out well.
Well that sounds more like it!
I will start working through all of that once I finish the storyā¦. I have so few altars
I really had not thought much about level scaling in the game much, even when reading all of your notes above the last dayā¦until I met a boss fight in Act 3 I could not beat, and then could not figure out what to do, since I could not outlevel and am not really sure if you can outgear it or not.
Fortunately, I have been playing World Tier 2, and then remembered I could just drop down to Tier 1 and that allowed me to beat that encounter handily. Good thing I was not already playing on Tier 1.
Tier 1 has been a cakewalk. I think that is the design though?
Yes. If your character isnāt overpowered enough to one shot everything in World Tier 2, you should be playing World Tier 1. The small percentage of extra gold and experience doesnāt justify the added monster strength. The item drop rate remains the same. Switch to World Tier 2 when you are ready to take on the Capstone Dungeon after completing the campaign (should be around level 50).
So⦠I am now level 54. Finished the campaign and have all of the Altars to Lilith unlocked. Starting to work my way into Nightmare Dungeons for those I havenāt completed before and working through some quests.
Thoroughly enjoying, though the gear system remains a little tricky to me. I didnāt realise you canāt get an aspect back after you imprint itā¦. So I have a couple of strange items I canāt upgrade.
The glyphs seem interesting⦠so much random stuff I am just following guides at this stage. Nothing seems irreversible for skill pointsā¦
As a necro I am trying to both summon and do bone spear. Definitely not optimal, but I like minions. At some stage I am going to need to commit one way or another.
Had two uniques of the same type drop - 2 x Deathless Visage which means Bone spear is potent!
I am on a business trip right now, but Sunday morning I was playing some before my flight and was level 44 in a minimum level 45 dungeon - it was the first time I had seen that. Interestingly, I had been playing on World Tier 2, and then switched to WT1 based on @Strangiato note, and then fell behind the curve. That said, I was doing fine. I think I was near the end of the main story line in Act 6.
As a druid, I am having the same problem as you are with the necro - I like my summons, and I like my elemental skills. I am just trying to recreate that Hurricane/Bear feel from D2, but not quite getting there. So I keep changing up my skillset.
I loved my D2 Druid so I created a Druid for a static party with some friends. Iāve only played the intro storyline so am level 6 or so, but I absolutely love the smooth and instant transitions between forms. Combat is much more dynamic and interesting as a shifter this time around.
I also completely agree that it is going to be difficult to not want to pepper in elemental spells. Thank goodness for respecs so I can try it all out. I remember back when I played D2 there was no respecing so you had to chose a path and stick with it.
Iām enjoying Twilight Struggle: Red Sea, but have to say that itās a strange design decision to not have players switch sides on the header like in the regular TS. Took me a while to realize that I might be USSR but on the US side of things!
Also obviously loving D4; Iām level 50 barb and about to tackle the capstone dungeon on tier 2. Started as a whirlwind bard (obv) but have switch to a rend bleeding build, which seems to be better for taking down bosses et al and is less dependent on aspects etc. As with D3, I definitely think Iāll get a lot of mileage out of this game.
Also, sorry Call of Duty MW2, I knew ye well.
Iād be willing to bet every single barb started as a WW barb. When they give you what was previously your level 30 ultimate signature skill virtually right at the start of the game, youāre going to put points in itā¦
For some reason I started playing Among the Stars again. The app is well-polished, the simple drafting is entertaining, and the campaign mixes things up enough that Iāve enjoyed working through each puzzle. Too bad Cublo support is non-existent because there is a solid app here.
Cublo seems down as company.
Brass abandoned. support not existing any more.
I liked Brass.
Took me years to figure out how to playā¦
it was definitely one of the best and deepest boardgame apps out there.
a great loss.
i was shocked to lose Agricola.
but i was even more shocked to lose Brass.
