I played it. It was fun apart from the lag I experienced in the main town. I only played Diablo 1 so all of the different systems were very confusing so I just copied a build online that looked fun. I played an exploding corpse necromancer build. It destroyed groups of enemies easily but single target bosses were a pain because you didn’t really have a supply of corpses to explode. I’m not sure how I felt about the “live service” aspect of the game. Seemed kind of pointless to me.
I played them a bit out of order; Diablo 1 as a teen on the PS1, then 3 a few years ago, and I finished 2 Resurrected on the Switch a couple months ago. Near as I can tell, the series peaked with 1 and became a lot more of a brainless lootfest and hackandslashery bonanza the further on it went. Couldn’t likely generate much interest for 4, I imagine.
Yes, both weekends. Played every class to at least level 20.
I really enjoyed it. Some classes worked better than others, but I feel that will be resolved in the final release when characters can level much higher. There were some issues with transferring between zones, but that is also something they should be able to get corrected for launch. There’s a solid foundation here, certainly in a much better state than Diablo 3 started off in. I was a fan of how seasons were handled in D3 once the expansion was released, so I’m looking forward to what the content cycle will bring for this game.
I played the Druid to 20, and thought it was really nice, enough so that I pre-ordered the game.
For solely my sake, you’re supposed to say the game reeks and they couldn’t pay you enough money to play it.
I played both weekends of the beta and really enjoyed it. It seems to have kept what made 3 fun but brought back the darker, more mature flavors of 2. tbh, it’s diablo. If you enjoy the hack and slash and min-max gameplay, you’ll love it. If you don’t, you won’t. (spoiler: you will)
I have the same issue, never got the physical to the table so far, but I’ve only recently purchased it and have not tried hard enough, I suppose, with my gaming group.
Actually, I think the whole idea of this particular game lives from social interaction between the players and maybe discussions about moral ambiguous decisions you have to make. I understood it to be more of an experience than a game in the classical sense. That enjoyment would be lost to me if I played against the AI, so I am currently not even considering this game on a computer. But I am interested to hear if anyone has made a different experience.
Brotato came out on mobile yesterday. I know it was recommended as a good Steam Deck game a while back, and it fits very well on mobile. Completely ridiculous game, in a good way.
And it is on sale on iOS for $3.49.
Wait, what? Since when is that an app price?
That’s the new $2.99.
Brotato scaling is way off on my iPad. Menu options are cut off quite a bit. The “camera” doesn’t follow you when you reach the extreme left and right edges of the playfield so you’re character can actually go beyond the edge of your screen. I played 1 game before I had enough. Hopefully they fix this soon.
Passing on Diablo for now I settled on Titan Quest with my son (since Torchlight doesn’t have local multiplayer for some reason). The core design is great and character builds are varied and fun but the game is clunky and messy on consoles. I definitely miss the smoothness of Diablo. We may play Tiny Tina’s Wonderland next and then on to Diablo 3 (since like Torchlight, Diablo 2 doesn’t have local multiplayer).
Played a ton of TQ back in the day on PC. Seriously enjoyed it and beat it on a couple of builds before moving on to Immortal Throne and then moved on again. I’ve got it on IOS just for nostalgia but haven’t really delved. Are the console devs the same as IOS as the limited play time I’ve had on IOS has me thinking a little dated but definitely playable?
I’ll have to double check but I do know there are also two versions on iOS.
As far as playing the PS4 version on a PS5, you’ve got graphical issues like significant frame drops in town and occasionally units that appear on screen show up as a big solid rectangle first before graphics are loaded. I can live with all that even though it is surprising that it hasn’t been fixed. Worse, though are the controls. Aiming is a nightmare so sometimes I’ll end up attacking an enemy nearly off screen while I’m getting pummeled by a couple right on top of me. There is also some input delay, which makes the game feel so much less responsive and snappy than other games in the genre.
I’m having a good enough time with my son that I’ll power through, and like I said the core game design is great, but the fact that this has splitcreen where some others don’t is the only thing keeping me going on it.
I believe the mobile and console versions were ported by different developers after the property was sold off by THQ. Some of the original developers moved on to create Grim Dawn.
After playing the Diablo 4 beta, I decided to revisit the franchise. Just finished Diablo 1. Now on to Diablo 2 Resurrected. Just bought the Prime Evil collection (D2 and D3) on sale now for $20 on Blizzard’s website. Any suggestions on starting class for D2? Don’t really care for most powerful build, just looking for something fun to play.
Of all the classes, I thought the assassin had one of the more interesting mechanics, with combo moves that applied marks to enemies and then finishers that proced those marks.
I was always partial to the druid. The bigger downside with him is that in a game where you are essentially playing paper dolls with your character, if you play a shapeshifter you won’t see yourself with your gear that often.
Necromancer has some fun builds.
I think my strongest character ever was an Amazon that specialized in spears. The skill that makes you strike three times really quick was my bread and butter.
Whirlwind Barbarian
Unless it was changed for Resurrected, you’ll see a lot of great gear for other classes, so be prepared to be tempted into creating several characters. And the first run through the campaign on Normal difficulty is just training wheels. The game doesn’t really begin until you start over on the second difficulty (should be around level 30).
What did you play Diablo 1 on?
I still love that one more than the others
I like barbs but I felt like with WW you could tape down the right button on your mouse and take a nap…
The barb’s leap ability is super nice in Act III.
