Yes, my best success against him has been with quick decks.
My first run was Hunter using a bunch of Cranium Strike which causes jinx, backed up invasion and high damage ambush card (triple damage, +2 green next battle if you kill).
The jinx meant I never got threatened really.
Second run was knight using heaps of virtues / yellow cards, which meant I had some amazing buffs and steady damage from upgraded swords (0 cost, 2dmg 2 armour, but upgraded like 10 times each)
The other run I had got wiped by some guy that did 11 damage like 8 times in an attack. Obliterated me
Since the genre as a whole is popular around these parts I created a thread to move our Dawncaster - and other roguelike - discussion to.
Going to be a lot of this now, unless itās crash city.
Into the Breach. New teams, new monsters, new mission types, new equipment, new skills, same ooooooold sense of exquisite frustration as it puts you on the edge of solving another raft of maddening mad-chess-bastard puzzles. I love it, I hate it, take it away, bring it back.
Got my first Unfair win the other day. It was everything I wanted it to be. It was my first attempt, but even with a Conservative/Adrenaline Kai as my TT and a custom squad made up of Rocket Mech, the puncher from Rift Walkers and the new spider bot maker, even with all that going for me, it was a nightmare. Went to just one grid left more than once. Lost multiple pilots. From first to last, the danger of losing it all was constant and suffocating. It was so beautiful.
I have picked up FF XIV again the past week. I had started playing just before Shadowbringers had come out and played through about 20% of Shadowbringers before burning out. So 18 months later picked up where I left off and am just about done with Shadowbringers. I just bought Endwalker, but with a new POE season starting next week, I will probably take a break for that.
I also have been messing around with the Steam Deck some, testing different games with it. I discovered this weekend that I can if the Steam Deck is on, and my Desktop iMac has Steam open, I can launch PC only games off of the Steam Deck without going into Boot Camp. I only tried it with a couple turn based games like Monster Train, but it worked well. Full keyboard and mouse control from the iMac.
FFXIV is by far and away the best MMORPG ever. I love that game, though I am currently not playing.
Fixed that for you
Joking aside I always wanted to try out FF XIV but my Backlog doesnāt permit itā¦too many games, not enough timeā¦
GW2 is also great, as is GW1. If you havenāt played FFXIV I can completely support your ranking.
I have not played GW2 in years. I think around Mid-Pandemic I downloaded it and brought up my old Necromancer and was completely lost about what to do and I think I just uninstalled.
I think I would actually have to start a new char to try it again.
But what I love about FF14, is that in other MMOs I ignore the story for the most part. I could not tell you hardly any lore in WoW, and I am mostly caught up (I have not done the couple most recent raids.) But for the most part, I ignore the story and just kind of play through because I like my Demon Hunter. But FF14, I play just for the story. The fact that it is an MMO is kind of secondary.
Speaking of GW2, I just read it will be on Steam on Aug 23. So I might see about checking it out again sometime in the next month or so.
Be careful, the Steam Launcher is NOT compatible with the original Launcher. You cannot move over from one to the other. In other words: Playing on Steam means a new purchase of GW2 (if you donāt play the Free-to-play Version)
Ok baby its ranting timeā¦
I dread the Steam Launch of GW2. Fresh blood is good, but the (admittedly a bit arcane growth of GW2 over the past 10 years and the) trash-review culture of nowadays could (will) lead to negative publicity.
Oh? Steam shows only XXX concurrent players? Dead game! (Doesnāt factor in the millions of non-steam accounts)
All in all, I think GW2 doesnāt benefit from a Steam release now as much as for example a WoW or FF14 does. The game is out for 10 years and since it isnāt a massively popular cultural event the other two are (were) and it struggled quite a bit in the clickbait-driven press the last decade to find any traction at all it could lead to potential doom-posts and articles just because most people nowadays donāt care to research a game for themselves for longer than 10 seconds with a passing cursory glance over steam reviews, player count and frontpage of relevant subreddit.
If it isnāt clear already I am a massive fan and biased as heck. It doesnāt impact my enjoyment if others donāt like the game as much as I do. It does however impact if they trump up a non-controversy out of ignorance or idiocy and it impacts the long-term plans of ArenaNet.
The Diablo Immortal āDonāt you guys have phones?ā debacle has impacted several projects over dozens of different game studios. It is heavily implied that ArenaNet had plans for several mobile titles and they were all forcibly scrapped from top-to-bottom after the South-Korean Overlords of ArenaNet (NCSoft) reevaluated the future of the premium mobile game market in the west after that Blizzcon. 3 Projects (that we know of, including a non-mobile game codenamed Arrakis (ARRAKIS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!)) were trashed and a third (120ish people) of the studio were laid off.
The game suffered much for it since it was coming from a quite well-received expansion to the end of a major plot point in between expansions. They shifted gears and focus several times and just had an (again relative) successful third expansion half a year ago after trudging through some very weird content drought due to the layoffs and the refocussing/shifting gears on top of a global pandemic.
A Steam Launch now that the expansion is out is a good idea on paper at least. However only if they are on a good footing against their south-Korean owners. If them idiots over there again get the wrong idea over a botched or nontroversy-laden steam launch it might spell the end for my favorite game of all timeā¦
Wow, what a fan! I really respect GW2, but I never entirely clicked with it. Maybe I deserve to spend some more time with it.
Humble has a turn-based bundle happening that seems like a pretty nice deal to me on some games Iāve been interested in but never went for. Because I have too much of a backlog that this will not help!
Didnāt know humble was still aboutā¦
Looks like they removed the $1 move
Really liking Symphony of War - be Philip something or other.
Srpg, with ogre battle style squads. Seems fun so far!
I see Ark Nova continues its meteoric rise up bgg ranking⦠fingers crossed they make it an app!
Soā¦. For some reason and in a moment of weakness, I decided that I would hand in my WoW and trade it forā¦. MTG Arena. There is a new set releasing on 1 September so I bought the battle pass and the pack pre-order, thinkingā¦. This will keep me interested in a single game for three months.
WTF was a I thinking? Anywaysā¦. Might have to start a weekly thread as I burn through my resources and spending and get max āvalueā from the pass.
