If you live someplace with winter and it gets you down, the first third of this game was the next best thing to a Caribbean getaway for me.
Hmmā¦.how did the last third of the game treat you I wonder? ![]()
Subterfuge is out on Steam and is cross-platform with the ios app, which is already around since 2015(!). Dusting off my diplomacy/backstabbing skills and preparing for my first game since many yearsā¦
This is one I wanted to get in to more but I never made it past the tutorial. For one thing, it was pretty expensive back in the day to gain access to things like private invites and another thing is that I think this is for bigger groups than 3ā¦
Itās now 10 euro on Steam and you can create private games. Number of players is 2-10, but of course more players means more fun because of the diplomacy involved.
Itās probably realistic, but my tanks die way too quicklyā¦
Subterfuge is excellent - but it can be too all-consuming with players waking in the night to take actions. I had some lovely and engrossing games with the (then) Quarter To Three crowd. I did not wake in the night but I did think about the game a lot of the time.
In 2015 Pocket Gamer described it as āA beautifully designed life ruinerā. But it could clearly have evolved in the past 11 years ā¦
I did wake in the middle of the night to take actions in a couple of games and stopped playing as a result. But I remember thinking the game was excellent; it just wasnāt for me.
Not sure if subterfuge has it, but games like it sometime have ātick-modesā if I recall the name right. Makes it more turn based instead of real time, so better for sleep. The game progresses an x amount of time after everybody has completed their moves.
Before Subterfuge I used to play Neptuneās Pride 2. It doenst have the specialists from subterfuge, but interaction is encouraged a bit more because of the tech trading. There is a bit more room for role playing because of the different alien avatars.
I got the itch to play these types of games a year ago and found out there is another game: Solaris. That open source game is tru hardcore. More like subterfuge with specialists you can hire for your space vessels. More depth. But communication isnāt ingame only. Discord is used a lot with different temporally alliances, sharing of pictures of the map and other Intel. Game is good, but the discord stuff didnāt appeal to me.
Beat Elden Ring, both the DLC and base game. Used a dex / arcane bleed build and Eleonoraās Poleblade carried me throughout the game except for the Elden Beast, whoās immune to bleed. Switched to the Sword of Night for him and ended the game at level 205.
Loved my time in the lands between; started ng+ and absolutely slaughtered the first two bosses before deciding I needed a break from it.
Time to finish Clair Obscur and also just picked up Witchfire in early access, which is a first person shooter set in a fantasy type world and incorporates some Arc Raiders leave before the portal closes stretch your luck mechanics. Fun so far but have only spent an hour or so with it.
Finished CO33 last night.
Not ashamed to admit I cried at the end.
Bravo, Sandfall. Easily one of the best games Iāve ever played.
As a life-long JRPG and specifically Final Fantasy fan Iāve wanted to play this for some time and simply havenāt gotten around to it. I did just finish Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, though, so Iāll probably look to CO33 as my next big time sink, though thatās likely not happening for a little while.
Speaking of emotional scenes, I donāt think the big moment in FFVII hit the same in Rebirth but musically, āAerithās Themeā still goes straight into my soul and they used the music really well in Rebirth.
I canāt recommend it enough, especially if youāre a fan of JRPGs. I literally canāt stop thinking about it, and Iām having a hard time finding something new to play because I keep comparing them all to CO33.
They cite FFX as one of the big influences iirc.
