Oh god… hype me more
This is a tad late but in preparation for the soon™ launch of Homeworld 3 I am running through my second favorite PC game franchise again. I ALSO had a problem with the Launch of HW: Deserts of Kharak BUT I left it on “not responding” after clicking START (on Steam) and went for an “I am very frustrated” bowel movement instead of panic-clicking or killing the process in task manager. It took me a while but after I returned the game was on the Start screen. After that, I started it several times without problems (it still takes about half a minute or so in “not responding Nirvana”).
Sure you may have another problem altogether with your gog version but this seems like something I encountered a lot before on other games. They try to run some garbo-junk launcher or whatever, cannot get it to work and after twiddling their silicon thumbs for a while shrug and start the next process in line (which is the fallback(?) solution and in this case the original executable?) I don’t care for MP so I have not tested it out if that is now disabled, however.
Sounds unconvincing? Yeah, I understand…but I have anecdotal evidence (glares at Stellaris and other paradox interactive-published games in general)
Next time I feel like getting frustrated I’ll download it and let it sit for a while.
For some reason, on my PC iTunes takes about 5 minutes to open so I guess Homeworld Deserts may be the same.
Newly addicted to Hero Realms for a while. I came across @TheDukester there by chance. Great game.
Solid game and solid app. I prefer Hero Realms at the table to Star Realms, but they latter is still the better app.
Really? I have close to 20k games now in Star Realms app, but I think the newer Hero Realms app is much better. I was talking to them about the apps at Pax East last month, and the only reason they have not migrated the Star Realms app to the Hero Realms build is that it would be a huge undertaking and probably not pay off.
I love both games, but Hero Realms has been my fav lately, and I especially like how the digital game is progressing beyond the card game with new heroes.
It’s more that Star Realms had so much more content.
Don’t get me wrong, Hero Realms is great.
Has anyone else splurged on the Fleet Command Edition of Homeworld 3?
I am usually opposed to this 3-day Headstart nonsense-designed-to-milk-you-dry-edditions but who am I kidding? I gladly threw money at this as I did all the years back then for the 3-day Headstart into Guild Wars 2…and I am happy… thrilled to play a new chapter in the Homeworld Saga again finally. I just finished my rerun trough the entire series in chronological order (HW: Deserts of Kharak, HW1, HW: Emergence / HW: Cataclysm (a.k.a. known as HW 1.5), and HW2. Was HW2 always this bone-crunching hard? I still think that fleet scaling was a mistake.
I am giddy with excitement while preparing to play Homeworld 3 this weekend. I am very curious about the “Roguelike” mode they implemented as well. I am a sucker for the genre, and combining it with HW3 is possibly a match made in heaven?
If anyone wants to catch up to the Homeworld setting/lore/backstory, the ever-diligent Templin Institute made a great Video summarizing everything of note which should help old/new fans of the franchise to get up to speed with the franchise.
Is anyone playing Mind over Magic? I thinks it’s still in early access. I bought and then refunded it on steam. I didn’t have the time to learn it at the moment and my kids got me to play spell caster university with them instead.
If you have player, any good?
I did and I massively regret it. Homeworld 3 has been an incredibly disappointing experience for me, except for the astroid field mission.
Hated the story and the bad CGI it was “brought to life” in, hated the linear tech tree, hated how small the levels were, hated the roguelike coop mode. I wish I’d just given up on it before 2 hrs so I could’ve still refunded the £70.
Into the Breach grabbed me once more. I’m never truly free of it. Still no 40k runs but I at least managed to beat it on 4 island Unfair with a couple more squads. My Conservative/Thick Skin Kai serves me well, but if I want to make a go of it with some of the remaining groups I haven’t beaten Unfair with, I may have to ditch her for a good Kaz. Damage boosting doesn’t help with ones where the bot has no damage-dealing weapons.
Oh, and both my girls are doing separate runs of KotOR with me. It’s quite fun seeing how different their choices are. They know nothing about the big twist, either. So that should be enjoyable.
I am not all too over the moon either, however, I do not entirely have the same gripes you have.
I QUITE like the CGI and think the Rooguelike mode is neat. I however am a bit miffed about the gameplay (difficulty overall and AI behavior) and the rampant meltdown the game is initiating inside my rig. I know this is a self-inflicted wound since I don’t upgrade my PC often (the build was 1 year out of date when the pandemic hit). And usually play no AAA stuff on PC only on console. HW3 is the most intensive resource burner I had the pleasure of running on my rig in 5 years. I don’t get it. I KNOW for a fact that the past 5 years have been unkind for PC games and ports (Unreal stutter struggle, optimization, and QA in times of pandemic and work from home), but I am quite PUZZLED how THIS kind of game can be such a hog.
Therefore I have put it on the log in the hope of better optimization down the line, it DID arrive for HW DoK and the Remastered HW Collection in time. That is if it arrives at all after the colossal Harakiri of [censored also censored by god sure this is censored as well] Embracer Group has thrown thousands of employees and dozens of dev studious in turmoil…the HW franchise license was in peril after THQ went belly up…now that Gearbox is on the chopping bloc as well I fear for the future of the franchise yet again…
Anyways…since HW3 has not delivered (yet for me)… let us hope for my other hope on this front…
Falling Frontier seems to be all that I REALLY wish for from a Space game aside from Story/Flair setting (which HW3 still nailed). More slow and “realistic” fighting. Does anyone remember Nexxus - the Jupiter Incident? That game nailed the “Realistic propulsion” (i.e. sloooOoowww) vibe really well.
I know why many call Falling Frontier the Expanse space RTS game but it seems much much more.
Yeah Falling Frontier has my hopes up for sure.
Picked up Reus 2 - will dig in to that on the weekend.
Absolutely adored their other stuff, Renowned Explorers is one of my most played. Godhood was also solid but is a little repetitive
Does anyone else ever have the Switch vs. Other Console dilemmas? I’m an RPG fan and part of what I love is exploring new worlds. For a big, grandiose game I’d chose to play on my PS5. But when I’m looking at games like Sea of Stars or Eiyuden Chronicles I become very, very torn between loving the idea of portability while also wanting to play on my “bigger, more mature” console.
You know the idiom “First World problem?” I think I just hit that nail on the head.
I have had that dilemma for years - going back to the PS2. I wanted one to play FF, but never did, sticking with Nintendo.
These days I still love the idea and nostalgia of a big jrpg - I buy them, but never play them. I have octopath traveller, the one about three houses (srpg not fire emblem), ffx, and I think another.
Can’t do it. Just cannot stay engaged enough to see it through to the end
I don’t have any other consoles, so I’ve eliminated this issue : ) I don’t have time to play everything I want to just on Switch, so adding another console would just make that problem worse for me as well.
This. I’d love to get into Baldur’s Gate again or something big and rich like that, but I barely have time to play, let alone learn the world and mechanics.
Even with the time to do it, I struggle to get into anything big and meaty any more. I play deck-building roguelikes, Diablo stype Isometric ARPGs, and auto-battlers (hearthstone battlegrounds, backpack battles, etc) and that is about it.
Even Civ - I start a game, and once we get to the point where we have settled all the land on my main continent, I get bored. I only do quick session gaming now - 30-40 minutes is my attention span I think.
Oh and a lot of asynchronous games - Star Realms, Hero Realms, Ascension, Dominion, I have a half dozen or more of all of those going at any given time.
Just hit level 100 in D4 with my bone spear necro. Testament to the faster leveling process, as this is the first I’ve hit 100. Now to just get the damn shield I need to drop….
