What are you playing?

I’ve been seeing news trickle in for this summer’s FFXIV expansion and I decided to try and jump back in for a bit. The operative word here is “try” because I haven’t played in about a year and I have no idea what I am doing. I do not remember any of my rotations at all. I may play my 80 DNC to get back into the swing of things but even that rotation is a mystery. Ah well. Time for some fun.

Edit: I got my dancer rotation up and it is pretty straightforward. Ran one dungeon and had fun. I’ll have to mess around with all my 90s to re/learn them. SMN might prove a little confusing at first.

The Dancer rotation though is fairly straight forward and mostly lights up and tells you what to hit next, so it’s a good choice for getting back into the game.

Exactly. That’s why I went with it. From what I remember it is the easiest rotation in the game and is pretty tough to screw up. Also, your most important skills for the party aren’t even part of the main rotation so you just fire them off when they’re ready.

But now I also remember that DNC can get a little boring. Oh well, it will reintroduce me to the 80-90 stuff well enough.

Except in '68!

Ok, I finished it, and I was roped right back in, Pacino-style, despite my griping. I had to laugh, though, because at two different points during the ending I had a weapon inappropriately show up during a 3rd person cutscene and float around my character’s elbow. Sigh. Anyway, I found the experience worthwhile, more or less. I must have…very few games get me to play that long.

@Snotty128 I wonder if the passage of time has led to the “meme” as you call it. I notice threads from a couple years ago are overall much more critical about the game. Recent discussions are totally Kool aid drinkers, and I can only wonder if that’s because everyone else has moved on and only they and Johnny Silverhand come latelies like me remain.

A friend of mine has been playing it recently and commented that it had much improved since he last played it “a couple of years ago.”

I’m sure it has, but it’s still got bugs galore, and there’s only so much you can do to “improve” what is by now fairly basic and uninspired gameplay. Still, like I said, great presentation!

Been on a Spirit Island digital run lately, just going through single handed spirits/boards. My brain is on fire to say the least, but gee is it an amazing game. How they created a game with so much depth, dynamics, difficulty adjustment, and replay-ability is just incredible to me.

I’ve always wanted to give it a go but haven’t felt up to it.

I’m also slightly turned off by the price. I know it’s basically a free demo but I hate subscriptions so I feel like if I enjoy the game I’m looking at a $20 price tag, which is a lot for a board game.

Edit: Just looking at the game again unnoticed that there is DLC for Horizons, which is the intro version of the game with more basic gameplay. I might be interested in that as an into to the game and the price point is more reasonable. Does anyone know if you need the full version to take advantage of Horizions? Or could I play Horizons without the full game?

Fully agree with @Shadowfax thoughts about Spirit Island digital. Personally however I’m hopeless playing with most of the spirits outside of Horizons. Horizons at least proved to me I was capable of winning more than the occasional game. I did purchase it on IOS after the full game but I believe you can purchase and play Horizons by itself without having the full base game IAP.

Hey RPG fans, any impressions on SE’s Voice of Cards games? I was thinking about trying out the series on iOS.

I for myself had a very hard time getting into Spirit Island, but once I dedicated a good amount of effort into learning the game, I had a blast. You really need about a week of daily playing an hour or two, until it starts fitting all together.

It is but really a test to one‘s frustration tolerance in the beginning.

I also must say, that I haven’t played for nearly a year now, and although hearing you guys talk about it really triggers me to play it again, there is another side in me who is too lazy (busy) to dedicate that much brain energy to this game now.

It is an amazing brain burner of a game. Difficulty scalability is high. Mastered all the different spirits and their unique abilities? Then throw in adversaries and spice up with scenarios. How far down the rabbit hole did you fall? I’ve got to adversaries with moderate success with the spirits from Horizons but I’m struggling with lesser success with the spirits from the base game and Branch and Claw.

I played all spirit that were available back then, first vanilla, then I added Prussia as adversary. I did not try other adversaries or scenarios until now.
The feeling of reward is very high, but it needs dedication

Has anyone played Shortest Trip to Earth? It’s on a GOG sale and has been on my list for a while, and I trust everyone here more than the rando reviewers online, obviously. In this vein, I tried The Captain a couple months back on Switch, but really bounced after an hour or two.

Also on the GOG sale is Fell Seal, which was noted recently on this thread.

We recently moved from our dream house on a golf course to be closer to my 87 year old dad. I had been playing at least a round a week, plus walking the course and practicing chipping and putting on the green beside our yard. After the move, I looked into what it would take to build an in-home simulator. Budget and space constraints prevent me from putting in a hitting bay with a launch monitor, so I looked at virtual options. With a Meta Quest 3, Golf+ app, and a golf club controller adapter, I figured I could have a fun gaming experience. Well, I played 36 holes yesterday, including a round at Pebble Beach. Screenshots and videos don’t really come close to conveying what the gameplay is like, but it was truly amazing. Even got a hole-in-one! (On “Novice” settings just to try it out, but still a surprise.) Here are some in game pics:

I also downloaded Asgard’s Wrath 2, but Golf+ will keep me satisfied for a while.

That’s awesome.

I’ve still never tried VR but I really want to.

How can there be a SE game or games with so few reviews? That’s very weird.

Not just SE, but Yoko Taro as well.

The game seems pretty niche. From what I can gather, the first one is pretty short and simple and they improve with each release (there are 3). I may give it a go soon. I’ll let you know what I think.
