Spoiler - this reaffirms that after two decathlons with this game I still don’t know what I’m doing. Shockingly, I was red.
Thank you. Good game!
Good game! You ran away from us early and didn’t look back…
Well played, @JammaTal! I really had a hard time figuring out the game mechanics or a viable strategy, but it wouldn’t have made a difference anyway. Pretty brutal spanking, honestly.
What a close and competitive race! We get dropping the cotton market to zero and I made some calculation errors at the end of canal that left me high and dry.
In rail era I realised I had a chance to double shipyard but needed to control two shipyard spots, and calculate my cash to the dollar.
I guarded the ship spots by building out the node before, and thankfully someone dropped a coal mine, meaning I could pay one less credit for a cop in turn 8.
End result? Last action of the game was a shipyard, and I ended the match on precisely zero quid.
Great game team!
for still learning the game you displayed a good understanding of the basic concepts and made some good moves.
in fact i got the impression to play against two players who had already played some games before.
i’m still sure that it’s the case for @Schlotzky, but i’m surprised that you are still in the learning phase.
it was a pretty good performance!
you will see that the curve goes up quickly in your next games and your playing strength will keep growing
Was a good game for sure. That was only my second non-bot game playing Brass. Seems like a really cool game that I need a lot more practice on.
Good game to you and @HostileApostle
It was super frustrating for me, as I had a plan to dominate Cotton and it would have worked if the cotton market had not crashed super early. Since I was all in on Cotton, I knew I should have tried to pivot in the rail age, but I just don’t know the game well enough to know how to adjust.
I think it was on turn 6 of the rail age we were in a 3 way tie, and I probably should have just started buying rail.
“all-in on cotton” can make you vulnerable. you’ll need some ports too.
you can overbuild own ports (and btw own industries too) later in the game to sell more cotton. you’ll need good timing (like double turns) for that, as others could use your ports as well.
the good railroads (6 pts and the one and only 7 pts) have a great investment/VP ratio, but only if the coal price isn’t too high.
… there’s a cotton market?
I haven’t played Castles of Burgundy in years, but got through the tutorial and a practice game. Forgot how spectacular this game was.
Table 4: @geigerm, @JHTaube, @johnl
Just checking in since you are the last table remaining for Brass - everything running smoothly?
Yup–we’re about halfway through the rail phase (1 player left on turn 5). I think our free time just doesn’t overlap very much, so we’re each getting in 1-2 turns a day.
Thanks for the update. I assumed it would take us a good month to get through this one, so no worries on your pace. Enjoy those juicy final rounds!
Thanks for the kind compliments!
Table 4 is done:
geigerm 167
@johnl 145
@JHTaube 128
My cotton/port strategy worked out well in the end. Good game, guys!
Good game!
