Stately Play Decathlon 2021

The only thing reminding me to check my Brass game is you guys posting about not getting notifications. :unamused:

I check fairly frequently out of a need to end my misery. I don’t know what I’m doing.

Really fun game - I got out to an early lead, ran out of money and clung on for dear life at the end!

You’re being modest, @feederofgoats! This was more than your average ā€œearly leadā€! :stuck_out_tongue:

You were absolutely right about it being a really fun game though - particularly the Rail Era where the middle rounds really seemed like it was anyone’s game. Overbuilding, track blocking, multiple cotton shipments in one turn - great stuff!

Table 1:
Hardco 197
@SpiceTheCat 174
@KYakerDude 161

I’m no expert at this game, but I stuck to the standard advice of don’t build level 1 industries and don’t build canals. By the end I ran out of Cotton Mills, Ironworks and Coal Mines, and had to use my last action to build a 1 point link!

Good game everyone!

Not sure what table, but @jason1002 (red) over @whovian223 (purple) and @Mirefox (yellow)

Basically put on a clinic.

Good game!

That was an excellent game, with close scores through a lot of the game, thanks both @Hardco and @KYakerDude. I was bitten by the risk you run with a ports-and-shipyard strategy, specifically not drawing any shipyard, Birkenhead or Barrow cards for the entire rail phase. Once it was clear that @Hardco’s mills were going to take the day, I started looking for ways to tread on @KYakerDude’s fingers for second place.

Brass is an awesome game. Maybe it’s time for another tournament.

Clearly you both knew what you were doing. I was just bumbling along building canals and had no strategy. The second phase didn’t give me many useful cards. I wanted to build shipyards but couldn’t get access to the locations.
Fun game.

That’s how I played. I don’t understand why I can or can’t build at certain times and I ended up playing the game like I would play Tocket to Ride, lol…

Looks like a hard-fought game - and I’m going to have to check what I said about tie-break rules for seeding the next round!

Congrats @jason1002 on the big score! And at least @Mirefox didn’t have to suffer for long and had fun building some railroads… :stuck_out_tongue:

If it helps, I just randomed everyone with the same point total…

@hardco thanks - up to this point I’ve been using the rankings from last Decathlon, but with 4 games done in 2021 we have enough data that I can use number of wins and then head-to-head history to break ties pretty easily now. I just couldn’t remember off the top of my head how I was planning to do it when I wrote that last post. :wink:

you can tap on nearly everything to get useful help text and informations.
to see the ā€œdetailsā€ just tap on the shaded card.

or info like this will come up in other places, reminding you on the option to play two cards (forfeiting the second turn action).

Sigh. That would have been so nice to know, lol.

Table 7 has finished. Purple has won! (It wasn’t me, I was yellow)
@js619, @JaneHatke: I forgot which one of you was purple… :frowning:
