I’d be willing to bite on the Steam version just to have the armies if anyone else was game? @whovian223, fancy more than one at a time lol?

Let me think about whether I like the game well enough to drop another $11 on it. LOL

NH turned out to be such a miserable failure on iOS. Between Big Daddy’s and Portal, they pretty much covered the chapter called, “Every Wrong Move You Can Make.”

There’s no reason that game couldn’t have a lively, active community. That lobby should be full instead of having tumbleweeds bouncing through it.

Bah, I say. BAH!

I didn’t think Big Daddy’s version was the worst; it was just a product of its time, relying on GameCenter multiplayer instead of a dedicated server like Playdek showed was superior. Portal’s takeover just flushed it down the toilet.

They got off to kind of a slow start, especially with a multiplayer that relied on knowing the other guy’s email address. Even typing that is weird.

But, yes, it improved. And there were armies we are likely to never see again.

A big mistake (for both companies) was not taking the time to understand how people actually use game lobbies. So many NH players expect to play a real-time game … but not everyone. There was/is a dedicated group of players who prefer asynch.

That could have been handled with a simple on-off box when creating games. Like a 2-minute timer and a 2-day timer. Instead, players had to create games with titles like, “Fast players only!” and other nonsense. No one was happy.

(Having to name your games is another problem. The only benefit was seeing games with, like, “Game Namez R Dum.”

Ok, you convinced me.

I bought it, but it said I already had an account and I logged in without creating one.

So there must be some connection somewhere.

You and @robthomasson are showing in my friends list, so they are connected.

Weird. But I’m up for a game! Want me to invite you?

Is it just me or are there not any different armies than are in the iOS app?

Some of the other ones show up and you can look at them, but when you try to set up a game, they are locked still. And I don’t see a way to buy them if they are extra.

Weird! Yes please, but give me till Wednesday - I’m out of the office tomorrow and won’t be at my pc till then. Unless you want to try it and see if it shows up on iOS?

The Steam page had dlc for sale iirc

Ah, didn’t see that. Ok, bought (didn’t really expect to pay $20 for all this, but ok LOL)

Invited you to a game with a new faction. Did not show up in the app though.

I didn’t expect it too since the iOS app doesn’t have those factions

Yeah, it’s close, but they are definitely not identical.

The mobile app has Partisans; the Steam release does not.

But the Steam version has Sharrash and Uranopils; the mobile app does not.

(Also, I could be officially losing it: I would swear that I’ve played Sharrash on iOs. Like, I would put money on it. But it’s not there)

Sharrash used to be in the iOS app. When they switched from Big Daddy to Portal, a number of the armies that people previously bough were removed with promises that they would return, which to the best of my knowledge didn’t happen. I think we lost other armies like Neojungle, Doomsday Machine, Dancer…

Though now that I look at it, those armies are listed as DLC in the App Store description. Weird. I haven’t used the app for a while but I didn’t tbh ink they were ever out back in and the app hasn’t been updated in over a year.

If anyone tries it on Steam Deck, please report back. Thart’s how I’ll end up playing it.

There’s one review where a guy mentions “it works fine” … but I’d prefer to hear from a Stately Player.

Also, who am I kidding? I’ll get it, anyway.

I just did my setup in my game against @js619 and learned that unless you can somehow deactivate shortcuts, you can’t chat while it’s your turn. “F” is “Undo Action,” and whenever I typed an F in the chat, it undid my setup action! I’m sure other keyboard shortcuts would be activated while typing too, if they were relevant at the time.

Has anyone seen the game SOVL: Fantasy Warfare? I just stumbled across it on iOS and it looks like a tabletop miniatures game akin to Warhammer. The game is free, with $5 armies. I may have to give it a try sometime.

I’ve always wondered why there aren’t more (any?) tabletop miniature-style games on iOS apart from the boatloads of money they make in stores. With enforced rules and the ability to pay to buy or customize an army, it sounds like a genre that could be fun.

Downloaded and played a little - was super fun. This is what I want in my Warhammer - coded rules, easy to understand and play, and focused on positioning and getting little edges.

Fun tip - don’t play a wizard / crossbow / steam tank start.

OMG!!! Thanks so much for this!!!
I loved the game on Steam but it’s even better with touch controls.
I play a lot of (real) Warhammer with my son and this is fantastic to have on my iPhone!!!
