Agree with @feederofgoats - this digital version is not really what you are looking for if you want multiplayer - there is too much coordination and communication needed.

You cant really play this solitaire / adjacent.

Spirit island is an amazing game though - I love it when I play it. Super hard for me

Agreed with the above. Spirit Island is great on the table as two handed solo, or even better, two players. Very hard and brainy gameā€¦ Digital I would only want to play it solo, there is too much communication necessary as to be hopeful that could be adequately implemented.

Yep, spirit island digital is actually a really great implementation of a super deep and thinky game. The multiplayer changed nothing for me. I play mostly single spirit and even thatā€™s thinky enough.
iOS has a limited test/trial within the game you can play for free. You can also subscribe for 1 month for a reduced cost to test it out.
Iā€™d pay $20 again if I had to, heck even more. I encourage everyone to test it out.

just for clarification: there is no async MP in Spirit Island. only real-time sessions.

Unmatched is out on Steam early access, seems solid so far although I have yet to play any mp in it; still doing the tutorial. Published by Acram so I expect it to be solid.

Oh, hell, that dropped today, too? Iā€™m already dropping coin on Foretalesā€¦

ā€¦because of this reviewā€¦

ā€¦and my experience with the old (not most recent, since the dev changed some things) demo. Now I have to consider Unmatched, knowing Iā€™m eventually in onā€¦

ā€¦andā€¦

ā€¦as well?

Can we go back to the days of only one release on floppies every month or so, please?

Can anyone that tries Unmatched give some impressions? My burning questions are 1) is it asynch; and 2) can you play with more than 2 people?

The Playdek/GMT Games announcement is Twilight Struggle: Red Sea, the new game that hasnā€™t even shipped yet in board game form! It will be shipping sometime in the next month, though, and it will be in my hot little hands.

Itā€™s a shorter, more focused version of Twilight Struggle (as you could probably guess from the name).

This drives me bonkers. TS debuted in 2006, and we got the digital adaptation from Playdek in 2016. Fine. Great. Labyrinth: the War on Terror. Another great choice, but being published in 2010 and adapted in 2020, itā€™s just leaving Early Access now. Whatā€™s Playdekā€™s next stellar adaptation? Mark Hermanā€™s 2018 Fort Sumter, adapted in 2019. Not exactly GMTā€™s finest on display. Paths of Glory? Washingtonā€™s War? Combat Commander? Wilderness War? Come on, Playdek!

For those craving more roguelike deck builders, the Pixel Cattle library is all in sale for $1 each. Thatā€™s Dark Mist, Dark Cards, and Blood Cards, I think. I own Dark Mist and it is pretty good, though a bit rough around the edges.

I also have Dark Mist and thought it was a very interesting take on the genre.

The big twist here is that your life is your deck, you die by running out of cards. Monsters steal your cards and hold them, but when you kill them, you get those cards back. It really allows them to create cards around this mechanic that just donā€™t exist in other games of this genre.

It is, as Mirefox said, still rough around the edges, but definitely worth picking up.

Where is this Pixel Cattle sale? Iā€™m not seeing it on Steam.

Never mind, you meant iOS, or at least mobile.

Yeah, sorry, I should have specified. I have iOS tunnel vision

SteamWorld quest is on sale from $10 to $3 on iOS. I know a lot of people around here are fans of the roguelike deck builders and this is a pretty good one in the genre. Quest eschews the roguelike elements in favor of an RPG with multiple party members and map exploration. Also, instead of building your deck on the fly in each battle you accumulate cards and build your decks outside of battle. The most unique element of this one is that you have 3 party members in each battle and each of their decks is shuffled together. I liked it and think itā€™s worth $4.

I should really go back and finish that game. I liked it. But like with most games, my Gaming/ADD took over and I moved on to something else.

Iā€™m in the same boat as Kenn. I like the game a lot but havenā€™t finished it. Iā€™ll go back and play it for a couple of days, make a little more progress, and never actually finish it. Well worth the sale price, though.

Is there any forum member who hasnā€™t heard and/or played the 2009 game by Vic Davis? If you havenā€™t, just get out and donā€™t ever come back, you heathen! Stately Play MP games of this are gonna be lit!

I know absolutely nothing about this game but it looks cool! By biggest concern is the developer; Armello had potential and it was squandered on purchasable in-game advantages and absolutely DOA multiplayer due to lack of asynch.
