It is ā€œBoard Game Weekā€ over at GOG.com so there are quite a few board games on sale. I saw a good selection of Asmodeeā€™s catalogue, some Acram games, and Talisman along with I believe one million DLCs.

What if Card Crawl and Card Thief had a baby?

Not sure it is relevant here or maybe I lived under a rock and was the only one not to know butā€¦.Avalon Hill has published the imho hands down best boardgame companion app EVER (both FFG and GW should take notes).

Hero Quest companion app!!!

Not only it makes the boardgame (any version) totally coop, it speeds up the game considerably and adds a lot of flavor with sounds and narrated stories.

As an aside, with the app and just the cards and dice (everything would fit a small box, like a normal card one) you can play the full Hero Quest experience (solo or with friends) in a super portable package (no boardgame or miniatures of course).
Played the first full adventure just today and had a total blast.
Itā€™s glorious.

Isnā€™t this just checking data, doing an audit ā€“ kinda like work?

Soā€¦ yes? Youā€™re checking papers, but the rules keep changing. And your pay depends on how many people you do a day, which you then have to balance against your rent / heat / food / medicine. Do you take the bribe to feed the family and worry about the secret police or your neighbors ratting you out? Or let the kids starve and freeze?

And apparently thereā€™s also a deep conspiracy at play although Iā€™ve never survived long enough to see it through.

Itā€™s a great game, you have to play it to see it.

Itā€™s challenging. You get paid based on the number of accurately processed applications you do. But the theme is Soviet style, so thereā€™s never really enough money. So you need to process faster, with more complicated rules, which leads to more mistakes.

I found the gameplay incredibly engrossing, requiring quick fingers and total focus. It put me in the zone mentally, and I loved it.

The theme and story compliment the gameplay perfectly too.

I do have reservations about how it will play on phones due to the decreased screen space though

Funny enough, Lucas Pope posted a dev log yesterday about porting the game to phones and how he handled that reduced space:

Can attest that it works well

I reviewed the Everdell app.

Good review.

The tree is really not that big of a deal in the tabletop, it is just 5 pieces that take a minute to put together.

I will be interested to see how long it takes for expansions to come out. As much as I like Everdell, it really shines best with the Spirecrest expansion.

I love the tree!

Thank you!

Yeah, Iā€™m sure the tree is fine. I just find it weird.

I do hope the expansions come out too. Dire Wolf did great with the Root expansions but Iā€™m not sure if they have for others (Iā€™m looking at you, Raiders of the North Sea)

Sagrada really could use the expansion as well, just to mix games up a bit more.

But yeah, Root gives me hope.

The latest GMT Games update has some interesting news.

First, Labyrinth: the War on Terror will be exiting Early Access soon and will be available on iOS and Android! No date listed.

Secondly, Playdek teased that they have another GMT Games project in the pipeline.

I would love for that to be Combat Commander! But weā€™ll see. Maybe Commands & Colors?

A coin game would be nice, though Iā€™d also love to see Imperial struggle

Color me unimpressed. Itā€™s been how long since they produced the amazing Twilight Struggle and theyā€™re just dribbling out titles? GMT should have the spigot on full at this point. If Playdek is too busy, there are other capable and reputable developers. Just not HexWar or Avalon Digital.
