As I was preparing my most recent internal diatribe against Asmodee for losing us two Terraforming Mars games in a row I noticed that neither Gang of Four nor Dream Home are on the App Store anymore. This follows their removal of Splendor. It seems that Asmodee is taking more games off the store these days than adding.

But even their recent games are broken messes. Takenoko launched broken and hasn’t been patched once in over a year. I bet it disappears soon. Game of Thrones has a whole boatload of problems and also has the same end game scoring as Terraforming Mars - meaning people can’t even see it.

So at this point, why would I ever buy an Asmodee app again?

Has anyone heard anything about their digital strategy or plans lately? I’m a bit out of the loop.

Asmodee has been sold, or is in the process of being sold. Maybe that has something to do with it

Don’t forget Agricola. Both versions.

When they first started the digital branch, they just wanted to build a customer base. Email addresses of people they could market to was the top priority.

Most of the early games were either publishing deals with existing titles or simpler games that were direct ports from the physical rules. But then they shifted to take on bigger titles where the goal was just to do more with the IP in the digital space, so games like Gloomhaven don’t directly match the physical game, and think those titles have been more successful for them so they are focusing their efforts in that area.

Wow, Agricola is gone?!? Crazy stuff.

Asmodee sucks, and it’s too bad. That means a lot of great games simply don’t get the TLC they need.

And that’s just the initial design!

Great news!

According to Pocketgamer, Maracaibo is coming to mobile next week.

Yup, posted their announcement site a little over a week ago.

And I will have a review of it up in the next week or so.

Sadly, no online multiplayer and no AI. Solo play is against the Automata from the regular game.

Neither is planned, though they are “open” to it.

Which means people won’t buy it because those features are missing, and then the sales figures won’t justify adding them…

Yep, exactly!!!

I’m sure it will never happen. So it depends on how much you like playing a multiplayer game using the Automata (does anybody ever play any complicated game as a Pass and Play game?)

There are some who use Pass and Play. It’s great for a long car trip or plane flight. We used to get lots of bugs reports for Pass and Play Waterdeep or Agricola.

I stand corrected! Shows you how often we take long trips.

Or develop games, lol.

But yeah, this is kind of what Portal did with Tides of Time.

I got the feeling this was even more negative than Portal’s.

I think Portal sounded like “we want to do it, but we’ll see if sales warrant it”

These guys are more like “we don’t want to do it, but if enough people want it, we will look into it.”

So even less likely.

Yeah, I’m chalking it up as a zero chance.

However, I don’t think I’m ever going to play Maricaibo at the table in my life so $8 to demo it isn’t the worst proposition. It just won’t have any staying power.

I just hope it’ll make up for Homeworld mobile.
