There is a Reddit link on ptcgo.

Basics are

  • trading disappears
  • everything HGSS disappears
  • unopened packs convert to Gems (126 unopened products for max gems)
  • only 4 of each card with transfer (max a play set basically)
  • all avatar items disappear
  • some other items disappear (good bye my beta sleeves and beta deck box!!!)

Heaps of downside. Upside? Not sure actually as they haven’t released the beta for testing. Could be a more generous MTG Arena model, where in real life packs can be redeemed. With better tournament and casting structures… maybe… shrugs.

I will still stay in it, got the kids hooked too. Bought them pack codes on their accounts to get them max gems conversion (like $15 per child).

It is such a good game, hopefully this doesn’t kill it. Fingers crossed!!! I still like Game Freak and Nintendo for their ethical approach to gaming with kids.

The only upside I see is that I believe the app will be universal, not iPad-only. They also aren’t completely screwing over existing players and there is plenty that transfers, but it does hurt the early adopters a lot more. I’m ok with a decade old game modernizing.

This is really helpful–thanks! It is also annoying news…

From your info and the FAQ I read, it sounds as though unopened packs will be converted to the new in-game currency and that there is a cap on how much they will allow you to convert, with the remainder of your packs becoming worthless. That really is not ideal at all. I assume this is what you mean by “max gems conversion” at 126 packs.

Um, if anyone here needs unopened digital packs to get to 126, I will mail them to you or scan some in and do a lopsided trade to you–I have stacks of unused code cards because I collect the physical cards. Just send me a PM.

The lack of trading may kill this for me, TBH. And that I have to open all of my old packs, which were fun to trade for and collect. It also sounds like, with multiple in-game currencies and no more trading with other players, Pokemon is monetizing this for themselves, which bugs me.

Last question–is there any word on when this migration to the new game will happen?

Migration was supposed to happen this year, people were bullish on December. But that we been pushed back to a nebulous 2022.

We know there will be a soft launch / beta. We know they will sunset ptcgo before they launch ptcgl.

Ok, so it sounds like they will have a sort of warning period for people to open packs and the like before the migration. “Nebulous 2022” is good : ) It beats “next week”!

I just logged in for the first time in several months and see now that the trade currency has updated to Fusion packs, so I’ll need to decide what singles I want to trade for from the general populace before the migration.

Is there anyone here who actually doesn’t own Lost Cities on iOS? It’s currently free.

I don’t! But I think I missed that offer

Looks like all the Acram digital games are on sale again.

I should really play another game of Charterstone…

What’s the deal with Digidiced’s game replays? I’ve got some that I can delete an some that I cannot.

I’m really not a huge fan or roll and writes, though there are some that definitely stand out above others and they do hit my table from time to time.

On iOS, though, is a pretty different story. Usually they are designed so that you can 1) play a game in a couple minutes and 2) brag about how much better your score is than your wife’s (I mean, hypothetically).

BrettspielWelt seems to be releasing a new R&W monthly at this point and they have a new one out today called… Blatterrauschen. The problem is that this is BrettspielWelt. Their apps are utilitarian with completely broken sign-in and I just wish they could do it a little better. Outline Development’s designs are a good example and Horrible Guild’s Railroad Ink’s design could turn any R&W into an iOS masterpiece.

I’ll probably take a look at this new season-themed game but I pretty much know what to expect at this point.

I do love a good iOS roll and write. I’ll just throw this one on my wish list and wait for a sale, though. Having bought Explorers at release and Doppelt So Clever on Black Friday has given me quite enough of the BrettspielWelt experience for now, thank you very much.

I don’t even need a clean presentation like other R&W games - they desperately need to fix their login issues. I can’t save high scores in most of their games.

How is Explorers? It’s on my wish list but not will probably be a while before I buy it.

Didn’t really click for me, and the board features are so small that it’s probably better suited for an iPad. I just prefer those games on my phone, since they’re so well suited for quick plays, as you noted before. I’m sure I’ll go back to it at some point.

Brettspielwelt is a total mess when it comes to making apps.
when i had to learn that they have acquired the Eclipse license and are working on Eclipse 2.0
i instantly slided into a deep depression :disappointed: :sob:

That was such an odd acquisition; it doesn’t even remotely fit the niche they’ve made for themselves.

If you have Amazon Prime you are automatically subscribed to Prime Gaming - Among some free to play crap you can get also free codes for Frostpunk and Journey to the Savage Planet (both valid for gog.com not steam)

Thanks for the reminder–meant to grab Frostpunk the other day and forgot.

Frostpunk is such a great steal (at any price) I concede the fact that lacking replayability may be a negative factor to some but I have to say the first time through the campaign was a VERY stressful (in a good way) white knuckle-teeth-grinding-full-on-despair mode. I have to say I seldom if ever got that emotionally invested (and drained) in a “mere” strategy game.

I should probably try it, I have had it on Epic for free for a while now.

edit: I hate Epic, I should pick it up for free this other way instead.

While gog has a launcher as well it is optional not mandatory like steam or feckit. That game is really a worthwhile waste of 1-2 afternoons, especially now with winter around the corner to set the right mood… (probably should play it on your laptop (running on batteries) in your wood cabin during a blizzard for full immersion :stuck_out_tongue:
