I think that was what it was meant to be (and that’s certainly how I pitched it to my parents), but I only recall using mine for gaming! Though using that cassette drive to load games took forever…

you had a cassette drive? I had a floppy drive for mine. My dad had a TRS-80 that had a cassette drive.

My C16 had a cassette drive, my C64 had a floppy disk drive. Granted both were hand-me-downs, my first own “PC” was an Amiga 600

Uh…ok…since I am already known for huge wall of texts here…

[C16]
[C64]
[Amiga 600]
Super Nintendo
Gameboy
Playstation 2 (original model)
DS
DS XL
PSP 1000
PSP 2000

3DS XL
PSVita
Gamecube
Playstation 3 slim
Wii
Wii U
XBOX 360
Playstation 4 pro
SNES Mini
C64 Mini
Playstation 1 Mini (classic?)
Switch
Playstation 5

Fun (?) facts:
Every Nintendo Console and the odd XBOX360 were bought at the end of their respective generation which resulted in nice massive discounts.
However in the case of the SNES that was a nightmare in itself to get games for them. In Germany back then: no GameStop/no Amazon/many retailers closing down their gaming-specific stocks and friggin non-localization of games in the first place because the usual European 5 languages pack (Ger, Fr, Eng, It, Sp) were expensive so why bother releasing games here as well as US version impossible to obtain as a child)

Every Nintendo and Sony Handheld aside from the Switch were pretty much early adoption purchases (even the hardware revisions)

Every Playstation Console (aside from the PS5) were middle of the road purchases when they released the first hardware revisions. The reason is the massive backlogs of the previous generation which didn’t trigger any FOMO or any urges to upgrade.

I gifted away the Gameboy, DS and Wii, but everything else is still in working order aside from the C16 (died), C64 (Floppy died) and Amiga 600 (died). PS2 and Xbox 360 are still hooked up on my TV but granted they don’t see much action nowadays (and if any then mostly the PS2).
I wish I could afford the space to have the C64 Mini and Wii U hooked up as well but…my mancave is seriously lacking in real estate :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think Legends of Runeterra is the best digital CCG on iOS, and I am a long-time MtG fan. The Arena app is great for playing a game of Magic digitally, but that’s about it as it has very few modes save for some events, most of which cost money. LoR, though, has an amazingly generous free to play model, compelling card play, and best-in-class presentation.

Anyways, LoR just added in a single-player story mode that functions very similarly to the roguelike card games that we like around here. Now, the mode doesn’t come close to the depth of a game like Slay the Spire, but it does give you a fun experience in which you continue to earn in-game XP to unlock new rewards (unlike similar modes in Hearthstone, which don’t contribute at all to your digital wallet).

The basic premise is that you pick a champion with a pre-made deck. You play through a series of fights and earn deck or champion upgrades as you progress. Deck upgrades can be new cards but can also be items that enhance your cards (making them cheaper, adding keywords, giving them more power/toughness, etc.). There aren’t a ton of decision points, but each story may have a branching path or two, a shop, treasure chests, etc.

Worth checking out if you like CCGs and want something other than duels.

I’ll check it out. I only started to dislike Runeterra once I got to the point where I needed to play PVP because I just couldn’t grok what made for a good deck compared to games like Eternal and MTG. Honestly much prefer the single player content in CCGs even Hearthstone’s.

I’m with you. I enjoyed the color challenges in Arena but they ended way too quickly and there doesn’t seem to be any indication that we will get more single player content. Some of the events are fun where you are given a deck, but when it comes to deck building and playing the PvP I lose interest fairly quickly, unless I’m playing my friends.

Eternal had some good campaign content but a lot of it was locked away behind a paywall and I am usually pretty reluctant to put money into these games.

I don’t know how repetitive LoR’s Path of Champions will ultimately be, but it looks like it could last a while for those who enjoy it. I don’t have the actual numbers off the top of my head but each champion can play through 10ish stories, each with their own path of enemies. And you can do this for 15ish champions if you’ve got them unlocked, which isn’t an issue if you play enough to get champion wild cards.

Right now it is my morning coffee game.

I’m digging this so far. Probably boosted a bit by the fact it starts off with Jinx and she’s the only character I’ve played as in any of the other games and I liked the way her decks worked in the single player challenges.

Gaia Project from Digidiced is coming to iOS and Android tomorrow.

I might actually try it now!

I played very competitive MTG in the early years, and lost the first Hawaii State championship in the final in I think 1994, but could have been early 1995. In theory I love the game, but I have to be honest, my favorite MTG experience ever was the 1997 MicroPose Shandalar computer game. The only thing that came close to that experience in the real game was sealed deck tournaments, but they cost money, every time, and that soured on me eventually.

Until Dream Quest, StS and our current onslaught of deck building games. They scratch that itch.

I have no patience for deck tuning, meta-game PvP and such any more, but it’s not recent, it started in 1997.

I absolutely adore Magic, but only casually against friends. Living with 3 other guys in college who all played Magic was a blast. Trying to keep up with the meta or even be remotely competitive on the “pro” scene is no fun. Though I did enjoy Scry magazine in the past.

How is Magic Arena?

If it works? Fine I guess.
I still cannot complete the “tutorial” color challenges after MONTHS since each color requires a live game against a real person and the app constantly gets Network Errors trying to do that. It seems that the problem is widespread and a known issue for year(s) but no remedy yet…kills my enthusiasm to dive deeper into it every time that happens.

Serviceable. As a way to play Magic digitally, it is an A+. It keeps up to date with current sets and has, looks good, and has a clean UI. But really, all you’re getting is a platform for playing duels online. There are a couple different play modes and there are a number of events, but it all still boils down to matching up against another player and playing a game of Magic. You can expect about 20 or so free packs per set depending on how much you play and you’ll accumulate enough currency to buy more but everything else costs money, from cosmetics to draft entry to most events. There is a color challenge that has 5 fights per color against the AI but that’s it as far as any single player mode at all, which puts Arena light years behind what other digital card games are doing to expand their games.

I have been still going back to Pokémon Online (PTCGO). They have promised a sunset, transfer of cards and relaunch of a new app that removes trading from the game.

Kind of happy with that.

Pokémon trading cards remains amazing!!!

Great app, and truly a good CCG, though games can be a bit 1-sided if type matchups aren’t favorable. I’ve been arguing for years with friends that it is one of the better CCG designs and and part of that has to do with the traditional resource management. I know “mama screw” is a possibility but I also feel like it is an important element to deck building. I’ve never liked the free-resources-every-turn deal that has become popular through digital CCG.

I’m looking forward to the new app as well. Make sure you use as much of your gold as you can. I’ve been stocking up on theme decks.

Urg, I see now I’ll be blocked from playing about half the characters in Path of Legends as I don’t have any of their champion cards. You can unlock the top six just by playing through the game mode itself and I think I got two from the bottom row from one of the free decks, but yeah will take a while before I get the rest of them, and you need at least two of their Champion cards before you can do a run as them.

You can get champion wild cards just by playing, though, so once you’ve done the runs that you have available, start cashing in those wild cards in the champs you want.

Another thing: in the rewards tab you earn rewards by leveling up with a certain region. Don’t forget to change the region from time to time to earn reward quicker and across all regions. They all have boosted XP for their first 10 or so rewards and you’re guaranteed at least one champion.

So is gold not going to transfer in PTCGO? Will unopened packs transfer? I have oodles of them and would hate to have to open or lose them. Although if they remove trading from the game, I’ll likely abandon it because that’s my fave part honestly.

Oh, boy, I’ll have to see if I can find the article I was reading. It may have been on TouchArcade. But no, I don’t think gold is transferring. And not every theme deck is transfer from. But I honestly don’t remember. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

That would be really helpful! One of the things I enjoy doing in the game is finding ways to trade for older packs that aren’t in the in-game store but have high-demand cards. And if packs aren’t going to transfer, and there will be no more trading, that will kind of kill the game for me. So if that really is the case, I guess I’ll have to open everything : ( And if I don’t want to stick with it, I’ll make trades heavily in your favor so you and @Baelnor can get all my stuff before the deadline : )
