I played it a couple of months back. Quality is ok. Multiplayer is async.
Thereās still at least one opening (2 if we have the players) in the online async game of Brass: Birmingham on Steam. If we get one more player, we can start. Sorry that itās not named so that itās obvious. I can start another one and name it correctly if that would help and we have some interest.
I have joined the game. There were two called BRASS but only one had a password so ā¦ easy!
Phalanx are actually the publisher and the developer is Cublo who did the previous Brass app. Early publicity (from Phalanx) said it would probably come to mobile first. Either plans changed and/or they decided that a beta test using Steam Early Access was the way to go.
Cool! Unfortunately, since I set it up for 4, we need one more.
If nobody wants to join, I can set up a 3-player game.
Iāll give it a day or two and then just go ahead and do that.
Does anyone have any thoughts about the Final Fantasy pixel remasters that start releasing tomorrow? On one hand, I think it is terrible that instead of updating their premium-priced games they are delisting the old versions and selling the updates as new games. In the other hand, these seem to be rather lovingly-made tributes to the originals with all the modern bells and whistles youād expect from a mobile title. Iāll probably buy the original to see if I want to keep collecting all the FF titles, even if I already own other versions.
Well, to be honest, I donāt like them. I may be more tolerant of the ugly (?) remade Sprites of the FF5 and FF6 Mobile ports but I do like all the other improvements. I DO like more modernized Sprite/background and QoL in my classics.
For that reason, I much prefer the FF 1,2 and 4(with After years DLC) reMAKES on PSP over original versions. They have the best of two worlds. higher res sprites rather faithful to the original artwork but modernized and a bit of QoL sprinkled on top.
Simply porting the original graphics and no QoL improvements (need to research if any QoL on Pixel Perfect versions) at that price point will not cut it for me.
I currently play the original FF6 on my SNES mini classic nowā¦that would possibly be the only one I would accept in PP versions just out of love for FF6 but aside from thatā¦
Edit:
Universally updated 2D pixel graphics, including the iconic FINAL FANTASY character pixel designs created by Kazuko Shibuya, the original artist and current collaborator.
Beautifully rearranged soundtrack in a faithful FINAL FANTASY style, overseen by original composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Improved gameplay, including modernized UI, auto-battle options, and more!
Dive into the world of the game with supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery, and music player.
Ok at least some QoL and remastered OST.
Stillā¦12ā¬ a pop? 72ā¬ for the complete bundle which is also the 20% discounted launch price?
While I would recommend it at the price point for Newcomers to the series (72ā¬ for ~300-400 hours of fun) I wouldnāt do it for Veterans. I prefer PSP 1,2 and 4 ports over PP with their higher res, also FF4 is missing the After Years DLC (probably since FF4,5,6 PP will be released on a later date I cannot confirm that now).
The fact is I MAY splurge for the PP versions of FF5 and FF6 since both didnāt get a decent PSP remake and my love of both games. Otherwise a hard pass.
Edit2:
I also hate the vague statements of āConsole release of PP versions will be considered if there is demand to itā of Square Enix spokespersonsā¦
I rather would have them on my Switchā¦should I regret my decission of not going for a Steam Deck now?
Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit!!!
Neuroshima Hex app is finally coming out in September!
Not only that, but itās a free update if you already own the game. Will only come with the base 4 factions at first, but as they add more, if you had those factions in the old game that will also be a free update.
Basically, if you owned everything in the old app, then you wonāt be paying a dime for the new stuff.
Iāll be putting that in the too good to be true box. I hope Iām wrong
i have my doubts about async. not explicitly mentioned.
but a hope is a hope is a hope.
so very good news!
Yeah, Iām a little worried on that front, considering Portalās other apps. Tides of Tome could have been a massive hit if it had multiplayer of any type.
Yeah, thatās one thing that does worry me.
I just added that fear to my post about this news, which is going live in a couple of hours.
I always tag the publisher on Twitter for any posts, so if they read it, maybe theyāll mention it?
Doubtful, but one can hope.
If I remember correctly, their approach to Tides of Time as that they would add multiplayer if it sold well. I canāt think of a game that took that approach that actually sold well enough to warrant the update.
Because this is an app that actually had good multiplayer (for a while, anyway), Iām holding out a little bit of hope.
But weāll see.
I believe steam: rails to riches by Acram is the exception that proves the rule, with regards to adding multiplayer after launch
Well there are a few that have added multiplayer later, but Iām talking about making it contingent on sales. Is that what they said with Steam? Multiplayer was added post-release with Sentinels and Evolution as well.
And now some sad news though with a light sprinkling of good news given pending new line up, whatever that means:
Aw, man. I was looking forward to this one, as I own the physical version that never gets played anymore.
Bummer! The coming digital adaptation was the reason Iāve never bothered to buy and learn the cardboard one. Seemed like the sort of game for which a computer handling all the fussy stuff would have been superb.
