Pretty sure we have someone from Acram here… @RachetAcram any insight?

Well, this is very, very interesting:

Looks cool. According to a FAQ over at IGN, a few things to note:

  1. They claim is can do anything a PC can do, so it isn’t limited to the Steam store. Presumably that means I can play, say, WoW on it? FFXIV? Could be cool.

  2. There is an SD slot to expand memory, but that will obviously run slower than than the HDD.

  3. They are working on a dock, so you could drop it onto your TV Switch-style.

  4. The battery could be the killer. 2-8 hours. As a benchmark, Portal 2 ran for about 4 hours. That’s a bit rough.

There’s becoming quite a few of these handheld pc things on the market. Aya Neo, Onexplayer, GPD Win, and a bunch of others. Albeit quite expensive (usually ~$1k). This is the first I think I’ve seen around $400.
I’m quite tempted and was wondering when this market would explode as the switch is great but it’s obviously constrained to the Nintendo store. A PC version was inevitable and a great thing.
If this thing docks and integrates seemlesly with controllers, that would be amazing.

For a year there while I was confined to home I found myself playing League of Legends again, but that exception aside I haven’t touched a PC game in a decade. This is primarily because in order to do so I’d have to disappear upstairs to the office. I would rather be on the couch with my family if we have downtime. This device could be the solution to my “problem.” I am looking forward to it.

Same. And it’s not because there aren’t oodles of PC games I want to play or try, it’s pretty much the same reason as you. If I’m going to go ensconce myself away for a bit, it’s going to be for a book or TV, not a video game. This would get me playing PC games again. But the battery life is a killer. I’ll wait for version 2, I think. Let the early adopters get all the bugs out : )

Well, I might be one of those early adopters … for $5 that was sitting in my Steam wallet anyway, sure, I’ll preorder one and actually decide later.

I per-ordered the 512gb one. I have 200+ games on Steam and halve to boot camp for half of them. This will be good for some of the more action ones on the PC side for me.

Same here … I own a Mac laptop and got sick of the boot camp thing.

You guys bring up a good point - unlike other console releases, this is a steal for people with a big PC library since they already have the games to play.

He has a point:

Hard to argue with that. I figure, though, it costs me nothing to preorder—the money was already in my Steam wallet from a gift card I hadn’t finished spending, and if I cancel at the last minute, it’ll go back there. I imagine we’ll hear more about the hardware before release, and I can make a more informed decision then. If this is another Valve hardware failure, I’ll back out. I put my reservation in late enough that I have no illusion about being in the very first wave of buyers.

I don’t really care about screen resolution—nothing I play is that graphics-intensive. This would help me get through my backlog, including several games I got in Humble Bundles that I haven’t played because they’re Windows-only. (Not sure any more why I got a Mac … )

Hasn’t the steam box been in development for a decade? This is the first I’ve heard of a switch sized version.

If they’re going portable then I assume they are trying to compete with the console market. Cod on the sofa? Ok, I get that, we are all mobile gamers here. But we can cod on Xbox. Now if we’re talking about eu4 on a switch sized device? I’m sceptical

Paradox games on a mobile device? Ooooh this suddenly went from zero interest to convincing use case in 3 seconds. *

*yes, yes, if works etc. I’ll let all the early adopters try it out first.

Edit: or Into the Breach which I haven’t played enough of and never quite felt justified buying a Switch.

It doesn’t look like there is a Friends list for Wingspan. Anyone want to set up a game? I’m in as hardco.

Brass Birmingham is in early access on Steam.

I know nothing about the online multiplayer and whether it’s async or not.

Anybody know?

If it is, anybody up for a game? I’d like to do a First Impressions post about it.

Edit: It appears that it is async with a maximum of 24 hours for each turn. It also has private games with passwords. I’ve just set up a 4-player game with the password “testing”
