I’ve been playing PictoQuest and here are my thoughts:

It is picross. If you like those style puzzles, here you will have a collection of them. If you don’t like picross, don’t think that the RPG elements will make up for that. The early puzzles couldn’t be easier; the latter are challenging enough for someone who doesn’t play these style puzzles often. The RPG elements are superfluous. The game looks good and is charming but there is little to it other than playing one puzzle after another. Yes, there are some items, and yes, there are some challenges, usually based on time, but that is about it.

The game is perfectly fine, but when you look at games that combine puzzles with RPGs, this certainly falls below the likes of Hero Emblems, Puzzle Quest, etc.

That said, if you like picross, you’ll get a nice collection of puzzles for $4, I believe.

Wow! So it is actually coming!? Here’s hoping they’ve learned from Terraforming Mars re: multiplayer and how it ought to work…

@irishdomer08, I tried to create a 2p game with you, since you were in the lobby, but when I hit “Invite” it seemed like I just hit cancel. Did you get an invite?

I got one but when I hit accept I got an error

I’m not going to install the new TfM beta but this line is in update notes:

  • Complete rework of the online out of game flow

Hopefully that translates to showing what game it is your turn in…

Yes, not clear what that means exactly. Sort of vageuly encouraging though.

Where did you see the update notes? I don’t see them in TestFlight but maybe I am not looking properly …

@irishdomer08 Ah, okay … stand easy … found it (clued in by @JammaTal).

Maybe it means that everybody will be able to see the final score? Or, dare we hope, both?

I installed the test version on my iPad, so I’m up for a game

And Labyrinth is on/in Steam early access (I don’t know what that is. What is it?) this month, the 27th. My heart just skipped a beat.

Meanwhile, my favorite boardgame ever is going digital :))))
I’m so happy.

Again? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Need to see more to convince me, my Warhammer40k Bias is to strong…

Is that a different Warhammer Quest?

I second the question. As it is coming from Perchang, I just assume it is another version of their Warhammer Quest 2 app but with a new scenario.

It’s…complicated.

Think Warhammer Quest, but in the new world, not the Old one.

Silver Tower was the first resurrection of the original Warhammer Quest boardgame, some years ago.
Now it’s out of print, as it’s its follow up (Shadows over Hammerhal).
The current one is the WH40K one, Blackstone Fortress which just received a new expansion.
The game is most famous for its super fast but deep dice mechanic.
Ultra easy to learn, hard to master (I have completed several times the campaign with my son, who 8 when we started playing).

Personally I like Silver Tower the most, because it best captured the original WHQ vibe for me (randomized dungeons tile by tile, solo play, no need for a DM, pure co op experience).

I’m pretty excited for this digital version, both the single player campaign and the just announced ‘weekly dungeon’.

I don’t know the details about this digital version yet but I think you are safe to consider this another incarnation/evolution of previous Warhammer Quest games (by same devs).
The Silver Tower is a very peculiar setting, with Chaos based enemies and events everywhere…

TouchArcade says that it will launch with 10 unique characters.

I feel like Perchang toed the line a little too much regarding IAPs. I understand releasing new characters and scenarios, but if I remember correctly you could also buy in-game currencies, which the game itself doled out rather slowly.

Even though WHQ2 isn’t my favorite game ever, I’m always up for a good SRPG/tactical game. I hope this is a premium game but something about the marketing makes me think this is Perchang’s first step into a f2p model.

To be fair I never had any problems with gold in any of their games (I always told them to ditch that part as they didn’t make any money from it but apparently some people like that, ie cheat).
Actually gameplay wise I thought they were too generous (mid WHQ2 you sit on a pile of gold).
As for buyable character, it’s a Games Workshop thing (they sell single miniatures so someone had this wonderful idea to sell digital miniatures as well).
The original boardgame had 6 if I recall well (must check at home my copy).

Knight Questor (knight)
Darkoath Chiedtain (barbarian)
Fyreslayer Doomseeker (mad dwarf warrior)
Excelsior Warpriest (with Gryph-hound) (cleric)
Mistweaver Saih (elven Wizard)
Tenebrare Shard (elven assassin)

Then you could buy almost any GW miniature and use that as a hero.
My son loved using a Savage Big boss.

I assume here it’s the same but I think the base game will have something for anyone as usual…you will want new characters only if you really really want to use a specific class.

We will see.

I’m on the skeptical bandwagon here too after the abortion that was WHQ2, and definitely agree with @Mirefox about the f2p model - it’s their logical follow up after the level up walls you hit in WHQ2 and the card packs in the 40k one from before. Color me hopefully pessimistic, I guess.

WHQ2 was simply awful.

If they learned anything from that … well, great. If they didn’t, then no sale.

I felt as though WHQ2 really only had a few problems, and mostly they would be relatively easy to address (and perhaps were in a patch). I recall feeling as though the lack of random spawns gave players too much control, for example. But much of the work that went into that game was exactly what I want.

If the mechanics are going to be the ones from a much-played and well-regarded cardboard version, issues of balance and maintaining tension may be off their table (and, to be fair, Perchang might well be fine at even those after learning from WHQ2). An adaptation which controls as well and looks as gorgeous as their prior games and implements the Silver Tower system I’ve been wanting to try since it was announced sounds fantastic to me.
