I felt like I had a really rough start! I didn’t end up being able to get an Ironworks on the board, and ended up paying top dollar for my development early. Maybe I don’t really know how to play out of 3rd position…
I think I’ll swap out Agricola for Concordia, since everyone seems to have that on their lists.
take loans, always for £30. Money now is better than future income.
develop away at least level 1 ports and mills. They’re generally not worth building.
don’t try and do everything. You don’t have time. If another player builds something useful to you, it’s ok to use it (eg their port to flip your mill, rather than also building your own port). It’s ok to end up with a building type basically unbuilt.
only build the minimum number of canals you can get away with. However, do build rail links: these are much more valuable.
Yeah, it’s a Martin Wallace game, so you’re expected to go into debt, and use that money to stimulate your engine. In this version of brass, you’re not really aiming to get that high up the income track
I’ll get to my turn in a bit after I go through the tutorials again but I’ve noticed that I don’t have notifications. As I mentioned in the Decathlon thread I’m going to set reminders on my phone for times that I tend to be free to check my phone, like morning coffee and and at night while I’m bed.
We are doing a couple family days at Universal Studios so please bear with me for a day or two if I don’t get around to my turn. I will reliable after tomorrow.
I like the game and I feel as though I understand the mechanics now, more or less. The game does a good job of telling me why I can’t do something I assumed I could do as well, which would be helpful in more games. I’m transitioning over to the point now where I’m not fighting the mechanics as much and just don’t have a solid strategy.
You seemed to have a solid game, glad you weren’t put off. Could share some suggestions if you would find that helpful, but of course happy to let you find your way too if that’s what you would prefer
At this point I think it is a more “find my way” type thing. I saw plenty of suggestions before the game and they just went right over my head. I think now that I’m getting it more I’ll start to see how my strategies unfold.
