King of the Hill - Multi-Game - 3-Player - League

Good game!

I felt like I had a really rough start! I didn’t end up being able to get an Ironworks on the board, and ended up paying top dollar for my development early. Maybe I don’t really know how to play out of 3rd position…

I think I’ll swap out Agricola for Concordia, since everyone seems to have that on their lists.

Will do. I’m a little overwhelmed getting my family ready for a road trip tonight but I’ll get everything set up tomorrow on the road.

I created a game.

Ok, some basic pointers for Brass.

  1. take loans, always for £30. Money now is better than future income.
  2. develop away at least level 1 ports and mills. They’re generally not worth building.
  3. don’t try and do everything. You don’t have time. If another player builds something useful to you, it’s ok to use it (eg their port to flip your mill, rather than also building your own port). It’s ok to end up with a building type basically unbuilt.
  4. only build the minimum number of canals you can get away with. However, do build rail links: these are much more valuable.

I think these are the main traps for new players

Yeah, it’s a Martin Wallace game, so you’re expected to go into debt, and use that money to stimulate your engine. In this version of brass, you’re not really aiming to get that high up the income track

quite the contrary. when you notice that your income goes up you can be sure that something has gone wrong

Especially with less-experienced players, there’s an inverse relation between final VPs and income.

Martin Wallace’s games believe very much in the time value of money

I’m in … let’s go!

I’ll get to my turn in a bit after I go through the tutorials again but I’ve noticed that I don’t have notifications. As I mentioned in the Decathlon thread I’m going to set reminders on my phone for times that I tend to be free to check my phone, like morning coffee and and at night while I’m bed.

yeah, notifications are down.
i’m sure it’s this “licence fee must be paid again to apple” thing.

We are doing a couple family days at Universal Studios so please bear with me for a day or two if I don’t get around to my turn. I will reliable after tomorrow.

Gg both. What do you think of Brass, Mirefox?

Congrats to @Caradog for your 2nd win.

I am the next challenger and I am going to pick a game that has not been played in the league yet, I chose Lords of Waterdeep.

Interestingly, the next person on the list that also has Lords of Waterdeep on their list is @geigerm, so he gets to play in back to back games.

I will send the challenge, and chose to play with both expansions.

@Mirefox you are welcome to change any games on your list at this time.

@Caradog I think I added you as a friend and invited you, but only if you are actually Caradog in the game, otherwise, i need your ign for LoW.

I like the game and I feel as though I understand the mechanics now, more or less. The game does a good job of telling me why I can’t do something I assumed I could do as well, which would be helpful in more games. I’m transitioning over to the point now where I’m not fighting the mechanics as much and just don’t have a solid strategy.

Not me, sadly - should be able to find me as Caradog-SP now

You seemed to have a solid game, glad you weren’t put off. Could share some suggestions if you would find that helpful, but of course happy to let you find your way too if that’s what you would prefer

At this point I think it is a more “find my way” type thing. I saw plenty of suggestions before the game and they just went right over my head. I think now that I’m getting it more I’ll start to see how my strategies unfold.

@Caradog - just to be clear, the minimum bar is 4 wins in a row…

@Caradog and @geigerm ok, Waterdeep game is setup. Let me know if you don’t see it.
