Just One More Run…The Roguelike Thread

So I am into Canto V, and have all the tools to make a multiplying poison build… but it just takes too many turns to ramp up!!!

Any hints?

I find that the decks that ramp up depend very much on getting your enchantments memorized or imbued. If it takes you a couple turns to even draw the enchantment you’re relying on, you’re likely in trouble.

I just finished a run where I was using all the divine cards as an arcanist. It relied on two enchantments - one inflicted burning for every heart and one did damage for every heart. It was touch and go through canto 5 but once I was able to imbue even one of those enchantments I started to steamroll the monsters.

It’s not great advice since it is so luck dependent, but I guess I would say try, try again until all the luck is in your favor with shrines and opportunities.

I also haven’t had much luck with poison outside of a single run where everything fell into place perfectly.

Never have I ever had a winning poison deck, despite my best efforts.

I had great success with a Charm deck, getting up to 102 charm at some points, but the Dawnbringer (new expansion) killed me when he had 127 hp.

Another one was doing well until I ran up against something(not even sure what) that killed me by doing something like 96 points of damage, 12 at a time, in one turn.

Had a solid burn deck going once too. Till I got to the final boss, who’s…… drum roll…. immune to fire damage.

Is he immune? I do know that he cleanses afflictions so you need some sort of backup because you aren’t building stacks of anything on him.

Believe he’s immune. If not, he kept cleansing it. Either way, I didn’t survive long!

Yeah, that has been the doom of me with a charm deck, a poison deck, a brittle deck, and a burn deck, I think.

I had my Charm deck working with two enchantments. One that gave 3 poison when a melee attack was played and another that double the poison every turn. I was hoping that between the Charm and the Poison, that would help with the final boss.

But I haven’t got to him yet with the deck!

I just won with a Charm/Poison/Perform deck! How do you get a complete screenshot of all your cards and talents?

Hey all, I picked this up as you all seemed to be having fun with it. I played it through once and it didn’t really click with me. Maybe I got on overpowered combo, maybe I need to up the difficulty, but I was hoping to be excited to replay a roguelike game after a run, not trying to motivate myself to start again.

I started a fighter who went with muscle memory into reckless assault. This worked great, I was one shotting bosses from the start of the game. I immediately dumped all my starting weapons cards and refused to take most cards offered as rewards.

I’m definitely missing something here, I hope I see a bit more of what the games about on my next run

A couple of thoughts:

  • What difficulty were you on? Story is pointless, and even normal can become fairly easy once you start to understand your builds. The next difficulty is stumping me, however.

  • Warrior is maybe the most straightforward class with not a lot of creativity outside of hitting stuff hard. Try another class, maybe?

  • There is always the luck factor. You may have just gotten lucky the first time through. Even when you start to know what you are doing the talents you roll can drastically change how you play or how well you do.

  • Leveling up a class unlocks new starting cards and traits that can give you very different approaches to how you play the game. It can be a grind, for sure, but it adds some interesting variety.

  • It just may not be for you. That happens.

I find it is definitely the difficulty.

Below is a screen shot of my most recent normally runs. 4 victories from 5 starts suggests that I have that mode locked.

On Difficult though, I am at 3 victories from 35 starts…. Not the greatest return in the world!

Still get sucked in though….

Well this makes me feel like I have no idea what I’m doing…

Don’t worry. I’ve got way more runs on difficult and zero wins still.

Yup, zero wins on difficult too. Came close this afternoon with a divine knight deck; got the apotheosis talent, which took away all but my divine cards and gave me four yellow actions to start the turn. Great combo with the greatsword, which I had powered up a bunch by then so they were doing 70+ dmg a shot.

Made it to the last boss, got him down to around 450 before he crushed me.

I’m talking normal. All of you talking about Difficult makes me sad. :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, yes, but you, too, can have a 0% win rate like me if you just bump the difficulty up.

I really wanted to grab that talent with my divine arcanist but I had some blue cards I absolutely needed for defense. I also wanted to grab it just to unlock it in the codex but that wasn’t worth me ruining a run.

I lost to the final boss anyways…

Has anyone else snagged this yet? You need a lucky series of opportunities.

Edit: I got the Fortuitous perk.

Edit: I still lost. Final boss beat me on 3 turns with his move that does damage equal to a percent of his missing health.
