How's everyone doing?

Just having a normal one.

Because the statutory sick pay rates are terrible, take-up will be low.

Why not just put them on furlough? Because fuck them that’s why.

Late to the party - still alive albeit high risk. The Queen and I both had our vaccinations not long ago and have only just begun to take a few steps towards normalization. We are still both quite careful about contact, like handshakes. Both children (41 & 34) are having their first vaccinations next week and will fly down to see us in June. We haven’t seen either in well over a year.

My parents (70s, in the UK) have had their vaccinations now and my younger brothers‘ cohort should be registering for appointments soon. Very relieved for my parents and envious of my brothers in a good way. They’ll be safely down the pub while I’m still sighing at the glacial pace of jabs here in Germany. My mother-in-law (60s, Bavaria) is still waiting. Hey ho.

I’m getting shot #1 tomorrow and will schedule my second one after that; my wife’s getting the J&J single shot on Sunday. So that’s a relief.

Looking forward to seeing my mom & sister, who are both already vaccinated, once we’re past that point. I did see them a few times late summer/early fall, but that’s because my dad passed away last July. Didn’t see him for the last ~8 months of his life, which I’ll always regret.

Dang, that is terrible. But you couldn’t have known.

I’m lined up for shot #2 next week. Hopefully my wife and I will be able to have some proper dates by the end of the month. But it won’t change a ton for us, because our 7 year old is high risk and the kid vaccine is far in the distance. We’ll have to decide what added risks may be worth it if we are faced with another year of this before she can get jabbed.

Normal country doing normal things.

Finally had my first vaccination injection. One of my three possible sources came through; I have … feelings… about alleged German efficiency. I have the Pfizer/Biontech jab, quite unexpectedly given I’d said I was happy to have the unpopular-in-Germany AZ vaccine.

Anyway, that sounded a bit churlish, but I’m actually really happy to have had the first round and an appointment for the second, and an outside chance of finally being able to see my family this autumn.

So… I have secured a new which will involve me moving the family to Singapore… in the middle of a global pandemic.

Crazy? Not crazy? Not sure…

Going to assume it’s a job just to be boring. Singapore’s had a pretty robust response to covid, so it seems safer to go there than stay in many other countries.

Oh yeah, key word missing there! A new Job

It has been a while since I lived overseas, so hopefully Singapore I great!

My seven-year old’s results for the ITBS (a common standardized test for elementary school kids for any international folks here). Just so people can understand the joy (and frustration, if you see that one outlier there) of having a smart kid.

Smart but poor at listening? The kids destined for upper management, surely

Oh, the shame of it all. To have a child who does no actual work for a living!
