Current Warfairs

The groups are fighting for an independent state of Balochistan, which has led to a militant insurgency directed against both Iran and Pakistan — those countries blame each other for harboring terrorists.

You could not make it fucking up.

I had world peace in the middle of my bingo card…

For reals though, let them go for it.

I keep wondering to myself - but Hamas dealt a serious blow to Ukraine. The US can’t seem to have more than one thought at a time, and even if you simplify it to

  1. Middle East conflict
  2. old foe conflict

US will prioritise the first. Add to that Trumps claim he ends the war in 24 hours (which would likely involve freezing current battle lines) half the country would fall in line.

That said, there seems to be a theme in the news around not enough people to fight - for both sides. Is there any scenario where NATO puts boots on ground?

And lastly - are any of these wars actually winnable? And what do you win? Ukraine has been smashed, and Gaza, which was already prison like, is looking even worse…

I feel very war weary and I am not even on any side!

If I had been checking in to this thread to prophesy doom for Ukraine for almost two years, I would find something else to do with my time.

At this point, I wouldn’t prophesy doom for Ukraine per se, but with populist pro-Putin parties on the rise in Europe and the inevitable Trump win (or Trump loss and subsequent successful coup this time, it amounts to the same thing), democracy is going to have a Very Bad Year and Ukraine is going to be collateral damage.

Why yes, I did have a big glass of optimism with breakfast.

Probably should have thought of donating to the cause before they buried them….

Sweden signs own death warrant.

How so? Sweden’s policy of non-alignment and neutrality served it well during the Cold War but they’ve only grown closer to the West since the turn of the century. As part the EU they are already bound by its foreign and security policy. They have participated in joint training and missions with NATO. With Finland joining NATO, they no longer have to worry about Russia invading Finland if they join.

Oh no, we don’t have to back up relentless defeatism in this thread, you can just freely assert it without any supporting information, over the span of years, without ever linking to or explaining anything.

Finland? Doomed. NATO? Doomed. Can’t imagine why these countries keep cock-teasing Russia into invading them, but I imagine once they’ve been subsumed back where they belong, they’ll have learned their lesson.

I am rooting for NATO to keep Russia in check…. But it’s a defensive alliance, not an offensive one.

Great to see the Scandinavian countries join.

Well, can’t have this! I expect to see US escalate up.

Great video, great commentator.

Ukraine is doing an amazing job.

@OhBollox took me a while to get to the party, but I think I see your point now.

Does anyone have some up to date analysis on this conflict that’s a good read? Israel seems to be losing a lot of the sentiment they had early on….

Media coverage of “stuff” gets bored easily. With Ukraine, Israel and Red Sea going on, Taylor Swift and the US election seems to get more airplay!

And Russia continues to grind forward.

Saw a map on Al-Jazeera, which showed the extend of Donbas and was wondering if the end goal for Russia is to get to the Donbas borders and then call it a day?

They may have some war weariness and other internal issues to solve……
