Could not be funnier.

So…. Is Russia Ukraine still a thing? Any thought on whether the borders freeze for winter / west gives up?

In the US, the narrative seems to be only US’ funding and influence, which is tough to get through congress - with focus on arabs v Jews.

Will we see a negotiation? Will Europe take the role of the US to keep the blight in the borderlands?

Any thought on whether the borders freeze for winter

While winter makes things harder, it also means the ground freezes so tanks and IFVs can manoeuvre. The war will continue at a lower intensity.

west gives up?

No.

In the US, the narrative seems to be only US’ funding and influence,

That’s the way they are about everything. The US are by far Ukraine’s biggest supporter in terms of materiel and money. It wouldn’t make sense for them to be prioritising talking about UK or German support.

Will we see a negotiation?

Who do you see negotiating? Putin, who can’t be seen to negotiate with somewhere he has invaded? Or Zelensky, who won’t negotiate with Putin, because Putin’s a pathological liar?

Will Europe take the role of the US to keep the blight in the borderlands?

Germany and the EU, and the UK, will continue to unlimber fresh resources. I can speak more confidently about the EU than the UK, because the EU isn’t a nutcase eating its own shit, but I don’t think UK support will decrease; we are still training thousands of Ukrainian troops here.

Over the summer, the EU has sent a clear signal by announcing a new €50 billion multi-year support package to be delivered through 2027, which doubles total EU commitments. The EU’s “Ukraine Facility” is showing a lasting commitment to support Ukraine.

The Russians are currently trying to take the initiative, and almost certainly failing, unless they’ve spent the last year training a secret army no-one, including them, knows about. Ukraine is currently defending against Russian counter-offensives and carrying on their own offensive, which is a big fucking task. The Ukrainians have fewer troops overall, so will find it difficult to maintain sufficient concentrations to keep offensives going, but the losses are also firmly imbalanced in their favour, so it becomes an issue of ‘how much does Russia want to lose this by’.

The initial Russian plan was to have control of Ukraine by day 10. This is now day 630, IIRC?

The War in Afghanistan is unlike any conflict that Canada has ever been involved in. The duration of the war generated continual stresses on the Army and put soldiers, units, and leaders at all levels to the test. After the removal of the Taliban Regime, Kabul had to be stabilized to prevent a new civil war. When the revived insurgency set its sights on Kandahar and the OEF and ISAF coalitions were confronted with a sophisticated and amorphous insurgency, the Canadian Army was forced to adapt to new and different types of operations continuously from 2001 to 2014.

The Canadian Army in Afghanistan is the first narrative to lay out what happened and why. This complex story depicts the evolution of the forces in-theatre and how they carried out their missions in pursuit of national and coalition objectives from the dark days of the 9-11 attacks to the suppression of the insurgency in Kandahar Province in 2011.

Can anyone tell if anyone is actually winning this Israel vs Palestine conflict?

I don’t know which metrics you would use to determine that. The Israelis are definitely kicking the shit out of Gaza, but it’s essentially impossible to tell how many of the people they’ve killed are fighters due to dishonesty on the part of both Hamas and the IDF. IDF have no problem executing civilians, Hamas has no problem pretending hardcore fighters were out fetching water for their twelve dying children.
