What are you playing?

I checked out that Aria game, seems pretty neat so far (one mission in).

Looks more sustainable for me than darkest dungeon

Yeah, I think I discovered it in a Reddit game suggestion thread where someone had posted ā€œLooking for game like Darkest Dungeon, but that won’t punish me for just being alive.ā€

I bought Vampire Survivors a while back and had kind of burned out on it until I got my Steam Deck. Playing with a joystick is way better than playing with keyboard controls.

Best description of DD I’ve read to date.

Mousecraft is currently $1 on PSN. Lemmings with Tetris pieces, basically. There’ve been several puzzles so far which were tricky enough to require thinking for a few minutes, interspersed with tutorial-style levels. No idea about its longevity, but it’s quite nice!

Curious, I still like (maybe even more) talky stuff in my games. In stark comparison, my patience runs very thin with gameplay BS and shenanigans the older I get.

All Steam Deck all the time these days.

Current favorites:

  • Brotato
  • Vampire Survivors
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Tinyfolks
  • Cult of the Lamb
  • Superflight

If you like Vampire Survivors I highly recommend Brotato on the Deck.

Has anyone tried Marvel Snap? I think it might be the perfect mobile game. But I had to stop playing it because I’m weak and I have no self control…

Marvel snap was fun, I unlocked lots of characters that had interesting synergies. Their hot location/hot spot system shifts the meta in interesting ways. I’m not interested in it long term because I’m not interested in grinding out deck pool after deck pool

I think Marvel Snap is fun. The quick play and Smash Up-style gameplay definitely set it apart from other CCGs. I appreciate the monetization and that most of what you can spend your real money on is cosmetic. I’ve encountered some really brain dead players that don’t seem to understand the goal of the game but I guess that is what you can expect for a f2p superhero game.

I think my biggest complaint is in the deck building. There are some cards that have good synergy but I haven’t felt that there are any overall deck themes or strategies. That could be my own issue, though. I just don’t find myself theory crafting like I do in other CCGs, so I don’t know is Snap will grow stale because of that or not.

I do think I’ve hit a bit of a pay wall in Marvel Snap. In order to level up and obtain new cards you have to upgrade cards that you own. Each upgrade takes two currencies. The elements, or whatever they are, can be earned after each battle and I’ve not had much problem with a steady stream of those, even if they are distributed randomly and might not always be for my preferred cards. The credits, though, do run out eventually. You can earn them through dailies so it is t a hard paywall that bars you from playing, but your progress will certainly slow down at some point.

I saw it as a bit different from your usual CCG. The really small decks, smaller number of available cards overall and the random locations mean the choices you make in game are more important. Plus the ā€˜snap’ decision is very interesting.

I always get frustrated when playing a game well involves identifying and memorizing a huge number of meta decks.

The main problem for me is all the hooks that they put in with currencies etc to shamelessly get you addicted to playing it. You end up playing it more than you want which ultimately leads to buyers remorse over how you just spent the last few hours!

I think it’s a great game clothed in the kind of bullshit that seems to be infecting most of our online experience nowadays.

How far have you gotten with Aria Chronicle?

I am up to level 6 teams, with two main parties;
A) Amazon / Paladin / Exile / Charmer / Invoker

B) Monk / Paladin / Warlock / Mage / Druid

It’s still pretty fun, though getting a little grindy…

Not far, I am still on my trip and had my characters at level 4 on the plane out here (and had played about an hour when I bought the game a month ago.) I will play on the way back. I did hear it was a little grindy, but I was kind of looking for that. I should get a few more hours in the game tomorrow on my plane trip home.

It’s almost a good grindy…

Hot tip, sell your grey crap in inventory… if you pick better stuff up in the dungeon it might disappear if inventory is full

Well, you hit a bit of a wall at level 7…. Just slow to level from here!

Watching a house I set fire to burn down, and drinking a beer. Also, playing Project Zomboid.
