A simple if obscure request:
What iOS games have fun, compelling dailies?
A simple if obscure request:
What iOS games have fun, compelling dailies?
Iâd like to remind everyone that this is a safe space for people to discuss iOS gaming.
We might not agree with the psychological hook that dailies are based on, but we can all discuss this maturely
Ha! I wasnât even thinking about the countless f2p games when I asked that. I was thinking more like how the old Carcassone app had the puzzle of the day, or something like that.
Meteorfall is another good example.
Slay the Spire is another with dailies. But surely by now everyoneâs already had their fair time with that.
Iâve wasted a fair amount of time lately with Grindstoneâs daily challenges. Theyâre starting to feel a little repetitive now, but it took quite some time to reach that point.
Hearthstone, obvs
The problem with Hearthstone is that the daily rewards are paltry while the cost for anything is above the industry standard. As far as earning in-game currency, Hearthsotne falls far behind every other digital CCG.
I stopped playing constructed Hearthstone a long time ago but the daily and weekly challenges give you more than enough to always buy the battlegrounds pass. If you were free to play trying to play constructed, you could probably save enough gold to buy around 50 packs for each new card set release. It started getting harder to keep up will all the new mini set releases. But 50 packs usually gave you enough to make 2 or 3 competitive decks. Not overly generous. It also took them awhile to implement the non-duplicate feature for legendary cards.
We are going on a family vacation. Does anyone know of any board games for iOS that have a local multiplayer mode over Bluetooth? We wonât have internet for some of our devices. I know Ticket to Ride does it but Iâm not sure what else.
Really nice indie game that I am having a lot of fun with. Download the Demo, as this game will appeal to a bunch of you. Slice and Dice
So⌠any decent final fantasy tactics type games on IPad? I am going on a holiday and a plane trip and thinking I should play something.
I mean, I could dust off ffx-2 remaster on switchâŚ. But who wants to play games they already own and never finished?
Well, there is actually Final Fantasy TacticsâŚ
Also, you can look at Disgaea. Banner Saga is decent but theyâve only ported 2 of the 3 games in the series. Ticket to Earth is a little lighter on the character building but has some interesting movement mechanics based on tile color.
On the more strategic front you have games like XCOM 1/2 or Templar Battleforce Elite.
Battle for Wesnoth is a thing that is well regarded but I have yet to dive into.
FFT is still the best.
@Mirefox 's list is pretty comprehensive as far as ipad goes. I actually found Banner Saga to be really goodâengrossing story, interesting characters, a few decision points that actually matter, and solid graphics. I think the combat is the one aspect that is only âdecentâ, as some battles require strategy, and others really do not. The between-battle shopping and upgrades are often limited as well, which I found sort of challenging rather than frustrating. I really enjoyed it overall. Itâs not FFT, but what is? : )
Iâve played Wesnoth too (years and years ago), and itâs ok. It feels dated, the story is on rails, very little effort at character development, and the battles are very hit or miss. Some are interesting, others require one specific way of planning. I donât think itâs worth a purchase unless itâs on sale.
If you decide to take your Switch instead, youâll have a lot more options : )
Yeah, I might have to take the switch with me.
Anyone have experience with Triangke Strategy?
Otherwise I will stick with my backlog and maybe do another round of fire emblem
Tangentially related, does anyone have experience of XCOM 2 on an iPhone? My iPad is sadly a generation or two too old, but my phone is supported. Is it unpleasantly tiny on a small screen?
If you want to have a FFT-esque experience on Switch might I suggestâŚ
Mercenary Saga Chronicles It is a collection of 3 games that were initially Japanese phone games ported to the 3DS ported to the Switch.
They arenât high-budget Tripple A effort but niceâŚcomfort food-SRPGs? So they wonât blow you away but for the price, I never did expect that. Also, they seem to find their nicheâŚthere are 6 Mercenary Saga games out on Switch now. The newer ones are more fleshed out but also more expensiveâŚfor the most bang for your buck go with the Chronicles Release which includes the first 3 games.
Want a more old-school Fire Emblem Experience? Go withâŚ
Port of a recent PC game, decent old-school Fire Emblem feel, a bit unoptimized (long loading times but this seems normal on switch (my PS5 is slowly corrupting me))
Not enough Advance Wars in your life? Need more Skeletons and Magic? WellâŚ
Port of a PC game, decent to stellar production values. Includes a UI zoom option on the Switch which is always greatly appreciated (old guy with deteriorating eyesight also small UI subtitles were always a problem for me even in my prime)
[monotone voice] Well there is also Into the Breach I guess?
Iâve played it on my iPhone 12, and while certainly not ideal and preferable on the 12.9 iPad Pro, the phone handles the game well without obvious stutters or difficulties. It can be difficult to see things at time but Iâve noticed that turning up the brightness or zooming in when necessary helps.
If itâs your only platform for the game, I wouldnât hesitate to recommend it.
I completely endorse @Private_Prinny 's response. All of the Mercenary Chronicles games are good, and they get slightly better with each new release, IMO. Itâs like FFT Lite. In all the best ways.
I completed HadesâŚfor the first time! And with the Gloves no lessâŚseems the Rngoddes was bored today.
Finally, I have beaten the first Switch Game I boughtâŚ
Would it be that it had a measurable impact on my backlog, well⌠it didnât
Speaking of ItB, saw the wonderful news. Five new squads and a difficulty level that is literally Unfair! I both love this and fear it, as I didnât really need another reason to get sucked back in after finally doing 30k for all squads outside of Secret and doing original pilots and equipment only runs with randomized bots.
