What are you playing?

Finished Disgaea 2 (for the third time) the day before yesterday, finished Battletech today, 2 done with only 45.273 more to go…

Well now some hard decisions to make, will I finally play Disgaea 3 (4,5,6) for the first time? Hmm, maybe not right now. After finishing La Pucelle Tactics, Disgaea 1, Disgaea D2, and now Disgaea 2 over the course of the pandemic I can feel a bit of franchise fatigue settling in. Should I play Fire Emblem Three houses next? What? Some obscure gimmick needs online functionality? Well later then, I plan on doing a family subscription together with my Brother when his current Nintendo Online subscription expires. I can wait for that. Final Fantasy Tactics? Nope, there are (more realistic this time around) rumors of an FFT Remaster so it can wait a bit…

In other news I really enjoyed Battletech. Granted it was a bit too much cookie-cutter in its approach but since it is a (rather) successful Kickstarter project I cannot complain much. I really hope they (HBS) get back to the IP this time with a bit more faith in their vision and with some more bells and whistles added to it. And me being the Tripple-ultra-hardcore-Battletech-lore Nerd that I am - I am still thinking their Intro cinematic is freaking amazing! I love that art style & music!

And what to do with my backlog? Oh well, back to Ghost of Tsushima I guess…

Another FFT remaster (they did it once for the PSP)? Be still my heart… Though only if it’s for the Switch.

FWIW, you do not need any kind of Nintendo Online anything to thoroughly enjoy Three Houses. And it should be at the top of your list if you have not yet played it.

Was La Pucelle Tactics ever ported to the PSP in English? For some reason, I’ve had it in my head all these years that it only ported in Japanese.

Correct! La Pucelle Tactics Ragnarok is the re-release of La Pucalle on PSP.
Nippon Ichi did the re-release thing with their PS2 games Disgaea 1 and 2, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and La Pucelle on the PSP.
All of them were upgraded with enhancements (all DLC included and some extra story chapters and other stuff).

The same thing was done with Disgaea 3 and 4 for the PSVITA.

However, the La Pucelle Ragnarok and Makai Kingdom PSP games were never officially released in the west but got a complete fan translation for PSP. However, the "Prinny Presents: NIS Classics version of Makai Kingdom they released this year has the complete package of the PSP, So my hope is that when (if) they release another “Prinny presents Classic Vol 3” they include the La Pucelle Ragnarok version as well.

I hope they do it. I wasn’t a fan of the PSP and Mobile version of FFT due to strange technical blunders due to the porting process. My hope is that they do a “RIGHT” port on the Switch.

I find the mobile version of FFT sort of unplayable for some reason. I think the touch screen doesn’t work with the way my brain wants to interface with the game. I liked the PSP version a lot, though. But to be able to play a “right” port on my TV via Switch would be fabulous. I would probably forget who my family was for a week, but you know, they’d forgive me : )

Exactly, FFT was released on the tail end of my mobile gaming craze on iOS and I was initially happy but as always*cough OFTEN the mobile controls of games ported to iOS ruined it for me…well, that and the non-support by Square Enix. Some iOS/updates broke the game so you cannot save the game mid-mission anymore. Basically, the mobile version now has even FEWER features as the PSP version does. Pathetic Square Enix!

That’s the reason I planned on playing it on PSP but since the rumors keep happening I postpone it for a possible switch release. Playing it on the big screen with a controller would be great.
I was an idiot and didn’t buy a Playstation VITA TV back then when it was new so I could have played FFT via the “vita” on the big screen but no way in hell I will buy that thing now used.

Has anyone jumped on Gaia Project?

Yes. Enjoying it so far. Just make sure you watch a YouTube tutorial, because the in game tutorial is not very helpful.

Typical Digidiced tutorial?

What about presentation? Is it another utilitarian adaptation like Terra Mystica was or is it annoy more flashy like the made Castles of Burgundy?

Indeed typical digidiced tutorial. I have watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB7De5BefpE instead.
Presentation is TM style, not flashy, but does its work.

Because I’m too lazy to read much more than I already have: is Gaia Project basically Terra Mystica in space?

Yeah, it’s like terra Mystica 2.0.

It’s a better game but I like the wood pieces in TM better than the plastic in GP, though that doesn’t matter with an app. I think its pretty safe to say that if you like Terra Mystica you should like Gaia Project but if you aren’t a fan of Terra Mystica I don’t think any of the improvement in Gaia Project are going to change your mind.

Thanks for the feedback. I like Terra Mystica ok, but repeated plays in the app weren’t nearly enough for me to understand it, so I won’t waste the money on Gaia Project … until it shows up in next year’s Decathlon, and I spend $10 for the privilege of getting my teeth kicked in.

I find GP better to understand than TM, so you might reconsider your hesitation to buy the game :grinning:

I slightly disagree here. I’ve been bewildered at the affectionate reception TM has gotten, but I quite liked GP. Sometimes you simply need the mechanics in a new skin.

Hey, to each his own and I can’t argue subjectivity, but objectively the games are very similar.

Terra Mystica is an odd one for me because I bought the app having not played the game and really disliked it. But I was also looking for a new euro game to play with my cousins and something about the giant box crammed full of wooden bits was very appealing so I actually bought the tabletop game when I found it on clearance at a closing game store. It wasn’t until playing it in the table that it clicked and now I quite enjoy the app. I like Gaia Project, maybe even more because of the progress track, or whatever it is called, and I plan on buying the app. The tabletop game is just too similar, though, when there are so many other games I want.

Appreciate the conflicting opinions, too … definitely something to think about. I’ll probably hold off a little longer. I have the physical version of TM, so maybe I’ll get that to the table over the holidays and see if my experience is similar to @Mirefox, where it clicked after playing in person.

Fall Steam Sale Pickup Report: I have been limiting myself the last few Steam Sales to 1-3 games. Only 1 this time, and it is called Ratropolis, and I already have like 15 hours played this week, and that was while traveling for Thanksgiving.

It’s a really neat hybrid Deck Builder / Base Building / Tower Defense game with a bunch of replayability so far. There are lots of things to unlock (like Slay the Spire) and and a lot of diversity in the builds so far. Strong recommendation from me.

Ratropolis is also available on iOS and Android for those mobile gamers.
Have got round to playing it myself, but it’s bought and on the list (with many others as per usual)
