That last one…oh dear…
Lol, that last one instantly made me think of the Top Gear trio and all the times they’ve done the gag where the livery on the car says something funny when the door is opened.
Ah, such a wonderful thread. I have a few knives and flashlights to share later, but I haven’t had my coffee yet. It’s early yet in the Former Colonies.
Oo flashlights, I didn’t even consider that rabbit hole!
Just picked up the Surefire XSC for my new off duty Springfield Hellcat, nice little light and the rechargeable battery is a nice touch, although not my favorite. I prefer being able to replace batteries on the fly, environmental concerns be damned. Strangely, the light comes with a double charger for the battery, but replacement batteries aren’t yet available for purchase… Only 350 lumens iirc but it’s bright enough for an off duty light.
Ok, since we are in flashlights now, as I’ve mentioned before I want some nice flashlights but haven’t really pursued them yet. My family needs an idea for a $30-40 Christmas gift for me. Are there any in that price range that any of you recommend?
Can we go full prepper at the Castle? Because while talking about flashlights, anyone own anything like a solar powered backup generator? I have been thinking about something like this, but it is not cheap.
Shit’s getting crazy across the river there, huh? lol
You should be able to find a Skilhunt or Wurkkos for that price.
When the pandemic started, we started storing dry and canned foods for the first time. Not so much because we wanted to horde, but because we thought it was best to limit going out around other people.
I also realized though that it’s a good backup in case of things like power outages and stuff. Being in South Brooklyn, not too far from the water is that although we are not technically in a flood zone, we are one block from where one starts. So being prepared seems smart?
So food I have. I am actually at the point where some of what we originally stored will come up soon, so we will donate it to a pantry and replace. I am going to have to keep an inventory of exp dates.
But water and power are the other 2 things I have been trying to figure out what I would need. It is really just a “what happens if the power is out for 2 weeks” type thinking.
I appreciate that. Definitely in the market for something similar; I’d ideally like to do a whole house generator, but they’re ridiculously expensive on their own, not to mention the install, permits, gas line from PSE&G, etc.
Food is easy for the most part, but water is difficult to store for any long amount of time without it starting to taste like ass. You’d almost have to have a rotation where you drink the saved water. I do have a few of the MSR water bladders which are good for emergency filling; we’ve used them during hurricanes etc, and they’re good for non-backpack camping where there’s no potable water too.
eta: link to the MSR dromedary bag. They make a bunch of attachments too; you can use it as a shower by hanging it up, straw attachment, etc.
Need to see the music video for that one.
