Here to comfort her in her time of need
I’ve been reading through Jack Carr’s book series (Terminal List, and so on), and foregoing any reviews or critiques of the books, they are gear porn. One item that he has referenced a couple of times is the Dynamis combat flathead. Has anyone ever used one of these, or something similar, that can speak to its usefulness? For my own purposes a good Leatherman is more versatile and useful, but I can’t help but want the flathead.
I’ve never even heard of that thing but I don’t see the usefulness, especially at the price point. I think if I were in a combat zone or post apocalyptic zombie land in full kit all the time I’d find a place and use for it, but in jeans etc it seems hard to conceal, of limited use, difficult to explain to The Man, and expensive as all fuck.
100% on the Leatherman being more useful. And also easier to explain as a tool vs a CoMbAT ScReWdRiVeR.
What’s the use case for that? Like, you stab people with it? I was looking at it and going “That seems cool, but also what on Earth.” How does it get used in the books? Presumably not as a normal screwdriver?
I’d never heard of that thing and would never carry that. It looks heavy too–I can only assume the main character just throws it at things that are charging him? Though honestly, I keep a leatherman in the car and never carry it on my person, just a Kershaw.
He certainly uses it as a weapon once, and one time that I remember to pry a latch. I don’t remember it being used as an actual screwdriver ever.
If I had to use a screwdriver to stab someone, it would be that one.
If I had to get stabby I’m choosing better decision making first, my gun second, and Benchmade third.
Same. I always think I want to carry a leatherman until I carry a leatherman.
I just love this thread - I do have a leatherman that I never carry. But I don’t really carry anything - too many years working in a mine that bans fixed blade knives, sharp edges and anything that you could hurt yourself with.
I should have a knife or something that I carry in the car, for when I hit wildlife that needs finishing….
I keep a pretty simple orange morakniv in both my family cars. Haven’t had to finish an animal yet, but it has come in handy a couple times to cut a flyaway beard hair

Hearted for Zooey
[Continues to go on like that] has been my new years resolution for many years now
