It’s okay, you can say it. I miss a shitload of news. I know it, you know it. I’d like to blame it on the fact that I’m the only one working the Stately Play news beat these days, but it’s more an issue with me just being a lazy bum and focusing only on the stuff I really enjoy. I don’t think I need to tell you that the stuff I enjoy is board games. I’m going to try and be better and cover more than whatever Asmodee is currently up to, trying to write about at least one non-board game every day. Will I stick with it? Mostly. I’m sure I’ll have days where I slip, but it’s going to be better than it has been. Promise. Today’s non-board game is Card City Nights 2 which hit the App Store late last week.
The original Card City Nights came out of nowhere back when Owen was still running the show at PT and it turned into one of those sleepers that take over your gaming life for a few weeks and then disappears. It was a good distraction and for a few bucks you got a solid 15 hours out of it. What more could you ask for? A sequel, of course!
Card City Nights 2 is the sequel we didn’t know we wanted, and it’s on Android, iOS Universal, and Steam. One cool addition that the Stately Players (that’s you guys!) [oh. my. god. I begged him not to do it anymore. -ed.] will like is online multiplayer. Is it asynchronous? Who knows! The first game didn’t have multiplayer at all, so whatever it is, it’s an improvement.
What the hell is Card City Nights 2, though? It’s kind of an adventure game with a card game thrown in for good measure. You’ll explore a sci-fi city and duel the inhabitants with a collectible card game that isn’t really collectible. That is, there is no IAP in the game at all with the cards being unlocked by just playing along. Played cards remain on the board, allowing you to chain combos with cards currently in play and setting off SUPER POWERS. Or something. Honestly, I haven’t played it, but I know that the first one was worth picking up and considering this one is bigger and better and only $5 with no IAP, why not give it a try?
With a renewed gameplay system, an all new adventure and online multiplayer, Card City Nights 2 improves on its predecessor in every way.
- Adventure and Cards, together again!
- Online multiplayer
- 200 unique cards with characters from the Ludosity universe
- Discover increasingly more unlikely locations
- Still no IAP whatsoever
Online multiplayer card game with no IAP? This should be a no-brainer for all the Stately Players out there! [I hate him -ed.] https://youtu.be/i4hQ9veU0To
