The Glass Teat, or 'Television'

Lower Decks is perfect.

Indeed it is!

Damn Paramount…the first 3 Seasons were included in the (German) Amazon Prime Subscription…They figured out how to annoy people with yet another subscription service. So beginning with Season 4 I need to sub for Paramount+

Well screw you! I haven’t bothered for Netflix (Disney, Hulu, HBO or any other 3498753985730987 services neither will I do so for you! But I will DEFINETELY shake my ANGRY fist at you!)

It is time that the sub-fad bubble bursts and some serious market-contraction happens…especially after Amazon Prime already charges an arm and a leg nowadays…

We live near enough to an Amazon warehouse that I get nearly everything I order within a day - even sometimes the same day. That still boggles my mind. I think that Prime is still worth my money for the delivery, which we use for nearly everything other than fresh food these days. I’ve dumped everything else, though, and if I only had Prime for the streaming I’d dump it, too.

Same for us. The delivery makes a difference where we live, and there’s not a lot I find to watch on prime. I really dislike their interface too–I just want to see what’s actually available to me on prime, not things I have to pay extra for or can only see if I sub to one of the many other streamers they shill for. It’s so clear that they’re purposefully muddling their interface for browsing prime to push people towards spending money on non-prime things. All it does for me is make it clear how little there is on prime anymore.

American Horror Story: NYC. The gayest possible season of the show. Or at least, so far. Some great individual performances. Joe Mantello, Denis O’Hare, Russell Tovey are all good. Zachary Quinto still slumming it like mad.

This show lost me all the way back in season 1. It leaned too heavily into the S&M and sexual horror stuff for me; wasn’t was I was going for. I haven’t watched since. Are any of the seasons worth a second chance?

The overall tone of the series hasn’t really changed; S2 was very good, S6 might be worth a try for you, but most seasons always have at least a touch of sexual horror. The writers intermingle the two freely.

White House Plumbers. This is just very funny. The incredibly stupid, farcical escapades of the dirty tricks team Nixon set up.

We are caught up on Yellow Jackets now. This is a show where a team of high school girls soccer team crashes in the Canadian Rockies and they have to survive with a Lost type element to it that is not really clear after two seasons, and the show takes place both in the 90s with the crash and present day and the aftermath of their lives.

My wife LOVES this show. I think it is fine, there is a lot of “stupid” decisions being made by characters in the present day, but I actually think it is in character so ok, but I don’t love the story. I do love Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis though…so I keep watching it.

Side thought: It has been a while since I have seen Juliette Lewis in anything and I realize now she was the “Aubrey Plaza” of the 90s.

So, I have newfound respect for Brazilians.

Check out “stranded with your mother in law” on Netflix. You will not be disappointed.

Silo: Just adding to this thought, I am done with the first book (as audiobook), after seeing season 1 that is. I loved the series, and I do not regret that I read the book afterwards. The first Season finishes about halfway through the first book, so you can expect something like 6 seasons for all three books, more or less. The TV adaptation deverts quite a bit from the original, so the book still was quite fresh to me. I think the narrative in the book is better than in the series. I will start with book 2 in a few days.

Invasion: I watched till the 9th episode, but it did not grab me, so I stopped. It’s not bad, but it was just not for me. Is it worth it to hold on, because it gets better in the second season?

Severance: awesome. Just finished season 1… it’s a different feeling than when I say Silo is great. Severance has something unsettling, uneasy, heavy about it. It’s not an easy watch , but still not to be missed. Hope they don’t mess up season 2 and round up the story there. I hate it when series go on forever (I look at you walking dead).

Contemplating on what to watch next… Foundation? Peripheral? Any advice?

Foundation was fine, but seemed more like a chore to get through than it should have been. I haven’t started season 2 yet.

My strongest recommendation is For All Mankind. There’s just enough time to binge seasons 1-3 before season 4 starts on Nov 10. It’s got some pacing issues, but it is so much fun!

Mythic Quest is also worth a watch, especially for gamers. Can be a little uneven and cringey at times. The stand alone episodes are masterpieces.

Peripheral.

I was going to try this, but then heard season 2 was cancelled, so I never bothered.

@Blackfyre if you are just looking for Apple+ - I really like The Morning Show, we are working on season 3 now. I really did not expect to like it, but I do.

I liked Foundation Season 1 also, and will start Season 2 after we finish The Morning Show I think.

Ted Lasso is great if you have not seen it.

Also, we liked The Crowded Room. It has some flaws, but Tom Holland is great.

I struggled getting in to Foundation. Haven’t tried season 2 yet.

Sticking with Apple, my recommendation is Slow Horses.

Rick & Morty S7. No complaints.

Peripheral was fantastic, but I also have to echo FAMk if you haven’t seen it.

Thanks guys!

After reading the recommendations, I am still undecided between For All Mankind and Peripheral… I will start with either one the next days I think.
Crowded House looks amazing!
Slow Horses sounds good as well honestly.
After those I think I’ll try Mythic Quest…

I decided to wait on Foundation, I started with the first Episode but, like stated above, it felt like a lot of work…especially as I am not familiar with the source material. Maybe when I’m through with the above.

Ted Lasso is great, I watched season 1, but never got started to watch the following seasons. Keeping it for bad days I suppose

Morning show does not sound like me, but based on your recommendations, maybe I’ll give it a try, maybe with the Mrs

A lot to watch … Great!
