Shining Girls and Invasion as well. You can find my pithy reviews of all these good serieseseses earlier in the thread.
Ah, forgot Invasion. I felt like it lost track of itself at the end?
Just saw this for those that donāt have a subscription - two months free -
F Murray Abraham is also on the new season of The White Lotus. Only one episode in, but it seems like his character will give him something to work with.
Oh, I forgot Invasion was on my list of things I should watch. I think I might start that after I finish Pennyworth (which is HBO, and very good so far in season 1).
Excellent! Thanks so much, Jon : )
Iāve been considering trying this, so Iām glad to know itās worth it. Does it readily compare to any other show?
Also, Severance is totally one of the shows I want to try on appleābut The Morning Show? Thatās a surprise to meāitās a show I would otherwise have on my Shows to Assiduously Avoid or Delete (SAAD) list.
Iāll second The Morning Show, great actors. Annoying at points but Steve Carrell and Jennifer Aniston are aces in it. Definitely worth the watch
Hmm, didnāt realize there was so much worth watching on Appleāwife and I watched all the Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest we could, then unsubscribed until at least one of them comes back ⦠which I know will be Mythic Quest S3 next week. Iāll still probably wait for all the episodes to air so we can just binge them later.
Just started S1 of White Lotus on HBO Max the other day. Not 100% sure what I think of it yet.
I enjoyed White Lotus, although it was a bit weird in parts for sure.
Just finished S2 of Industry, on HBO. Love every minute of it, even the financial shit I have to Google.
Industry.
Why I Didnāt Work In London. Cut-throat misery as graduates try to stab their way into a finance job. Fond memories of watching a friend do the same thing and stress his way to a heart attack at the ripe age of 29. Really effective depiction of what itās like to be the new fish in a pressured environment.
Andorās introduction of fascist Alan Partridge was good.
I am enjoying this series, but much like the films, itās not really sci-fi is it. Itās a lot of WWII tropes with a fantasy skin, set in space. Itās getting to me, even though Andor is easily the best of the seriesā so far.
My wife and I are warning Severance and we are quite enjoying it but it very much makes me want to go play Bioshock, which I donāt have the time forā¦
Severance is such an awesome show! Between that and Ted Lasso, it makes Apple TV worth it.
Twilight Zone.
The first episode did not impress, Death Note by way of stand-up. Would have been better if the stand-up material had been actually funny, which was a bizarre oddity in an episode all about a stand-up comedian.
And the second episode is about the horrors of having to listen to a podcast on an aeroplane.
Got to say, this series is not gripping me.
We were lured into trying the PBS Masterpiece subscription on Amazon Prime video by the promise of a new season of Endeavor, one of our favorites. The surprise which made us keep it for a month was Royal Flying Doctor Service. Itās only one season of 8 episodes, and the proportion of cool doctor emergencies to interpersonal shenanigans was lower than ideal, but it was charming and better-written than I expected. According to my wife, the medicine was pretty good.
I also managed to get my kids to watch over five minutes of Wolf Hall, a show I concede to be boring but am watching for a second time anyway because my wifeās at a conference and it has Mark Rylance.
Royal Flying Doctor Service sounds like an anime-style video game about fairy healers.
Edit: Which I would play, obviously.
The horror of a date going wrong and having to settle for an angry wank. Twilight Zone really not doing well so far.
The White Lotus.
This is well-written enough to be a drama, but has a lot of beautiful deadpan comedy. The cast is an amazing group, Steve Zahn, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, in fact virtually all of them are outstanding. The casting is perfect.
The Outlaws, on Amazon Prime. 2 seasons.
Set in England, a bunch of disparate people are sentenced to community service repairing a derelict building. Chaos ensues when an incident occurs with a large sum of money.
Amongst the people is Christopher Walken being prime Christopher Walken. Shouldāve lead with that because really, what else needs to be said.
I actually really enjoyed Wednesday (just finished it). Had some silly and questionable moments, but Ortega knocked the role out of the park.
Of all things Iāve been watching some WWE lately and have been enjoying it more than I should. Iām always looking for things to bond over with my son because he is not as like me as I had assumed heād be and we do not share many interests. Watching the bad acting, ridiculous stories, and whiffed punches has been entertaining.
