I thought Continuum got better each season, and while season 4 was short, it was a worthwhile ending that I recommend. Season 3 was kind of wild and fun.
I think we left off on Travelers around mid-Season 2. Had every intention of going back, but we got distracted. Is that worth finishing?
2 seasons, and fingers crossed it stays that way, as the ending was perfect.
A dark humor show consisting of bite size episodes - 21m or so each - about running away and coming home again to deal with the consequences. By the same teams that did Stranger Things and Iâm Not OK With This.
If you in any way enjoyed those shows, this comes highly recommended. I hearted everything about it.
Nor was I, and I was concerned about how well theyâd do it, but it was just as good as the first season and the ending may be amongst the best Iâve seen.
I agree with @kennfusion on thisâthe third season was totally wild and the best, IMO, and the fourth and shorter season was a very strong wrap-up for the series.
The show got better as it went on, to be sure. Some of this was the writing got better and more daring, and some of this was that the actors seemed to get better too. Lots of great twists.
Have you watched the netflix show âDarkâ? It is absolutely your kind of show and one of the best series Iâve seen in the last decade or more. Donât read anything about it, which might ruin it. Just trust me and go watch the thing. Itâs 2 seasons with a third in the works. Stellar. You might also like âThe O/Aâ which I loved, but it played directly into some personal beliefs I have about reality, so I was biased.
âThe Magicians
âThe Order (which feels lite at first but gets a lot better)
âStar Trek: Deep Space Nine (perhaps the only Trek youâd really like; you can skip a lot of the first season) (actually, youâd like the last season of Enterprise too)
âHouse (a medical show, but so fantastical as to easily be regarded as scifi)
âOrphan Black (Iâd be shocked if you hadnât already seen this)
âThe 100 (this one is iffy; I stuck it out for the first couple seasons and then gave up; soo much angst)
âThe Expanse (youâve seen this, Iâd bet)
âAlias
âNikita (this show is awful, but it might be watchable for you too)
âRiverdale (seriouslyâthis is a fantastic show, especially season 1)
âLegend of the Seeker (terrible acting, terrible dialogue, terrible special effects, but sort of charming)
âBabylon 5 (terrible acting, terrible dialogue, terrible special effects, but excellent long-arc plotting and interesting concepts)
This is random, but maybe something in there will be new to you.
Why is adapting an epic fantasy so difficult? Legend of the Seeker was trash, the Shannara series was even worseâŚIâm worried for the Wheel of Time series that is in production.
A lot of the production studios try to do fantasy on too small of a budget. They know they need to budget for special effects and period costumes (non genre shows usually donât need this), and so they cut corners on a lot of other things (like hiring good actors). And a lot of fantasy adaptations also seem unwilling to stray very far from the source material, which is often weak in certain areas to begin with.
Game of Thrones was the exception, and hopefully more fantasy shows will follow its big-budget lead. I feel the same trepidation about the upcoming Dune that you feel about Wheel.
Dune at least has a Hollywood budget and Villeneuve behind it. Iâm also cautiously optimistic for Amazonâs LotR series, though Iâm also a little worried that it will play fast and loose with the source material.
Seeing the word fantasy in here prompts me to the Dark Crystal on Netflix. Both the movie and the series. Both are absolutely captivating even some 38 years on in the case of the original film. Highly recommend, and good for kids too.
2 and a half seasons (final season is only 6 episodes) set in the ânear futureâ revolving around a Russian silk glove invasion of Norway with the EUâs blessing and the political and social upheaval that follow. This show is fantastic. Does a great job of presenting things from a political standpoint as well as showing how regular people would react - those that become partisans vs those that embrace the new normal. Great acting, great settings, and truly believable aside from some hokey âhackingâ scenes that occur once in a blue. Not enough to derail the show at all.
Caveat emptor, subtitles are a must. Probably about 40% English, 40% Norwegian, 15% Russian, and some French mixed in as well.
Christina Applegate is recently widowed and Linda Cardellini becomes her best friend; no further information for fear of revealing plot twists, which are awesome. Dark humor at its darkest and most humorous. Two seasons so far with hope for a third.
Snowpiercer. How do you make a story about a train on an endless trip through the post-apocalypse boring? Make it have a slow subplot about solving a murder. Doesnât even respect your time enough to get properly going for several episodes.
I hated the film. Part of that may have stemmed from the fact that it seemed to get rave reviews and was supposed to be an instant classic sci-fi epic. I thought it was stupid, ham-fisted tripe.
It was okay. Interesting but not good, if that makes sense. Personally, I would say if you want small-time sci-fi with Chris Evans youâre better off with Sunshine. A fun mix of 2001 and Alien thatâs probably more entertaining than both, if not as original.
