The House of Biffpow supports any excuse for you to buy a laser.
I do think assembly is the way to go. Easier cuts and likely not that time-consuming to assemble.

Anyone played Bargain Quest? Right now my daughter loves Zooloretto, but her favorite part is when people buy animals from her in her stable. She thinks money is the best part of the game, so I was thinking she might really like Bargain Quest.
Today I tried to break out of my blogging funk (two posts in a month, I think?) by going through the BGG Top 100 and seeing which ones I’ve played, which ones I want to play, and which ones I have no interest in.
#100-91 can be found here. Let me know what you think!
I’m looking for ideas. I thought it might be fun to see if I could get a board game going over Zoom with two of my distant friends. But I don’t know what game. There are some elements that are probably precluded from such a setup, like a common draw pile of cards. I think it might be easiest to run a game that we all have a copy of, but I suppose if there are no player boards/hands/tableaus/whatever we could probably make do with a single copy and the others dictating the board state to the owner of the physical copy. Any ideas or suggestions to get this idea rolling for me?
Alternatively, I know there are some online board game services like Board Game Arena; do any of those have any integrated video chat? I doubt it but I’m definitely looking for the social aspect of this, or else we’d just keep playing our apps.
BGA does offer integrated video and voice chat but it does not seem to be a much used feature. The initiator has to be a premium member and apparently the video replaces the player avatar (so a very small image). My group hasn’t tried it because we had already started by running Zoom, or other group video call services, alongside our games and some of us find it convenient to have the video call on a different device to the “BGA device”.
We had started with games of Terraforming Mars (everyone has the app on iOS or Steam) but now we mostly play at BGA and chat and catch up as we play. We have avoided playing “brain burners” as half the purpose is social and we have stuck to games that we all know. Outside of our sessions we also play async games at BGA (right now Clans Of Caledonia) so that we can learn them well enough to enjoy them at a future online session.
Week 2 of the my weekly (at least so far) look at the Top 100 at BGG, this time looking at #90-81.

Nice write up!
I feel the same about Pandemic, I liked the legacy games with my friends, but otherwise I have no interest in playing it. Just feels uncomfortable all the time.
I find the bgg top 100 interesting. Played so many games in the top 50, but the next 50 seem to be a “board gamers board game list”. For the elite / neckbeard / snobs of the genre. Or maybe that is just the image presented by the comments list on BGG.
Thank you!
Yeah, I can see how you would think that, but for me it’s just a variety of games in general. Some light stuff, some heavier.
I haven’t written next week’s yet but I have listed all the games (I find posting easier if I get all of the “administrative stuff” like doing the list, linking the game companies, etc ahead of time) and I’ve actually played a fair number of them.
I haven’t done any legacy games because I don’t have a dedicated group for it. Maybe I should buy Pandemic Legacy now to play with the wife.
I don’t think that would go over well, though.
I’m looking for some suggestions for some roll and write games.
A couple times a year my wife and I go across the country and stay a week or so at her parents’ farm. While my wife is up for most games, we’ve found that we enjoy traveling with some simpler roll and write games. I’m not entirely sure why; it could be the ease of learning, the simplicity of setup, the ability to add more people - I’m not sure why it has become our farm living genre of choice.
Anyways, we’ve played a lot of Qwixx, Bloom, Rolling America, and Yahtzee.
I’m looking for recommendations, if any of you have played some good ones.
Thanks!
Ganz Schon Clever is fantastic
I liked “Welcome to…”
This week’s look at the BGG Top 100 games and what I have played and want to. Here is #80-71!
With a good-natured tease of our illustrious Stately Play leader included.
Terraforming Mars has a big box coming, which is just that - a box box to hold everything. Also included are 3D tiles for the game. Sound completely unnecessary and something I must have…
$29 shipping to Aussie, but then $75 shipping to NZ. Wtf. Way to piss my cornflakes there stronghold games
I am very tempted to drop a lot of money on the TFM big box Kickstarter set thing.
I have no cardboard versions at the moment, so I would probably buy all the things.
Thoughts?
It’s definitely a great game and I love all of the expansions (Venus Next isn’t the most necessary but it provides some good stuff in it).
If two people in my game group didn’t already own it, I might have been tempted.
