more than only some.
all my attempts to play async games with random strangers failed miserably.
a) opponents left the games sooner or later, or at once when realizing that it’s no real-time session, played in one or two hours.
b) A.I. bots took over and played on, but always crashed the game after some turns. i could never finish one of these games. frustrating!
Does anyone want to test an asynch game with me? I’d like to buy this for some buddies just to take a break from the endless TTA, but I’d like to know it will work first. My only caveat is that if asynchronous becomes more of a chore than not, I’ll, with your permission, concede and end it because I get really frustrated with borked asynch.
I’ll join a test game, as I’ve yet to play it async.
Sounds great…except right off the bat I encountered an issue - I can’t find a friends list, so I can’t add you, and I therefore can’t sent you a private game. What am I missing?
Logging in (because it had forgotten me …) and Online/Create a Private Game/Add brings up a friends list for me.
Edit: went to send you an invite and because this is an Asmodee crock o’shite ™ we both need to be on-line.
I don’t have you in my friends list for some reason and I don’t see a way to add. I’ll jump on now, though.
So, it’s created the game and is showing as waiting for you. fingers crossed
agreed on Asmodee, but in this case no need to be on-line at the same time.
I got the invite. I’ve got to school the kids and make some lunch but I’ll take my turn in a bit. I’m pretty good at staying on top of games as long as they are good at giving me notifications, so hopefully this runs nice and smooth.
Butting in … hopefully not too irritating …
I think the key to a happy async game of Terraforming Mars is personally notifying the next player when it is their turn (using DM here or some other method). Essential during a new generation and at the start when buying cards (because it seems you can do it out of turn but you actually cannot).
The other top tip of yore … remember that only the player(s) online when the final score is revealed get to see it. Obv that is usually just the last player,
One final tip.
I think you have to be Asmodee Buddies to show up on a friends list, and you can only do that on their web site, if I recall correctly.
We use the SP discord for Civ notifications and it works pretty well - I’m sure you guys could make a TM channel too
Or you can add a friend in Ascension (if easier than going to the Asmodee website) and that gets populated to Asmodee and thus to TfM.
Crap thing about the TfM app … it does not filter your friends based on who has the app … so I get a very long list full of all the random people I have played in Ascension tournaments and not deleted and have to scroll through and hunt for those who can actually play TfM. Just a minor irritation really … but … gah!
I’m going to start a game with @whovian223 to see if Asmodee has actually made improvements. Anyone else want in?
I’d play
Can do.
Well, as per usual Asmodee half-assedness, I couldn’t add any of you as friends in the app so I had to log into my asmodee account on the web to do it. I assume I added the right people, so look for an invite from Mirefox.
Accepted, but 15 days might be cutting it close.
How does the timer work? 15 days per player isn’t long enough? I can remake if needed.
I’ve always made mine 45. Just to be safe.
