Red Planet Blues: a Terraforming Mars tournament

@js619 @Caradog

The first of our games has finally disappeared from the server, so let’s pray the second runs to conclusion without problems.

I forfeited it - it started sending me notifications and unresolved red bubbles make me nuts

Ah - that’s why it’s come back to life and is asking me to take my turn! Forfeited it as well now

@Zebracadabra it’s your turn

Our game is finally about to end. It’s been quite an experience. From Gen 4 on, it’s been at best, a struggle. I wouldn’t be surprised if both @js619 and @Caradog out score me by 40+ points. As always, gg all and ‘Grats to the winner.

@Zebracadabra plant conversion. @Caradog you’re last so please don’t forget screenshots!

Will do! And thanks @Zebracadabra for ending the game in generation 13, was half-worried we might find the breaking point for the app again :slightly_smiling_face:

63 VPs is unreal, Physics Complex?

Nope. I had the corp that gave +3 credits when you played a card with vp’s, so I concentrated on those. Had some actions that allowed me to draw extra cards, so I was able to really get my VP cards going. Also had two animal cards and predators, which helped the engine along.

Another good performance with Vitor, curious to see how far they’ve moved up the table after this round of games.

Thank you. Standings and the vote for the fourth and final map to follow.

Also impressive in an impressive game is @Caradog’s 30 city VPs which I think is a record this tournament.

And an update on the corps. Tharsis still a popular and safe choice, but Ecoline remains the most successful per game. Vitor is doing surprisingly well. Phobolog had a shocking round with 3 points from 3 games but is still outclassed for unsuccessfulness by Inventrix.

For the fourth and final round, we will use the most popular map.

This will be a manually administered instant run-off vote. Pick the option corresponding to your first and second favourites. Second preferences from the least-popular map will be distributed to other two maps to decide a winner.

As a reminder, here is Tharsis,

Elysium,

and Hellas.

I think I have only played one map, the default one. So any is good for me.

Elysium gang, rise up!

Regarding the corps:

I think UNMI is suffering because the more players you have, the harder it is to shorten the game. In 2P it’s not so bad, but at 4-5 you really struggle to carry out your basic strategy of ‘get all the terraforming done before the other players gets an engine going’.

Valley Trust it’s just what Prelude you get, the science discount is nice, but there aren’t many science tags in the first place.

Teractor strong money position but no engine to start with, Earth tags totally draw reliant.

Interplanetary Ceramics (as my friends call it): if you don’t get building tags you’re fucked,

Credicor I’m surprised they’re not higher, you can save a massive amount of money on cards/standard projects.

Rob Ind, I feel should be lower, I don’t like the way you have to spread your effort.

Phobolog, my big gambly boy. With enough space and titanium you can do anything.

Cheung Shing is just a less-good Mining Guild.

Helion are surprisingly good at singling out the temp track, maxing it, and moving on. I really rate them.

Vitor is growing in my estimation; the award is a gamble, but the MC from VP is very strong.

Ecoline is usually top or second, people are obviously letting others steal from their greeneries too much.

Mining Guild, the choice of players who enjoy dry white toast.

Tharsis, city shitters, no respect.

If you go by points/game (ignore the corps with < 3 games), Ecoline is handsomely winning, Credicor is second, Tharsis and Cheung Sing are third, which is in line with your expectations.

Phobolog is still my favourite corp. A reasonably friendly card distribution and you can basically ignore the surface of Mars for the first 2/3 of the game, before swooping in with all your space money.

Remarkably little love for Hellas. Looks like we may get a first round winner after all. 5 more votes and we’ll be good to go, or I’ll close the vote on Thursday.
