Yesterday morning I got into a minivan with my family, drove for several hours, and am now trapped in the northern woods of Wisconsin with three unappreciative and sunburnt children. Yay, vacation! Luckily, I found a weak wi-fi signal to log in because today is the day Nomad Games dropped they long awaited gamebook/top-down RPG, Fighting Fantasy Legends. Yes, if you’ve always really wanted to play through the classic gamebook, Warlock of Firetop Mountain, with fancy graphics you’ve been able to do so for quite awhile. Now, you can do it in another app! Just kidding. FFL doesn’t replicate the genius of Tin Man, instead Fighting Fantasy Legends is, to quote John Cleese, something completely different.

Fighting Fantasy Legends mixes the stories of three famous gamebooks–Citadel of Chaos, City of Thieves, and Warlock of Firetop Mountain–into one mega-story. The cool thing about Fighting Fantasy Legends is that the gamebooks are played out as solo RPGs with the CPU acting as GM. New rooms are described with text that could be taken right from a Gygaxian module circa 1982, and the entire thing has a beautiful top-down look to it that will instantly remind you of Warhammer Quest.

They’re positing FFL not as just another gamebook, but as a fully-fledged RPG that uses the classic books as a backdrop. Thus, if you’re one of those who have memorized these titles from previous delves into the dead-tree or digital versions, you’re still going to find surprises left and right.

Fighting Fantasy Legends is currently available for iOS Universal, Android, PC, and Mac. Links and trailer below:

First impressions, @Neumannium? Worth the price of admission? I’ve got a week at the beach incoming with my spawn, and could use a worthy distraction.

No idea, yet. I’m up camping this weekend and haven’t had the chance to download it yet. :frowning:

Going to try to download Sunday and get a review up by midweek.

I’m at the beach with my spawn but would rather be camping so I feels like I fit right in with this conversation.

Oh me too! Me too! I camped last week with a friend’s spawn.

But really though, this looks interesting.

If just starting out, should I play Warlock at Firetop Mountain first, or is FFL sufficiently different enough of a remix/reimagining?
