Thanks for starting thatā€”Iā€™ve been tied up with work and kidsā€™ sports the last couple of days and havenā€™t been online much.

Good luck to both of you!

No worries! Doesnā€™t matter who starts the game, as far as I know, so I figured I would just go ahead.

Happy gaming! (and working and kidsā€™ sporting and ā€œadultingā€ā€¦ )

Which tie break did you win on?

18-14 on Private Objectives

(Yet another argument to favour that over almost every other way to score!)

I donā€™t even think thereā€™s an argument. If you can get yourself a board full of 5s and 6s in your color itā€™s all over.

I like Sagrada but thatā€™s the one issue I have with it. I donā€™t know if the expansion changes things at all but with the vanilla set Iā€™ve had some games where I barely look at the goals since I am heavily loaded up with my color. I also think there should be a bigger penalty for open spaces. But I am also not a game designer so maybe my ideas are terrible.

So thatā€™s the catch - I got pretty much every red die I could but the values werenā€™t great and there werenā€™t many red dice. The final round had 5 red dice and of course by then I could only fit one. (I was able to turn it into a 6 though!)

OK, so that was fast. And now @Codington is tied for the most KotH wins with none other than our next challengerā€¦ @Hardco!

So what will the next game be, please chose a game from Codingtonā€™s list:

LeHarve
Puerto Rico
Isle of Skye
Viticulture
Sagrada
Wingspan
Concordia

Not much to my taste there beyond PR and Wingspan (Sagrada would probably be #3), and since I lost the last game of PR, letā€™s go back to Wingspanā€¦

Iā€™m surprised youā€™re not a fan of Viticulture or Concordia. (I get that Le Havre is an acquired taste!)

Wingspan will be timely practice for the Decathlon though - @kennfusion who is our third player?

The power imbalance of the cards turned my off of Viticulture in my first couple plays. Not just that some were significantly better than others, but that the better cards were significantly better than non-card actions on the board. Maybe I didnā€™t give it a fair shot though.

Concordia Iā€™ve never played the physical game, and with only a couple plays of the app I never really wrapped my head around it.

I should like Le Havre (being a pretty big Uwe fan), but I struggle tracking all the different buildings in all the different locations. I havenā€™t played the physical game in 10 years or so as well.

When we do get Wingspan going, I am open to the idea of playing with the European expansion, despite having no idea what is in it.

Wingspan is the most popular game in our league, being on 66% of our players list.

While it has never officially been declared a rule, I have always assumed that if you have a game on your list, you have all expansions for it (although that could be a lot for the 2 Ascension players).

Challenger does get to pick the expansions though. And it sounds like you are going to try it out live.

Your third will be @JMH.75

Please let me know when you have started.

Also, @Caradog and @geigerm this is the time when you may change/add/remove any games on your list if you so chose.

Could you add Castles of Burgundy to my list please? Thanks!

Viticulture definitely took a few plays for me to wrap my head around, and I tend to be more focused on theme and replayability than balance when I evaluate a game, but I know at least one person in my regular online gaming connections who ranks it as their favourite game. Plus Iā€™m a sucker for worker placement games. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Concordia is great - I have only played the app but again something about theme as well as the strategy required around choosing your role/card and when to play it based on the game state resonates with me. There are some similarities to Puerto Rico in the sense of your choice of role can benefit the other players and the decisions around whether to sell your goods for money or trade them to acquire cards.

Happy to play either of those with anyone who wants to try them out!
